Everything went very well before (prompt communication) and during my stay.
The single room I got was the biggest one I had during this trip to Japan. The castle view (I had specifically asked for it) was unique as well as the roof terrace from which one can enjoy an amazing view.
The bed was comfortable.
Excellent Japanese breakfast.
Very polite and professional staff.
Great value for money. Thank you!

The staff was friendly and helpful. Kumamoto Castle was across the street from the hotel. Hotel lobby was big and impressive. The bus stop was right outside of the hotel and easy to catch.
The breakfast dining room had the most impressive and fantastic view of Kumamoto Castle perched on top of the hill. Of all of our travel, this dining room view was the nicest of all.

Mount Aso and Kurokawa Onsen were the highlight of the trip.
Mount Aso and Kurokawa Onsen were the highlight of the trip. Absolutely worth the drive out to go and experience both places. Kumamoto Castle was also incredible, though going inside the castle was kind of a disappointment. The outside of the Castle is the highlight, and although there are some nice artifacts to look at inside, it is mainly a warm shoulder to shoulder cue of trying to get to the top, which itself is just smudge class and heat to rival a sauna.
The local foods are a must! Kumamoto ramen gives that extra kick you want when having tonkotsu ramen, and basashi (horse meat) sashimi is a unique must for those who don't live in Japan to experience.
Very easy to get around with a car, but with the tram system and the busses having English on the header (something we could with in Nagasaki) it looks like navigating public transport would be easier than most places for English speaking foreign visitors.

Kunamoto is a bit off the tourist route, but has a tidy and peaceful demeanour with a beautifully designed shopping mall in the middle of town. The castle is close by as well.
Just be aware that the onsen are grossly misleading. The normal price us JPY400-700, but this lot want to extort over JPY4000! Absolute rip off. Alternatively, they market themselves as "public" bath, but when the public turn up to give them money, the venue rewrites the dictionary buy defining "public" as "private" for accommodation guests only!

Kumamoto is a nice and much quieter city where you can enjoy a relaxing holiday. The main attractions are mostly located outside the city central, such as Mount Aso.
You can travel around the city using some new and retro trams, or public buses.

Old meets new - everything from 500+ year old incredible castles and amazing gardens surrounding ancient temples (Suizenji Jujoen), to the three year old and stunning Sakuramachi Kumamoto building with green areas on every balcony and rooftop, to the fabulous nightlife and shopping around Shimotori, Kamitori, Nishiginzatori and Sunroad Shishigai Streets. My absolute favourite part of the city (have been coming for decades since I was a high school exchange student…), my first time at Candeo Hotel Kumamoto, but I will definitely be returning! So easy to get around, everything within walking distance (and all undercover or with underground walkway areas for when it’s raining), so safe, beautifully clean, and public transport is simple too.
Very close to train station. (Exit out into the large open plaza and turn the corner to the right. You'll see the hotel ahead to the left.)
Use the street car directly across the plaza in front of the train station to get to Kumamoto Castle.
The room is small but clean and comfortable. The included breakfast buffet was Asian style and adequate. Other options exist at the train station.
Overall, a typical, reasonably priced stay, convenient to transportation.
Close to tram lines, easy to get to places like Kumamoto castle. Not so far from train station that if you need to take a taxi it won’t be too expensive. Good size and price for a solo traveler. The 7-11 across the road is handy if you don’t feel like cooking yourself. Post office within walking distance (next to tram stop). Staying in this apartment really made me reminisce back to when I lived in Japan teaching English.
A "classic" hotel, not brand new but well kept and maintained.
Spacious room, with a view of the Kumamoto castle.
Great bathroom, with a large bathtub.
The staff is stylish, welcoming and helpful.
Great breakfast, with a choice of Japanese or Western.
Location couldn't be better. We left the car at the hotel parking and walked to the places we wanted to see.
A relaxing stay.
Location was great, close to main shopping malls and a couple of well sized car parks around (hotel can provide guide on some) making it easy to access. Rooftop bathing facilities were very nice though it’s a shame that on the female side, the privacy film is at the wrong height to enable views a Kumamoto castle.
The hotel is new and modern. The location is superb being next to JR station and on top of the AMU plaza. the room is spacious and the facility is awesome. The public bath is new with great amenities. It’s perfect to relax after a full day of sightseeing in Kumamoto castle.
Basic, no-frills hostel, clean & quiet | close to Kumamoto station and Kumamoto Castle | basic kitchen, coffee/tea provided | warm shower, towel provided | bunks have privacy curtain | small lockers for valuable items | good WiFi | payment is yen only upon check-in |
The breakfast was good with variety of foods to choose. Location is perfect with view of Castle. Staffs are friendly too. Hotel do have car park either on the premises or just nearby private car park ( Indicate that you need car park lot when booking )
The hotel was in a great location, next to the shopping street, and lots of food/restaurant options nearby too. I have an excellent view of the Kumamoto Castle from my room. The breakfast was excellent too!
The hotel is located on top of a shopping centre and bus terminal so it’s quite convenient. Our window was overlooking the shopping centre’s roof top garden and can see Kumamoto Castle in the distance.
Good location with less than 10 min walk to the shopping street and able to walk to Kumamoto castle.
Also they have common area for us to relaxing, eating with some accommodations.
the room has a view of Kumamoto Castle. Also, it is about a 5 min walk to there.
I like the area was active. restaurant is a lot in the area and two of the main sightseen in there
Everything, location and cleanliness in particular. Short walk to Kumamoto castle, city centre - Sakuramachi bus terminal and public transport. Staff are helpful and courteous
