The room was amazing with the design of the rooms relating to time period of the Rutland Arms. Had plenty of room to walk around and the bed was very comfortable. The room was warm and at a good temperature. We ate in the restaurant for dinner, and it was great food. We had continental breakfast included which was so yummy and plenty that breakfast kept us going just about all day. Secure place to park your vehicle overnight too.

Whanganui is an ol'River Port town that still carries that ambience. If you were comparing ol'Paddle steamer towns with an Australia vs NZ type contest, you'd have an Ecucha Victoria or Morpeth NSW vs Whanganui match-up.
Whanganui has the ol'Paddle Steamer "Waimere" still in operation & a Waimere Steamer Museum. Don't miss out on the War Memorial Tower & look-out, it's a musta, you can even get an elevator there.
All the shops are here for the gals & of course the wife bought a new dress for the Whanganui Races. We spent 2 nights @ the Riverview Motel in a self contained Garden Unit, serenity abounds at this establishment, it's old but still gold.

Whanganui is a great place to visit.
Whanganui is a great place to visit. Friendly, great vibe, lots to see and do and not very expensive. I have never had a bad coffee there! Saturday market by the river is a must, as are the parks and gardens, a trip on the Waimarie, the tunnel and elevator, arts trail, beaches, bike trails, museum and restaurants. Heritage Weekend and Christmas Boxing Day are REALLY busy with a ton of stuff on. The Boatshed in Aramoho was our favourite restaurant this trip. Only negative in Whanganui is the AWFUL driving - and we are from Auckland!

The history of the city is clearly evident in the retention of a lot of charming century old buildings which have been carefully maintained on the outside with appropriate interior upgrades. A ride on the river steamboat and a unique in-ground lift which takes you from near sea level to the top of a hill suburb are other attractions.

Whanganui has a wealth of history.
Whanganui has a wealth of history. Like many modern day cities/towns around NZ, Whanganui had its hey day at the turn of the 1900s, and as the river became less important for transport and access, the local economy went into decline. However, many aspects of this affluent past have been preserved. Highlights for us included the trip aboard the paddle Steamer (1912 restored) Waimarie, taking the elevator to the top of Durie Hill and climbing the 176 steps to the top of the town's WW1 memorial.
Walking around Majestic Square and the modernist War Memorial Hall, made us feel transported to Brasilia, as this style of architecture was lauded by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
We attended The Whanganui Opera House's Repertory Theatre production of Titanic Letters which was a lovely finale to our stay here.

Great area, near beach and a nice little holiday park with good amenities. Swimming pool close to kitchen, BBQ and covered area with tables, fab for families. Our small accommodation looked like a playhouse from the outside with a veranda to sit on, but provided tv, shower, toilet, kitchenette and double bed. Fine for the 1 night we stayed.

Our church group members went to Whanganui, some stayed at Coachmans Lodge Motel and some stayed at Burwood Motel. We did not really going around Whanganui as we were there for an event for our church and we had our lunch and dinner at the church hall.
We find it very easy to get around Whanganui and we will visit other places next time we go there.
We really enjoyed our trip.
The Klein House is an amazing place to stay! We really enjoyed everything! Everything is super comfortable, feels really like a home away from home. Gus is baking rye sourdough bread and a lovely breakfast provision is in the fridge. Kitchen is well equipped. A choice of different teas, capsule machine, and should you be a pro even a proper espresso machine is available.
Well, we will be definitely be back! Thank you for providing such a cool space, guys!
Warm and cozy vintage character home. Comfortable bedroom with window seating. Spacious inviting living room. Classic bathroom with claw foot bathtub and cubby space under the sink. Decorative touches, porch seating, and a rare screen door for front door to let the air in without the pests.
Stacy was warm and friendly and provided a few fruits from her organic garden.
Would highly recommend.
Graeme was there to meet us and was friendly and helpful with a vast knowledge of the area and history around Whanganui. Loved the art and photos and all the interesting books. Comfy beds, well equipped with tea and coffee and extras like lollies and biscuits. Beautiful surroundings with old established trees with Tuis and Fantails. Gorgeous!
The accommodation was very comfortable, spacious, and has an excellent bathroom and good aircon.
The breakfast met our needs. Our host referenced the gate in the fence that led to Lake Virginia Park. We walked in the Park. It was delightful.
We would be happy to stay there again.
The room was spacious and easy to accommodate everyone when we all gathered in one room. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. Also liked the laundry facilities available for guests. The motel is laid out in such a way that you don't hear noises from other rooms.
Lovely host.
Comfortable, clean, and spacious room.
Ideal location as the property has access to a lake, which was a lovely walk.

This property is beautifully presented. It’s comfortable, homely with all mod cons. Super helpful owner with excellent information provided. Whanganui is a very special place and so is Smith House 🩷

I was pleasantly surprised by how nice and spacious the room was. It feels very lux considering you’re in little Whanganui (I’ve only recently moved away). I really liked the room and will be back!
