I loved the City it was clean and well maintained. I got lost and a kind Spanish man helped me get back on the Camino.
This man walked with me for 4 kilometres until we found the Camino TRAIL.
Ponferrada the City should mark the Camino trail better than they have. Even signage within the city saying “Camino that way. A few other city residents did not have a clue on how to get back to the Camino. The Knights Templar Castle was a sight to see.

Wonderful Temple knights history, well described during castle visit. Impressive past and great attraction on Camino de Santiago for the thousands of Pilgrims now walking or cycling. An important part of old Spanish history.
A perfect spot right in the historic center, across the basilica of Ponferrada. The appartement is rightly named a suite. The interior is brand new and well designed. It offers all comfort and comfortable beds. And then … the roodtop terrace has an amazing view on the castle and the basilica. The host was great and very helpful. The procedure smooth. Don’t hesitate to book here, and try to stay more than one night!
Its just a good hotel! Good breakfast, quiet rooms, bar etc. Shops nearby. Its near the train station, next to the castle. From the busstation you walk to the nearby fountain and enter the street next to the Encina building. Its the street on the on the left. You walk ten minutes in straight line to the castle. Behind it its the first street LEFT.
I liked every single thing about this place. It was spotless, desk folk were way friendly, the location is danged near perfect, and they had the Italy v Spain Futball game on in the attached cafe. Spain lost, but the hotel had nothing to do with that. Amazing bathtub for soaking off the day's pains.
Good reasonable budget hotel which we used on a recent visit to watch our team play the local club. On the outskirts but a reasonable walk to both the new and old parts of the town.
Modern basic hotel . Rooms clean and adequate with good buffet breakfast.
Staff really friendly and helpful.
I had an accident while in this city and needed to go to hospital, the staff in particular the gentleman on reception were extremely kind and helpful, he really was the most helpful hotel receptionist I have ever come across, made it a wonderful place to stay
Very nice well appointed hotel in a great position close to the Knights Templar castle and the old town. Parking a bit of problem but managed to street park before finding out a public park 50 yards away.
The staff is very nice and tries to help in any way. Their English is limited, but hey we are in Spain, so we should put all effort in speaking Spanish.
Also, across the street is a laundry service!
Good breakfast. Plenty of food. Clean modern building. Spacious room. Very well placed for the centre of Ponferrada near the castle. Great facility for bikes in the basement.
The hotel was nice- the room was good, and they had a tub, which was great after a long day on the Camino. I did not eat at the restaurant- but breakfast was adequate
The location in Ponferrada was fabulous… just a little bit off the Camino and past the castle. The room was small, but it was very clean, crisp linens and a window.
In the “Camino de Santiago”, from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Ponferrada, after more than 500 kms, Albergue Guiana in Ponferrada is the best Albergue. Excellent!
