Surrounded by lush mountains, Linz is on the Danube River, and although known for industry, has become a vibrant cultural hub. It was an important centre of the Holy Roman Empire and Emperor Friedrich III lived in the castle.
The old town centres on Main Square, site of the Christmas market and elaborate Trinity Column. St Martin’s Church is Austria’s oldest, and the largest is the new cathedral, much more elaborate than the old cathedral. On the surrounding streets are shops, restaurants and much of Booking.com’s Linz accommodation, including luxury city centre hotels and cheap guest houses near the train station.
A riverside park contains the Lentos modern art museum, colourfully lit at night. The excellent arts scene also encompasses the Linzer Landestheater, Brucknerhaus concert hall and the Ars Electronica Center which hosts its own festival.
The Design Center Linz event venue is near the industrial powerhouse – the Voestalpine steelworks, whose tour showcases the factory once supervised by Hermann Göring. A more chilling World War II reminder is Mauthausen concentration camp to the south-east.
Across the river are Johannes Kepler University and Pöstlingberg mountain, ascended by a tram that passes the zoo. At the top are a viewing platform, church and the children’s Grotto Railway, and south-west is Linz Blue Danube Airport.

we arrived on Sunday, it was bad for us because nothing was working from the shops, at 2 and 3 in the afternoon there are only a few restaurants where you can eat but really tasty and not so expensive.

Linz is an industrial town but has made a supreme effort to transform into a modern, smart city. It hosts many festivals, including the famous Ars Electronika in September. The tourist information is fine, although check if your festival badge includes free transportation for the duration of your stay. I paid for a Linz card, but I didn't really need it unless you take the Postlingberg tram to the nearby mountain.

I had a beautiful time.
I had a beautiful time. It remains a family favourite destination. In particular, my recently deceased mother loved to visit Linz as a child with her Austrian side of the family. My Hungarian parents met in Australia 65 years ago, were 62 years married, and regularly praised the dog friendly eateries in Linz. My second visit and I share their view. Hope to return. x😇😘+

A very nice city, not as busy as Vienna or Salzburg, but we really liked it here. I recommend visiting the cathedral, it is very beautiful. Other main attractions were also interesting, especially seeing the Ars Electronica Center at night. I also recommend taking the tram to Pöstlingberg, there are nice views of the whole city.
As a restaurant, I recommend the typically Austrian Stiegl-Klosterhof. They cook excellently here and we also had a nice chat with the staff.

Linz is an industrial city, but has a beautiful old and cozy center. You won't find mass tourism, but this city on the Danube is quite interesting with some nice locations, such as the Hauptplatz and the riverside promenade. There is a very nice museum, Lentos, with an interesting collection including Schiele and Kokoschka.
Staff was quite friendly and helpful, rooms were clean and comfortable - maintained regularly as well, and the overall comfort was high. Location was also quite convenient, as we traveled by car and the access to the highway was right next to the hotel, and we used Linz as an HQ of sorts during our trip, so that was a big plus for us. Furthermore, it not being exactly in the center meant the traffic density in the evenings also dropped down, making it generally more comfortable for a family.
We received a room upgrading just for 20 euros for a junior suite on the top with infinitive panorama window. Minibar was inclusive. Price was half we would have paid in Salzburg. We stopped in Linz because it is in the middle of our way to Tirol skiing. Second time we chosed this hotel and we will do so also next time. Parking garage under the hotel. Receptionists are excelent. They didn't want to accept the tip. We left one baggage at the public parking and they called us.
Very comfortable, modernly furnished apartment. The equipment is perfect, we were also treated to sparkling wine and cookies. We successfully resolved a minor misunderstanding regarding the payment of the tourist tax with the help of the extremely kind host Bojana.
Nearby is an inn with typical Austrian home food.
We recommend the accommodation to anyone who wants to see Linz, a very interesting but perhaps overlooked Austrian city.
I would like some form of refund as upon arrival with some friends i was told by reception i had been moved to another hotel meaning i was split up from my friends incurring 12euro x 4 = 48 euro increased costs for taxis on my own to get into the centre of Linz as this hotel was a long distance from the original hotel and the centre of Linz.
Very disappointing to get moved having prepaid the hotel.
The location of the hotel is just great. You can see everything in Linz on foot from these apartments. The owner is very polite and very hospitable person. Tell you what and where to see in the city.
The apartments have everything you need and even more. Inside the room, everything is furnished "with soul". Everything is clean, quiet and comfortable. Excellent price / quality!
The room was spacey and really modern. The location is great too. And the price was also good compared to other hotels in Linz.
I read some people were annoyed by noise from outside. As I was living in central part of Linz before, I think it’s because of weekend. For my stay on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, both nights were quiet and I could sleep well.
I was surprised at how nice the hotel was given its proximity to the train station. It is a family owned business and it is reflected in the cleanliness, the breakfast, the front desk staff and overall atmosphere. The room price was a value for the stay. It was in a safe area and I didn't feel threatened at all going back and forth to the hotel.
Nice hotel for sleep over and probably also for longer business trips, since rooms are spacious, very well equipped with kitchenette. There is also a self-service laundry in this hotel. Breakfast is good with some local austrian products as well.
The hotel is a beautifully renovated historic building with a wonderful atmosphere. Breakfast completely satisfactory (orange fresh...), beds and blankets very comfortable. Location right in the centre of Linz, yet quiet.
A pleasant, clean, medium-sized hotel within a few minutes'walk of the main Linz railway station. The breakfast is included in the price and is really good. There is also a bar. Not sure if there is a restaurant.
Great quality hotel with rich breakfast, great facilities, and nice staff. Exceptional level of service within the whole network of hotels, I have visited so far. Good value in the average price range for Linz.
Location and breakfast were good. Parking was also good. Cleanliness was at a good level, although the room looked like it could do with a bit of modification vs other IBIS hotels I have stayed at.
We stopped for one night in Linz, we choose this hotel as it was close to the city by car. Clean and tidy room, enough for a one night stay, good breakfast. The hotel staff was kind and helpful.
Location within the city of Linz is excellent; host are really friendly, too. Room was quiet big and also quiet. Didn’t have breakfast this visit, but I know it is good at this place!
Loved our stay in Linz. Perfect location and a lovely accommodation. Liked how it was part of the hotel with exceptional staff and service. Would highly recommend.
