We know the Isle of Man very well and although Douglas has suffered through the current financial crisis, it is still a good city to visit. The museum is free and very informative. The tour of the government building likewise. It is easy to get around the city and buses to other parts of the island are plentiful. There is a range of restaurants to suit every pocket and we also cane home with Isle of Man kippers. People are friendly, including the lovely staff at the Hydro. I would always encourage visitors to make Douglas a base and travel all over the Island. Peel, Ramsey and Castletown all are worth a visit and offer differing aspects of the Island.

Douglas is a seaside town with most places in close...
Douglas is a seaside town with most places in close proximity to each other; the ferry terminal and Tourists Information Centre, the shops, cafés, pubs, banks, museum, and the two seafront theatres. The Villa Marina is a large theatre and cinema. The Gaiety Theatre is a smaller and most charming old theatre. Further down the Seafront is The Palace Cinema. I enjoyed a good film there. Comfortable seats. There a nice chippies around the town. The bus route Douglas to Ramsey along the coast road has stunning views. The other main towns are quick and easy to get to on bus, and the airport too. That's just half hour away.
The is a great location along the promenade with easy walking access to the beach and a longer walk to the shopping and restaurant area. The hotel's restaurant was good with a nice buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The offer a High Tea but you have to reserve 24 hours in advance. The staff was very helpful. We took the local bus from the airport to the hotel, it stops right out front; and a taxi back - very easy. Make sure you say "Hi" to the fairies when you cross the fairy bridge. :-)
The hotel was in a fantastic location on Douglas Promenade with the shops and bars a 1 minute walk away. The breakfast in the mornings was fantastic. This was a served breakfast rather than the usual self service buffet style. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a lovely comfortable lounge to sit in and they have a good bar menu if you don’t want to go in for a full dinner. Extensive drinks list as well. A very clean and comfortable hotel.
Excellent location centrally on Douglas Promenade just a short walk to the town centre
Good alternative access for disabled/ physically challenged people at entry and throughout the hotel.
Good transport links - bus stop just outside hotel with a frequent bus service in each direction
Staff were all friendly and helpful
Rooms were clean and well maintained
Good breakfast and very good food in the restaurant . Good food/ snacks available at the bar
We came to Isle Of Man parkrun and the weather was extremely windy and wet. We were due to book in at 3pm at the Best Western Palace so when we arrived at the hotel, we were wet through and very muddy.
We couldn’t go to our rooms as we were too early, but we were allowed to use the pool, spa and showers to clean up and change into dry clothes. We were so relieved to have a hot shower with towels and facilities all free.
The Ellan Vannin Hotel in Douglas is a lovely hotel, very clean and presentable with friendly staff who were very helpful.
With a close proximity to the sea terminal and town centre, this hotel is ideal for any traveller who has embarked from the ferry.
The room was very clean, presentable and the bed was very comfortable! I stayed in room 15 (which is on the 3rd floor).
Classic hotel. Very personable and friendly staff. Made one feel at home. Breakfast was eggs, toast, beans, cereal, tea/coffee, juice and individually served and cooked. Quite good. Hotel hasn't been refurbished in years, which gives it an old fashioned slow down type look. Room was expertly made up every day. I very much enjoyed my stay here.
Staff were friendly and helpful room was spotless and clean choice of shower or bath shower gel and shampoo provided for you. Location is perfect 2 minute walk from the main Electirc Railway which gives you access to beyond Douglas & The Horse Tram only a short walk to Bus Stop. Parking avallable outside the hotel.
Perfect hostel on the Isle of Man. All the facilities are new. Beds are comfortable. The bathroom is very functional. The place offers access to a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area.
Location is just 5 minutes walk from the city centre of Douglas and bus station.
Great value for money!
Good location, nice room with sea views. Hotel standards in Douglas aren't great generally, but this is one of the better places. The attached restaurant is run by a separate operator, and serves good food with an old-fashioned menu -- it's popular with local people for special occcasions.
The location is great for anyone visiting the island. It's right on the seafront, with a lovely view of Douglas bay. The onsite bar is good, plenty of different drinks and very good food. We also enjoyed the Majestic Chinese restaurant which was excellent.
Obviously the hotel has tried to update accommodation to meet expectations of visitors in the 21st century which for what I needed it did. Choice at breakfast was excellent - hot food was hot! The room was clean and decoration tidy
The hotel is well maintained. Breakfast was good, though the choices did not vary much. The dinner on Friday night was good. Very attentive staff and the entertainment by the piano player during dinner was very much appreciated.
Great English breakfast. On the 2nd morning we had to leave early and staff prepared a packed breakfast for us. Receptionist was also helpful in providing some ideas of places to visit in Douglas and Isle of Man
Glen Mona is a lovely older building with easy access to the Promenade and beautiful seafront. We walked a short distance to another hotel for breakfast. The breakfast was quite good.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful, including advice about local facilities. The breakfasts were excellent. The location was superb to see Douglas and the wider Isle of Man.
A wonderful small hotel at the promenade of Douglas. Very charming and friendly service people, excellent breakfast with many choices. Hope to get back soon.
