It was all exactly as I expected having been here before. The staff are efficient if a little cold and there could have been more than one on the desks as it was a busy time for booking in so I had to wait.

Ypres has something for everyone. The restaurants have a variety of culinary options for every taste. Bars are friendly and comfortable with indoor and outdoor seating for drinks, a coffee, snacks or meals. Bicycles for hire mechanical or electric allow a visitor access to the countryside free from traffic and ease of viewing around the town. Tourist information in the Cloth Hall are very helpful and friendly. The historical buildings and the green environment really add towards an air of peace. A special treat is a walk along the town walls. Parking in the Market Square is not a problem nor overnight parking either. Don’t park in the Square on Friday night as there is a Market on Saturday and your car will be towed away. Shopping is a delight with supermarket, chocolate, books, fair trade and clothing all within walking distance of the Square. If Commemoration is part of your visit the Menin Gate Last Post ceremony each evening at 8 p.m. is very moving and an experience different from all others. Ypres is a gateway to Flanders: its people, its green environment, cycle paths, surrounding historical monuments with visitor centres throughout the countryside and its delicious foods.

We were a group of friends, we visited local war graves and stayed for the Last Post at the Menin Gate, which was well done and very respectful (although you need to get there at least 1 hour before the service to see anything). We do intend to visit again to explore the region further.

Ieper (Ypres) is an ideal base for exploring WW1 sites & cemetaries. The historic Cloth Hall contains an impressive museum and if you go it's worth paying the extra few euros to climb the 230 steps to the top of the bell tower. The views of the city are impressive from here.
The Last Post Ceremony every night at 8 pm is a moving and thought provoking tribute. It's a must if you can make it.

Ieper holds a horrendous history when it comes down to the tragic loss of life.
But on the other hand it has a sense of peace when you walk around.
The battles took place 108 years ago, so its good that there are still preserved sites to visit that this is never forgotten.

Ypres is a wonderful experience.
Ypres is a wonderful experience. Visit Menin Gate at 8pm each evening and hear the last post played for the fallen of the Great War.
On a Monday most shops and all restaurants and museums are closed.
The Hotel is within just over 1hrs drive from the tunnel in Calais, it has ample secure parking on site at the hotel, lots of WW1 exhibits within the hotels reception area and a first class service from start to finish, I’ve stayed at the hotel when I’ve been on my motorcycle and car, and the hotel staff are always very accommodating no matter what you need. it’s within an easy a ten mins walk to the center of Ypres and the Menin Gate , full marks for breakfast be that cooked or buffet, I can’t say enough how good this hotel is
Location. Street parking just outside for two motorcycles. There is a car park near by but the closer the better when on a motorbike. The owner was very helpful and knowledgeable. The coffee machine, biscuit's and fruit bowl were nice little extras, made all the difference to the welcome. Our twin room was spacious enough and the bathroom was very clean.
Breakfast was very good with the usual continental meats, cheese, eggs, cereals and more. Easy walking distance to the centre and Menin gate.
We have just experienced a most wonderful stay at St George IV hotel in Ypres. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with everything you need to make your stay special and memorable. From a perfect host, to a stunning hotel, delicious and beautifully presented breakfast, gorgeous and extremely comfortable bedroom and wonderful location. Would highly recommend and we would love to stay again. Thank you.
We came to Ypres to do a battlefield tour while we were visiting Belgium and were very glad to stay at the Albion Hotel. It felt small and intimate, the staff were extremely attentive and the breakfast hit the spot. Very clean hotel and our room was lovely and big with plenty space. Nothing in Ypres is far from the centre but the Albion's location was just perfect for our plans.
The hotel has nice family-run feel. The room was recently refurbished and spotless. Breakfast was good and had wide choice. The restaurant served typical Belgian food and was good addition since there are not other restaurants within a walking-distance. The hotel is within an easy ride to all the major sights and the complimentary parking is an excellent bonus.
Beautifully equipped house within walking distance of central Ypres and unbelievably FREE parking a 5 min walk away 😁. Excellent communication from the host in advance and house full of information on local historical attractions and sights, better than most tourist information centres. Welcome beers and snacks provided, just top hosting.
Low price for the centre of Ypres, but very tired around the edges. Also, on a Friday night, the market square was very noisy. Hotel owners obviously can't change that, but something to be aware of. Top floor rooms had limited roof height and were fairly cramped. Receptionist was friendly. Could be more, but obviously catering to a price.
This is the second time I have stayed here in the last few months. Excellent on both occasions. Spotlessly clean, friendly hosts. Very interesting fragment of the First War battles preserved in the grounds. 40 minute walk into Ypres. Huge free car park. Nice Contintal Breakfat . Good WiFi. Just a really nice hotel run by good people.
Excellent location. 200m from the main square. Nothing was too much trouble and the hosts (owners) were brilliant. Really good breakfast in lovely surroundings. Great decor to the breakfast room. The mattress was a bit too soft for me but not a problem. Highly recommend this hotel and I'll stay here every time I'm in Ypres.
Perfect location, a moments walk from the Menin Gate and only a few more to get to the Market Square (Cloth Hall and cathedral etc). The host is brilliant. He has created a real experience for his visitors in this house. It’s full of WW1 memorabilia. He ensures his guests make the most of their stay in Ypres.
A lovely traditional family run hotel, Ambrosia is set right in the heart of Ypres. Clean, tidy, warm & well appointed throughout. The room was a nice size, warm quiet with a nice hot shower
Staff were very helpful, & couldn’t do enough for us.
Breakfast was a varied selection , tasty, & well presented
The most exquisitely decorated, spotlessly clean boutique hotel with the kindest, most accommodating proprietor. Huge shower, large bath (Glory room). Time stops here; everything is unhurried and harmonious. Stunning breakfast. Lots of gluten free options. A truly fabulous experience.
Breakfast buffet was excellent. Something good for everyone. We were very impressed with everything about this well situated and wonderfully appointed hotel. Parking was very convenient. The staff were absolutely fantastic. One of the best hotel experiences.
Lovely hotel with free parking, close to town of Ypres and the battlefields. Staff very friendly and welcoming and rooms very comfortable with lots of space and facilities
