Taichung is kinda my hometown, the weather is nicer than Taipei and Kaoxiong. Life expense is a little cheaper than Taipei. It's easy to get to parks, shopping malls, very convenient for travelers to walk around either by buses or on foot.

Taichung has many great cultural places, entertainment and food is top notch as well!
Only down side is the that traveling around taichung is not so public transport friendly as it's so huge!
I did not get to go to quite a few other places with the days i spent there, will head back to continue exploring again!

I teach English to Taiwanese adults and was fortunate to have two of my students (on different days) take me to places they wanted to show me. I think there are many interesting places to visit in Taichung.
Since I was in a car with locals, I can't really say what the public transport is like, but from my view, it seemed like there are buses and metro trains everywhere.

The National Theatre is an amazing building to see, look for the "nose", the "eye" and the "ear", as well as the facial profiles in the butterfly pictures on the walls on 1/F.
Miyahara Ophthalmology clinic is another place to visit in Taichung.

Its a city in transition i want to visit it in 5 years or so again to see where it's at. But probably won't stop here again till then, nothing any other city doesn't offer.
WIth that said..... great place to do a day trip for specific things...
If you have 2 days to spare visit and plan your day so you won't waste time. Restaurants open late, they definitely move at a different speed with many places closed Wed.
If you are vegetarian or vegan great places to eat here. Do Uber eat my Taiwanese friend used it all the time.
Great Museum and right next to the museum don't forget to eat at the restaurant the home of where boba tea was created. If you're into boba its a must-go!

Taichung is a less westernized city than Taipei.
Taichung is a less westernized city than Taipei. What I like is the stimulation brought by different cultures, rather than the standard plagiarism and imitation. I don’t think other cities are better than Taichung.
I loved the friendly staff, the friendly backpackers.
The common room was always lively around 6pm till really late and very easy to meet new people everyday. As well as making friends with long-term stay backpackers. I did many activities with those new friends and got recommendations from the staff!
Rather calm during the day, you can work here or on the 6th floor.
It was very clean in the room, in the restrooms sometimes not as much but it was still good.
I loved that the 7/11 was really opposite, it can't be closer.
Location: Near Taichung Train Station, Ubus station, Taroko mall, Taiwan Bank, hair salon and bento box place where you can have whatever Taiwanese cuisine you like.
Room : It was clean and comfy. Old but well maintained
Breakfast: It was great and lots of varieties. If the management can add few seasonal fruits that would be great. I stayed there for 7 days, if they can alternate some of the dish like the cabbage and bean sprout with other veggie dish every other day would be great too.
Excellent value for money. Got a double room including breakfast for two just over 1600nt. The room was nice and comfy, despite some broken tiles in the bathroom. Breakfast was nice, better than in many other hotels in Taiwan. Liked the location, across the river there are many bars, which was nice as we arrived late and wanted to find a place to chill with couple of drinks.
Hotel is clean and comfortable. Choose a room with washing machine for the convenience. Would be good if there is a little rack to dry our laundry. All other room types can use the coin laundry available at each floor. Water dispenser also available.
Hotel located at a quiet street. Walking distance to taichung train station.
Breakfast was simple.
I have no idea why the rating for this hotel isn't higher. This hotel seems to have been undergoing some renovations lately, so perhaps the reviews are of the older rooms. Our room was clean, spacious and perfectly priced in a sea of ridiculously overpriced options. Location is perfect. Would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Taichung.
didn't purchase breakfast from hotel, so don't know how was it ... the reception lady was not much friendly, room is ok to stay as per the price and location is good enough. parking is not provided but nearby many parking lots available. after all its a good experience to stay, maybe next time will consider to stay if visit Taichung again
Hotel was super close to Taichung train station. Walking distance to second market. Rooms were spacious and look like they were renovated recently (compared to the last time we were there). There were water dispensers on every floor which was very convenient. Price is good for the location and size of the room!
The location was fantastic being right next to the Taichung railway station; the hotel was easy to find and we didn't have to walk far with our luggage to get to it. The hotel had coin laundry facility so it was helpful to have our clothes washed during our stay.
Absolutely loved my stay here. Staff were friendly, location was great and the room was perfect. The staff helped me organise a third party company to come and do my laundry which was a bonus. Way better than a lot of more expensive hotels I've stayed in.
The location is very good. It's near the National Taiwan Art Museum and there are plenty of Ubike stations around. Perfect for people who want to explore Taichung! We also enjoyed the breakfast at hotel at lot. Plenty of options of food!
bed and pillows were really really comfy, room bright and clean, and so close to the station! the tv sound system was really good as well.. love it! Definitely the best hotel I've stayed in during my entire trip in Taiwan!
The hotel room size is what I liked and the whole place make me feel so homely. The staffs are always friendly and location is superb good walking distance to Taichung Railway Station. Nearby have malls and many eateries.
Very convenient, the taichung train station is just opposite the hotel.
Food are available around the hotel and there is a 24-hour 7/11 just beside the hotel.
The employees are polite and helpful.
It was convenient spot, there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel. Lots of places to eat nearby. The Taichung mrt station was only around 5 min walk away. The hotel was clean and comfortable.
There is a great transportation-friendly location near Taichung train station. The hotel is exceptionally clean👍👍, and they offer complimentary coffee and breakfast for your enjoyment.
Kiwi Express Hotel is located close to many convenience stores, small shops, and the Taichung park. We enjoyed our stay and wondered around at night. The beds are super comfortable.
Large room, comfortable bed, the staffs were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is not far from Taichung Railway Station so it was easy for transportation.
Room was super clean!
Common area in level 12 has good snacks, tea and coffee. The view was the best part as the hotel is in front of Taichung station.
