Hakone Retreat Före, hotel in Hakone

Situated in the mountain ranges of Hakone in the Sengokuhara Hot Springs region, Hakone Reatreat Före is a 50-minute bus ride from Odawara Station.

Hakone Retreat Fore is a really special place. We loved being nestled in the forest, surrounded by the beautiful gardens and abundant nature. The staff came to collect us as we started walking up to the entrance from the bus stop. They were so welcoming and kind. We loved having a glass of welcome wine in the games room! The onsen is really lovely as well, and well equipped. We wished we had booked another night! I highly recommend making this one of your last stops on a Japanese holiday. It was the perfect way to relax after two weeks of sightseeing. Also the breakfast is amazing!

RoheN Resort&Lounge HAKONE, hotel in Hakone

Located 11 km from Hakone-Yumoto Station, RoheN Resort&Lounge HAKONE offers 3-star accommodation in Hakone and features a shared lounge, a restaurant and a bar.

I loved the location being walkable from the ferry station and bus station. They have an in-house restaurant and cook up delicious food. The lounge area was perfect. It rained one entire day, so having books and a cosy place to sit and read helped pass time. The staff are warm and friendly. The capsule was comfortable, and the double bed size was more than enough for one person.

Absolutely incredible staff from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure. In particular, Yuuta was so helpful, attentive, and downright elegant. An EXCEPTIONAL breakfast and dinner were included with our room, prepared as Japanese interpretation of multi-course French cuisine. The view from the dining area was stunning. Absolutely wonderful. I believe all rooms include a private outdoor onsen (hot spring bath) where you can soak for hours while enjoying nature.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit. I recommend 2-3 days to really experience and explore. I got the Hakone free pass and made my way around the loop over 2 days and the scenery was breathtaking, an extra day would have allowed deeper relaxation and extra exploring. Definitely explore the shrines around the lake and try and get to an Onsen while you are there. I did find it tricky to find tattoo cover patches, so possibly worth looking into before travelling to Hakone if you need to cover up.

    Beautiful nature and atmosphere.

Beautiful nature and atmosphere. The trip to Lake Ashimoto was lovely and the scenery impressive. The highlight of our stay in Hakone was dipping in the local onsens, we loved the experience and the feeling of relaxation after a bath. We ate at different local restaurants, mostly found via map apps, which made great food at reasonable prices. We used the Hakone Pass to get around using trains, cable cars and the ropeway, all very convenient and easy to use. We could have used a couple extra days to visit some of the attractions in the area, that we did not have enough time to enjoy.

We chose this hotel for the private onsen in the room which was great ! The hotel also has its own outdoor and indoor onsens. Location was ideal for hiking - we got the ship across Lake Ashi and did a walk up Mount Mikuni and the surrounding mountains. You can get great views of Mount Fuji from the lake (which is a 10 min walk down from the hotel) if the weather is clear. To get here we got a train to Odawara and then a bus (ask tourist information in the station) which took about an hour, and there's a bus stop right outside the hotel.

The traditional Japanese room was everything we could've asked for and more! The hotel provided Hukatas to wear around everywhere, if you wanted enhancing the overall experience. The food is a must! We were so thankful for the breakfast and dinner every day of our stay, delicious and authentic! The staff was incredibly helpful assisting with the complex bus system around Hakone and Fuji even with the bus station directly outside. Booking the private onsen was a breeze and 100% worth it. The ryokan is located less than a 10-minute walk away from Hakone-Yumoto train station and a 3-minute walk away from a bus stop. The onsen is very beautiful and the water is lukewarm - perfect temperature. The Japanese garden is breathtaking. The staff were very kind and helpful, and one of them even helped me put on my yukata for me to go to the onsen. There are free soft drinks in the lounge. There's an in-house steak restaurant that serves quality wagyu beef.

Mt Fuji peaking through the clouds was seen through the hotel room window, with the hotel located in a quiet forest spot, it's on the list for a must visit next time we stay in Hakone. From the generous variety at the buffet, to the well equipped onsen bathhouse, it was truly a wonderful stay. The futon beds were easy to arrange ourselves, super warm even on a cold night. They've even got fairy lights out in the garden at night with great photo locations.

The calm, surreal and breathtaking view of the lake, which makes up for the distance that the hotel is located from the Hakone town (about 20 mins drive).
