I loved outside onsen. The dinner was also vey good. We could choose our meal on the buffet. I found the idea of the open buffet very good.

Hakone Retreat Fore is a really special place. We loved being nestled in the forest, surrounded by the beautiful gardens and abundant nature. The staff came to collect us as we started walking up to the entrance from the bus stop. They were so welcoming and kind. We loved having a glass of welcome wine in the games room! The onsen is really lovely as well, and well equipped. We wished we had booked another night! I highly recommend making this one of your last stops on a Japanese holiday. It was the perfect way to relax after two weeks of sightseeing. Also the breakfast is amazing!

Service - The staff there are very friendly and helpful, they will try their best to answer your questions. 👍🏻
Food- The dinner and breakfast are very nice 👍🏻 must try!
Onsen - There are two onsen which divided into male and female. No private onsen.
Room- room is spacious and the bed is comfortable.

I loved the location being walkable from the ferry station and bus station.
They have an in-house restaurant and cook up delicious food.
The lounge area was perfect. It rained one entire day, so having books and a cosy place to sit and read helped pass time.

Absolutely incredible staff from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure. In particular, Yuuta was so helpful, attentive, and downright elegant.
An EXCEPTIONAL breakfast and dinner were included with our room, prepared as Japanese interpretation of multi-course French cuisine. The view from the dining area was stunning. Absolutely wonderful.

The hotel is absolutely perfect - we regretted staying only for one night. The rooms are super private, sometimes it feels like you are the only guests in the hotel. Private onsen is a pure luxury. The rooms are basically like 1 bedroom villa, super spacious, modern, comfortable and clean. The aesthetics of the hotel is beautiful: modern and minimalistic design blending with nature. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and memorable.
Japanese hospitality is unmatched - we felt super welcome and the service was outstanding.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit. I recommend 2-3 days to really experience and explore. I got the Hakone free pass and made my way around the loop over 2 days and the scenery was breathtaking, an extra day would have allowed deeper relaxation and extra exploring.
Definitely explore the shrines around the lake and try and get to an Onsen while you are there. I did find it tricky to find tattoo cover patches, so possibly worth looking into before travelling to Hakone if you need to cover up.

Beautiful nature and atmosphere.
Beautiful nature and atmosphere. The trip to Lake Ashimoto was lovely and the scenery impressive. The highlight of our stay in Hakone was dipping in the local onsens, we loved the experience and the feeling of relaxation after a bath. We ate at different local restaurants, mostly found via map apps, which made great food at reasonable prices. We used the Hakone Pass to get around using trains, cable cars and the ropeway, all very convenient and easy to use. We could have used a couple extra days to visit some of the attractions in the area, that we did not have enough time to enjoy.

One of the highlights of our trip to Japan was visiting Hakone. We would wholeheartedly recommend staying in Gora and doing the loop up to the mountain and then on the sightseeing boat. The Hakone Free-Pass offers great value for money.

The hakone free pass is excellent and a must for all visitors. There is an abundance of sites and tourist offerings about the area. We did the railways the open air museum the boat and ropeway and achieved all of this within about 24 hours. It is a beautiful destination and a must from the hustle and bustle of the city life
The traditional Japanese room was everything we could've asked for and more! The hotel provided Hukatas to wear around everywhere, if you wanted enhancing the overall experience. The food is a must! We were so thankful for the breakfast and dinner every day of our stay, delicious and authentic! The staff was incredibly helpful assisting with the complex bus system around Hakone and Fuji even with the bus station directly outside. Booking the private onsen was a breeze and 100% worth it. Highly recommend to any and all who come to visit
Everything! Hotel is in a beautiful setting, basically on the shore of Lake Ashi. It's a 5-minute walk from the hotel to the sightseeing cruise (which is a great way to explore Lake Ashi), and the Hakone Ropeway which we also recommend doing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Private onsen (that you pay for - $30 for 40 minutes) was a lovely experience, although there is a public onsen which is free to use. Buffet breakfast and dinner were included in the price and were amazing, catering for all palates.
Mt Fuji peaking through the clouds was seen through the hotel room window, with the hotel located in a quiet forest spot, it's on the list for a must visit next time we stay in Hakone. From the generous variety at the buffet, to the well equipped onsen bathhouse, it was truly a wonderful stay. The futon beds were easy to arrange ourselves, super warm even on a cold night. They've even got fairy lights out in the garden at night with great photo locations.
The location is superb! Very near to Komagatake Ropeway. The Japanese style room with Mount Fuji and lake Ashi view was fantastic. The outdoor natural spring onsen was cheery on the top :) The staff is very helpful. One of our guests was vegetarian so the Roykan staff made arrangements for us to have dinner and breakfast at thier parent Prince hotel nearby.
Overall, its a great Japanese hospitality experience at not too high or too low price.
a wonderful ryokan in traditional Japanese style, incredible breakfasts and dinners that will delight you! very friendly hosts, cozy room. I had a room with a private onsen and it was a great stay. The hotel also has a shared onsen, but I found the water in it hotter than in the private one. The rooms have everything you need; they provide slippers, yukatas, bathrobes, and socks. the appearance of ryokan is great
Despite being a small onsen, it contritubed to the unique atmosphere of HAKONE RETREAT FÖRE - a serene haven in nature.
Our room, Deluxe Double Room with Shower was perfect for relaxing whilte looking out at the mountains surrounding the hotel. Bed room was cozy with a comfortable bed and its windows and a living room was spacious enough, and the bathroom was okay too.
The onsen facility is nice and you can use both onsen facilities on the main Okada hotel and yu no sato spa which connected to Hakonenomori. We did both dinner and breakfast included plan and it was amazing, would definitely recommend including the meal plan since the hotel is bit far from the main street and most stores close early in Hakone.
The staff was OUTSTANDING!!! Kind, warm, knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, and caring. Lin, one of the inn keepers, helped us tremendously!!!
The onsen was FANTASTIC!!!
On this trip, we’ve been to many hotels, ryokans, and onsens! By far, this was was clean, beautiful, and over-the-top wonderful with staff who made it PERFECT!!!
Location of hotel was very close to the ropeway and lake. Very tranquil building with a patch of grass outside which offered some activity space ( they provided badminton, Frisbees etc). They had vending machines for bottled water, drinks, snacks at the lobby. Dinner and breakfast was decent. The onsen was clean too.
Pretty awesome onsen experience. Very good price for hotels with private onsen and no need to worry about your privacy. The room is large and comfortable. The traditional breakfast is also a must-try. All the staff are really nice and helpful. The location is also great with restaurants and museums nearby.
Everything was great, we had an inroom onsen it was fantastic and so was the personnel.
The facilities were very clean and convenient.
The japanese breakfast was also amazing
Also It's right next to the Hakone Yomoto train station.
I recommend to stay in this hotel when visiting Hakone!
Really nice ryokan hotel, staff was super helpfull and nice to us, they gave us a room on a highest floor:) private onsen experience really worth it and food was just delicious! hotel is super close to the bus stop, with close direction to Lake Ashi and ropeway. We recommend definately :)
The hotel is located in beautiful nature, the view was phantastic! We could see Mt Fuji and the lake.
Our tradional Japanese style room and the onsen were amazing as well, the hotel staff was very friendly.
I will come back again in the future!
Thank you very much
Kana was an adorable and helpful host who booked us an onsen and gave us a variety of Japanese treats to try. The beds were the most comfortable of our trip and the bathrooms clean. The hostel was located in a handy position to reach Gora or Lake Ashi.
The room was very large, in Japanese traditional style, with all you can need. The garden and the onsen of the hotel are AMAZING. stunning. These just worth the price of the room, and the travel to Hakone. I would definitely go back there.
Lake Ashi view from the hotel is very impressive.
Quite and Perfect for taking a rest from a long trip.
Room is large and comfortable. Located next to Hakonemachi-ko station for pirate ship and bus station, very convenient.
Nice place to stay in Hakone, although the hotel and rooms are a bit undated it was okay for us. The best thing in the hotel is the outdoor onsen and the view of mt Fuji from the lake-front of the hotel.
We had the room with a private onsen and nice view of the valley. Large, ryokan style room. Excellent buffet Japanese and western breakfast. Provided yucatas. Shoe free hotel and public onsen.
Great hotel meeting most expectations at that level, great room and comfort, great location by the lake, nice outdoor onsen, delicious food. Staff showed a lot of hospitality the Japanese way.
Not too far from Hakone-Yumoto station. About 10 minutes walk. A quiet and peaceful area. The private onsen room we had was amazing. The meals were really good and portion was very generous.
