This hotel was more like a hostel. Also expensive for what you got.
I find with booking on line you never get what is advertised. The court yard was nice. Rickity plastic chairs. Paid $70 a night for a lumpy bed and pillow.
Now I will only book one night as I'm never sure what I would get

Spotlessly clean, meticulously maintained tasteful older hotel. Gorgeous, lush plants everywhere. Pretty Mexican tile and wood work. Unobstructed ocean view, yard not fenced in with bars like many other properties. Clean pool.

Melaque is a lovely little beach town, very friendly people and plenty of good restaurants and shops. There is a local bus to go to neighbouring towns. Many ex-pats seem to be in this town, so it's possible to get by without a lot of Spanish, but it's definitely handy to know a little. The beach is great, and not crowded at all. Very walkable town.

Andrea, the receptionist was excellent in that her customer services/skills were exceptional. It was no problem for her to walk me around property looking at available apartments, other than my confirmed booked one. Upon arriving, I was excited about the close proximity to the ocean, so asked to switch to a room with full view. My lights in bedroom wasn't working the first night and when I told Andrea the next morning, the owner was present, I told him my vacation was to relax & read.
Not only did he change the light bulb, he also had specially put a reading lamp on bedside dresser! Due to my light not working first night, I enquired about a discount, which was given. So I decided to stay longer than my original one night confirmation, staying on an extra 4 nights.
Very clean, housekeeping great. Pool area one of the best I've seen
Thanks guys, Caron Len, New Zealand

San Patricio Melaque has a beautiful beach, lots of good little restaurants, shops and artists. The crocodile refuge in La Manzanilla was really good and the market and beach in Barra de Navidad too. Both are very accessible by bus or taxi. We hired a bout for the day at Barra. Great place for a vacation.

Very small village. Lots of shopping. Pleasant people.
Very small village. Lots of shopping. Pleasant people. Unfortunately, a lot of garbage in the streets and curbs. Dengue fever very prevalent. Be sure to bring insect repellant as it is carried by the mosquitoes.
Feel very safe there.

I hate to tell people, because everyone will want to go, but it is a great Mexican town. Safe, beautiful beach, lots of great restaurants and music every night somewhere! More and more English is spoken, so there is less of a language barrier.

Staff were excellent and accommodating. Our suite had the best equipped kitchen facilities we have encountered in a Mexican hotel although the electric stove was very slow to start. The upper floor terrace was exceptional and patrons could relax, read, chat and eat there, often in refreshing ocean breezes.
The hotel is centrally situated near the beach (200m) and the town square (300m) with several small stores and many little restaurants nearby. Bring earplugs to sleep because an open air restaurant across the street is quite noisy at night.
Simple accommodation with kitchenette, the basics are provided. Friendly and accommodating staff. Very clean. Central and on the beach, walking distance to bus station. Large pool and beach restaurant. On check-out day, I appreciated that I was able to store my luggage and continue staying in the common facilities until the evening. The receptionist Sylvia speaks English well and was very helpful. I only stayed one night.
No breakfast at this hotel. We weren't expecting it, so it was not an issue for us. Very good breakfast place right across the street- very handy and delicious food. The location of this hotel is perfect, and it's really the one redeeming feature of an otherwise two star facility. Beautiful beach and pool- right on the Malecon with many restaurants and shops nearby. Reasonably quiet, friendly cleaning staff.
Friendly hotel staff. Rooms are tiny, but clean, well-equipped and functional. Noise reverberates, but things quiet down early, and the staff enforce a no-noise code during night hours. After a delayed check-in, the rest of my stay was fine. Contact the hotel the day before arrival, and ask for the cell number in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Wow!! The best part of the beach is in front, the hotel is across the street from out favourite breakfast spot, and steps away from the bus station. Plus, the staff is incredible, ie: got us a coffee maker, let us safely store our bikes, etc. We're so happy that we booked here! Highly recommend it.
Exceptionally nice staff in hotel and restaurant. Was first given a windowless room, when I said no was given a large bedroom, kitchen, and bath, with windows. Very spacious and clean. Kitchen had a fridge and stovetop with some scratched up Teflon pans older than me. OK since I don't cook.
Old.hotel, dead roaches, recently fumigation and you could smell the chemicals in the pillows, they just fumigation and don't remove the pillows etc..then you are inhaling chemicals in the pillows. Big roaches. Pool is smaller than picture but well cleaned
Stayed here for three days between work assignments. The hotel and grounds are large with relatively few rooms for the space. The architecture takes one back to an earlier time. Lots of gardens, pool, sitting areas, very relaxing.
Spotlessly clean, meticulously maintained tasteful older hotel. Gorgeous, lush plants everywhere. Pretty Mexican tile and wood work. Unobstructed ocean view, yard not fenced in with bars like many other properties. Clean pool.
Las Arenas has the best location in Melaque. The staff are super friendly and it’s situated in the best spot on the beach. Rooms are rustic but they have everything you need. Pool is older but nice.
location and staff! Freddy, Lucy, Osi and Mombo are fantastic assets to the hotel...joyous and hard working. Hotel is kept impeccably clean by the staff as well
Karina who operates the office was wonderful. She is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful with questions.
