Beautiful medieval city with impressive palaces, churches, walls etc.
A wonderful place to hang around.
After sunset it might feel a bit uncomfortable, however I did not feel particularly unsafe at any point.

Great history and narrow lovely streets to walk through.
Great history and narrow lovely streets to walk through. Visit to Popes old digs and the old bridge were great. Natural museum was free, however it took only 15 minutes to see the collection. Restaurant’s and food there were great as well. Could do without all of the beggars on the street, some who were obviously drunk and quite aggressive constantly asking us for money. Carry some coins just in case you get cornered and feel threatened as it’s the easiest way out of it without risk.

Avignon once was a beautiful old town, rich in history and lovely to walk around is. These days, however, the city is horribly dilapidated; at least two out of every ten shops is closed forever and their storefronts are covered in graffiti.
Another deception is the fact that it is very hard to find affordable restaurants serving French food, since the centre of town is filled with tourist traps serving pizza's, couscous and similar imported dishes.

Beautiful, historic, walkable city, with numerous plazas, charming narrow streets and great restaurants. Popes palace and surrounding area was spectacular, with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Great base location for day trips to other nearby interesting towns like Arles and Orange and others.
We loved the fact that the accommodation was more like a home rather than a hotel room. There were lots of personal touches, the space was amazing as was the terrace with the jacuzzi. We also loved that the host was always available if needed and continued to ask if he could pick us up and take us somewhere or assist with anything we needed. Overall it was an amazing experience and we were so glad we did not choose a hotel for our 3 night stay in Avignon. I would recommend anyone to stay here - this will be one of our stays to remember!
My husband and I are from Canada spending 5 weeks in France. We booked two weeks in Nice and decided to take a couple days to spend in Avignon. Am I ever glad we did!! This charming B and B was amazing! The ladies were wonderfully accommodating, helpful and charming. Location was perfect the house was beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast was beyond anything I could have asked for and kept me full until late afternoon. When I come back to visit this charming place, I would definitely stay here again. Thank you so much!!
Host met us in person after we arrived by car, to show us where to park and how to use the facilities. This was the best apartment we had stayed during our entire France trip ( 3 weeks). The location was opposite the wall and the large multi-storey carpark directly access to the unit is a plus. The photo was identical with the actual unit. Highly recommended.
This hotel is near the train station so the walk wasn't bad, which was appreciated on a warm summer day. My room was truly exceptional: the bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows, the bathroom was huge, as was the shower, and the lift was convenient. The breakfast was good, and the hotel was near good restaurants and most of the sights in Avignon.
Great location right in the heart of Avignon. Breakfast was wonderful, so French, but great... some of the best croissant I've ever had! You can walk straight out of this hotel to the main square of Avignon and eat into the night, then only a few metres away is the Palais des Papes.
Room was quirky but suitable. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
spur of the moment decision to visit Avignon and we chose Hotel Le Medieval. it was everything we needed…clean, fabulous location for enjoying the city and surrounding area, staff that was
warm and helpful, charming breakfast to start the day. we thoroughly appreciated everything Hotel Le Medieval contributed out our stay In Provence.
The hotel was located just within the town wall and the parking was very close and must be reserved in advance. The breakfast was typical France pastries, meat and cheese and the room was comfortable except the air conditioner was not working and we had to keep the window open to cool down the room. The location was great!
- Mr Stephane at the reception was outstanding. Very professional, knowledgeable and helpful.
- The lobby is very cozy and we allocated daily time there to enjoy the setting.
- The prices are reasonable especially for that service and location
- The rooms are very big compared to other similar hotel in Avignon
It's a beautiful hotel out on the Island about 50 mins walk from central Avignon. It was wonderfully special. Staff were friendly and the restaurant was really spectacular food. Very busy as well, so always need to book.
Location was quiet and the rooms were lovely.
… we found a courtyard of calm and tranquility, perfectly presented accommodation and a host who genuinely made us welcome. Breakfast put the very best five star hotels to shame and the presentation and attention to detail was second to none.
Terrific location and well priced. In short walking distance to the train station, the Pope’s Palace and restaurants. Stayed here for 5 nights, had our best sleep here during our two week vacation in southern France.
Lovely welcoming hotel in great location close to the station and everything Avignon has to offer but still quiet . Pretty sunny terrace. Tea and coffee always available. All rather stylish. Excellent breakfast.
It's a simple 3* hotel, not a corporate, and I love it. If we come back to Avignon, we'll certainly stay here again. Comfy beds, great breakfast, very good value, very helpful guy on the desk, good location.
What made this an exceptional stay was the hotel staff - genuinely warm, always helpful and very knowledgable! Then add to that the charm of Avignon and the hotel’s central location and you have a winner!
The hotel is in a very nice looking building on the Main Street of Avignon, about 500 m. from the palace. The room was tastefully appointed and comfortable. The view from the room was quite spectacular.
Perfect location, that is exactly where you want to be visiting Avignon, room slightly outdated, with not so comfy beds, parking as described, about 5 min walk from hotel, public parking open 24h
