My stay was very relaxed and I was very well looked after from first arrival to leaving the following morning. The B&B is located in a nice quiet area with easy access to local towns and villages. The breakfast was prepared fresh, there was great choice and very generous in the portions. I alsp enjoyed some nice conversation with my host Hannah. The gardens were very nice. I would certainly recommend a stay. The price was very reasonable and good value.

My recent stay at Summergrove House was an absolute dream. This beautiful period house has been lovingly restored by the host, James, whose passion for both history and hospitality is evident in every corner of the property.
From the moment I arrived, James made me feel incredibly welcome. His warmth and genuine friendliness made the experience feel more like visiting an old friend rather than staying at a B&B. James is a font of local historical knowledge, and geography, his captivating stories and insights added a rich layer of context to my visit, making me appreciate the area even more.
The house itself is a masterpiece of restoration. Each room retains the charm of the past with added modern comforts, creating an ambiance that is both cosy and elegant. The attention to detail in the décor and the preservation of historical elements are truly commendable.
One of the highlights of my stay was undoubtedly the breakfasts. James loves to cook, and this was evident each morning in the kitchen where I was greeted with a freshly brewed coffee whilst James prepared my bespoke breakfast using ingredients fresh from the gardens.
My three-night stay at Summergrove House was a memorable experience. The combination of James's hospitality, the beautifully restored house, and the delicious breakfasts made my visit truly special. If you're a solo traveller looking for a place that feels like a home away from home, with a touch of historical charm and culinary delight, Summergrove House is the perfect choice. I can't wait to return!

Mountmellick is a quiet town. It offers some sites and history (founded by Quakers), but more importantly if you are staying there, the area is well sited for day excursions to other sites. It is a quiet, mostly farming community.

Great base for visiting historical sites and walking; also close enough to Dublin and even closer to Kildare and its renowned shopping village if that's your thing. Some excellent restaurants close by.

The town itself has some good points - the Mountmellick Development Association has restored an old building as a Museum whivh is mainly staffed by volunteers and this might be the reason it is only open Monday to Friday. There are only a couple of bars open during the week none of which serve food or have music. This is a definite negative,
It is located a short distance from the trail heads of the Slieve Blooms and interesting locations such as Emo Court.

It's a good base for the Slieve Blooms which are gorgeous, a reasonably sizable town with a fair bit to do. Rosenallis and Clonaslea, while closer, have fewer shops, pubs, take aways etc., and no hostels.
Anna is a lovely and friendly host. The house is set in a beautiful rural area with only a 5 minute drive to Mountmellick. The room was very comfortable and clean with everything needed. Private bathroom for my room down the hall was clean and spacious. May have ensuite as well. The Breakfast in the morning was fresh, plentiful and delicious. Really set up for the day. Will be back.
Anna, the owner was such a lovely lady and although i was only there for a night, We had a nice chat at breakfast. She was very helpful, honest, & accommodating after i made some booking errors.
The breakfast was 'super' and the whole B&B was also 'super'. I would infidelity recommend Barrow view to anyone in and around Mountmellick/Portlaois.
It's a beautiful house on very peaceful grounds. The rooms are well appointed with tasteful decor and modern bathrooms. The host James was very helpful and cooked a very nice breakfast with homemade marmalade.
It was better value than the hotels in Portlaoise and definitely a nicer experience.
Host was very welcoming and friendly. Room and ensuite were a good size. There was a breakfast menu that would rival or even surpass many a hotel and it was delicious. We would definitely return.
