Porto Alegre is full of potential. However, I did not feel real safe walking by myself in some areas. On Sunday afternoon, I met a local who spoke English. She said my feelings were correct and that I needed to be VERY aware of who was around me. The town itself has an enormous amount of wonderful, old architectural beauties to behold. Compared to Salvador, Recife or Rio Porto Alegre has not so much to offer. There are some museums worth a short visit, there is the botanical garden and the Orla do Guaiba, the promenade/beach at the river, where it is especially nice to go to see the sunset. the worst part is the city airport connecting flight which is Lima Peru the worst most terrible airport in the world included the working personnel of the airport and the Avianca airline as well. in addition you can buy snitching to drink or eat because is a robbery. Traditional Porto Alegre hotel, with old but comfortable beds. Simple breakfast, but nutritious and only with what really matters: good sweet cake, a spectacular fruit salad, coffee passed on the whim and sandwich.
