I grew up in St. John's and it is a great spot for a visit.
I grew up in St. John's and it is a great spot for a visit. The facilities for tourists have really increased over the last 20 years and there are a lot of great restaurants and shops for tourists to experience. The sites in a city that is 400 years old are quite varied and there is ready access to nature visiting sites as well within an hour of the city core.
Pack for pretty variable weather that trends to cooler and damper.

The city offers so much history and with a wonderful presentation at The Rooms. We had a fun screeched in ceremony at Christians with skipper Lukey. The view from signal Hill shows it all. Cape spear and Quidi Vidi can not be missed as well. Especially having lunch at the Mallard Cottage and an Iceberg at the brew company. The waterfront in St. John’s is very interesting and worth the walk.

We stayed at this hotel upon arriving at the airport at 2:30 am.
Shuttle was waiting by the time we got to the pick up point. Great service. Friendly reception. Sufficient breakfast offerings. Great staff in all areas. Perfect for our needs.
Unexpectedly, we spent a second night at the end of our trip when our flight to Toronto was cancelled. Again--great staff in all areas.

Loved the Harbour and the pedestrian mall.
Loved the Harbour and the pedestrian mall. Very hilly, I will definitely be in better shape before my next visit (the unexpected humidity was exhausting, but we made the best of that!)
Everything was close by, very easy to get around.

Best recommendation is: Take the Metro Bus from your hotel to the Pedestrian Plaza on Water Street for shopping and restaurants. It is closed off for the summer and the shopping is delightful. Lots of outdoor patios. We chose one of the outdoor pubs for fish and chips and a local brew. Perfect! Now walk up the stairs at the Courthouse and see the Jelly Bean Houses. Pier 10 is a great place to see the cruise ships docking. Just down the hill from Water Street, this is where the bus lets you off. Catch the Hop on Hop off for lots of sights - located outside of the Alt Hotel on Water Street.

St-John's and the whole Newfoundland is a very unique place.
St-John's and the whole Newfoundland is a very unique place. If you love nature , it is the place for you , yet it also has great restaurants and nightlife and the people there are amazingly friendly and proud of their culture and province . There is a lot of talent from there and the art is amazing .So they will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and bring you the best experience ever. !
The location is great. The construction on Kenmount Road meant that we had to take a detour to access the hotel but it was no big deal and is only a temporary situation. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were just right. The room was large and clean. Having a microwave in addition to the mini-fridge is a real asset, plus a clothes iron and board. The staff were very friendly. Great value. I've stayed at this hotel before and will book it again for sure.
This was an absolute gem of a location for us. It was centrally located and walking distance to most everything downtown, including shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is a dream! Each room is a little different, but they are all impeccably designed and so far from a standard hotel room that you'll not want to leave. Sully was beyond wonderful and we had an incredible meal at their restaurant. I will not be staying anywhere else from now on!
I stayed at Bill's home on Gower Street before and after hiking Newfoundland's iconic East Coast Trail. This uniquely decorated and charming house in downtown St. John's was immaculately clean and very well appointed and I found nothing wanting. As a host, Bill was very hospitable and the assistance he provided helped make my backpacking trip a success. Overall, an excellent experience and I would have no qualms about staying there again.
This is a very cute hotel is a great location - very easy to walk everywhere downtown. It was really nice having the parking lot available behind the property for our rental car. We appreciated the breakfast with fresh made muffins and pancakes! Our room had the perfect mix of old character and modern touches - the bathroom was very nicely updated. We would definitely stay here again.
Not much. 24 hours before we arrived (ONCE WE COULD NOT CANCEL WITHOUT LOOSING OUR MONEY) I got an email notifying me this was a downtown location where there would be a lot of noise. I was also told there would be no hotel parking and I would need to park in the Metro Park at a cost of an extra 17.00 per day. Lots of surprises. On site restaurant very very expensive.
McKay Manor on Duckworth was a very nice place to stay in St. John's Newfoundland! We loved the location, it was very clean and comfortable. The location was close to most things we wanted to see and do. Overall, it was a great experience! Would recommend to anyone going to St. John's.
Good clean room with ample space. Really good breakfast served by a friendly staff member. Laundrette was a bonus. Location not close to St. Johns downtown but as we had a car that was not a problem. Visits to Signal Hill and Cape Spear were memorable. Good size car park.
Location of hotel, location of our room handy to the handicap parking, breakfast. Shuttle to and from the airport is a great guest friendly service. The fellow who picked us up on Thursday night was terrific. (Forgot his name). Front desk staff cheerful and courteous.
Included breakfast in the cafe was good. We had other food from the cafe in our room and it also was good.
Bed was the most comfortable of our 16 day stay in Newfoundland. What make and model matress do you use? We would like to purchase the same for our home.
We enjoyed the well appointed, large room with comfortable couch and chairs. Great place to relax. The bed and pillows were the most comfortable we had on our trip. The hotel was easy walking distance to the downtown area. We highly recommend this hotel.
Did not eat at hotel restaurant/bar but did enjoy some drinks there the evening of our stay. The proximity to the downtown is a bonus, all downtown amenities, other then Signal Hill, within walking distance. Valet service a bonus.
Beautiful home right in a perfect location to visit St. John's by foot. A clean, comfortable and practical space made for a great landing spot for the beginning of our Newfoundland trip. Would go back again in the future.
The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was the best I've seen at a hotel in a long time, and the seafood chowder was amazing. We appreciate having clean towels each day.
We upgraded to a beautiful room with a hot tub (although jets didn’t work). Hotel is kept immaculate. Breakfast in the morning was nice. 15 min walk to downtown.
The rooms were fine and I appreciated the laundry facility. It was just on a very busy stretch of roadway and much further from downtown than we expected.
Its a beautiful victorian house converted to a hotel . The bed and pillows were very comfortable . It was close to downtown but was a quiet neighbourhood.
