Sorrento is everything you want Naples to be amd isn't. Sorrento and Capri are Naples's or Campania's redeeming graces. What a wonderful little place this sorrento! Walk around, get lost, talk to locals, head for sunset to a lookout point... i mean. Do everything you can't do in Naploes w/o getting robbed.
Salerno is the capital of the Campania Region and is not hailed as a tourist town but we loved it the people the food and the walks were amazing the evenings walking in the main shopping area and along the shore were beautiful . There is also a lot of history museums and lovely churches
Naples is a very nice city, I liked everything, I suggest Naples to everyone. Buy the artecard tutte region if you want to explore the city and its surroundings, like Pompei ruins and Amalfi coast. It was a very good value for money, you can use all public transportation in the Campania, as well as visit Pompei and the National Archeological museum for free, and enjoy one day on the Amalfi Coast using the public transportation for free with your artecard. It was an amazing adventure.
The city itself has a lot to offer and I didn't find is as dangerous as many tend to describe it. For me the real nuisance were the extremely impolite /even rude waiters. Maybe that's their disctinctive sign as in other cities in Campania they are friendly.
Excellent base for exploring the Bay of Naples and getting a taste of the Amalfi Coast with Sorrento - even if it's not quite on the actual Amalfi Coast itself. If you intend on seeing the real Italy, Pompei, Herculaneum and the picturesque setting of Sorrento Napoli is the best base for that if you have 3 or 4 days in the region. Antica Pizza Di'Michele is the best pizza restaurant i the world. Naples itself is walkable if not a bit hilly. Recommend the Campania Arte card if possible.
Great city. Not so dangerous as we thought about definitely not proposed to hire a car if you want to stay in Naples. Parking is very difficult and not very safe. We used the public transport need to be a little bit more careful in the train Circumvezuviana but even if it is more expensive use Campania Express for visiting Sorento Pompei and Ercolano. Great History we loved it!
Herculaneum, Pompeii and the Archealogical Museum are amazing! There is a tourist train to Herculaneum and Pompeii called the 'Campania Express' - would highly recommend this over the local trains. The historical centre of Naples would be nice to walk around if there weren't so many scooters and cars whizzing through. The castles are ok, but they are mostly taken up with offices. Castle dell'ovo has free access with views along both sides of the bay. Taxis are usually on a tariff but you can ask for the meter. We didn't have any problems with taxi drivers. Great for 3 or 4 nights, don't stay any longer than this.
We LOVED Positano! We spent the last two days of our week long tour of the Campania region there. It was the perfect way to end our vacation...relaxing in the sun, eating delicious seafood and soaking in the warm, friendly atmosphere of this gorgeous city. We ate dinner at Ristorante Il Ritrovo in Montepertuso (up on the mountain overlooking the sea). They sent a shuttle to pick us up from our hotel at no charge to make our dinner reservation. They also brought us back after dinner. It was great. You do not want to drive in or around Positano once you are there. The streets are very narrow and can be down right scary at times to maneuver. It is very easy to walk around Positano and is a must to make your own discoveries of quaint little shops and restaurants. We went at the end of April before tourist season was in full swing. Go, you will not be disappointed.
We finished our Italian honeymoon in Sorrento, having been to Florence and Venice in the days prior. Sorrento had by far the best food of the three locations and was certainly more affordable! A beautiful and compact town, you can walk the full width of the town center and back again in 2-3 miles along flat streets. We loved the spectacular views, the old buildings, and quaint little shops selling all sorts of souvenirs - including local ceramics, award winning dried pasta and herbs to take back home and relive the wonderful tastes of Sorrento. We were fascinated to see orange trees lining the streets of the Corso Italia, the main street! The drive in from Naples train station or airport is beautiful once you leave the city. I would recommend using a transfer service, rather than hiring a car in order to enjoy the views and also because the roads are so narrow and require a level of concentration that UK and Irish drivers are not be used to! Sorrento is brilliant base for further exploring the Amalfi coast, with many tours by bus, train and boat available in the town. You must see Pompeii - train ride away from Sorrento (take the Campania Express service - it's quicker and air conditioned). If you require gluten free food, you might imagine Italy to be a no-go. Sorrento has got you covered! Our hotel (Grand Hotel Royal) was superb and accommodating for GF needs, and the Foreigner's Club restaurant overlooking the sea in the centre of the town has a comprehensive menu certified by the official Coeliac association in Italy that even included GF chocolate tart and profiteroles.
We chose this hotel because it was close to the train station (we came up from Naples by train), the Royal Palace (our main reason for visiting Caserta), and car rental outlets (we left in a rental car to visit the Campanian wine country. We were perfectly satisfied with our choice, the location perfect for our needs as well as being close to the centre of town (for window shopping) and good restaurants (there is an in-house restaurant, but we ate dinner elsewhere). The room was comfortable and well appointed.
Pompei
The location is fantastic. Waking distance from the Pompeii ruins and top Michelin star restaurants. Great place to have your home base to see the attractions in Campania like Mt. Vesuvius, Herculaneum Ruins, and Naples. Host is amazing for this property. Giovanni made us feel right at home and was very knowledgeable about the area, restaurants and attractions. Train is also within walking distance to get around the area. Apartment is perfect for a couple or a small family (we had 4 of us).
Ercolano
Everything was clean, no problem with facilities whatsoever. Bed was comfy enough, common areas served their purpose. It's very refreshing to talk with like-minded people on the roof terrace to conclude a day of exploring the area. The beach - public and private - is a 5 minute walk from the hostel, two restaurants are 2 minutes' distance away as well. Staff were the nicest people, had great fun and would totally recommend to anyone travelling in Campania.
Clean, large space. Location provides handy access to all the major destinations in and around Campania (it’s about a 15 minute walk uphill from the ferry dock) without the crowds, etc. Access to hotel resources (vs asking a landlord) was a plus (e.g. fresh beach towels). Hotel staff was very friendly. Any needs we had were almost always addressed promptly.
Boscoreale
This flat is just everything You need during a stay in Campania. It is located close to the train station and there are many shop, bars and restaurants in the vicinity. Our host was very welcoming and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay here, had a great time and would recommend to anyone looking for a place for their holidays in Italy.
Very cute hotel with spacious rooms, located in a nice garden. Staff was friendly and helpfull. Perfect basecamp to explore the whole of campania with the station nearby. Although limited, they do provide vegan, lactose free and glutenfree breakfast options if you request it.
Battipaglia
Nice apartment amid Campania in a quiet neighborhood between town and beaches. Of adequate size, clean, well equipped. The owner is exceptionally helpful and ready to provide assistance if necessary. Great base for trips around with adequate beaches few minutes away by car.
Massa Lubrense
Villa Edera is a little slice of heaven in Campania.. we cannot explain how much we loved our stay here. The view is exceptional, the quality of the hotel and service is top end luxury and the staff could not have been more wonderful. We will be back!
Hotel Poseidon is on very good location for investigating Campania what was our goal. Very charming lady on reception organised all visities for us trough HP Italy agency. We sow Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Vezuvio and Pompei. It was amazing
We always stop here when we are in Campania. The hotel is very clean, comfortable, nice rooms with very good breakfast & secure parking garage. The staff are very nice and helpful Another plus is the Vulcanobuono shopping mall.
Castellammare di Stabia
Spacious, bright, and centrally located apartment. Strategic position to relax in Castellammare and visit Naples, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, and other attractions in Campania.
An entire apartment in a house, parking space and everything you need to explore the Campania / Pompeii area. Always hot water and equipped kitchen. Very nice place.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Roomy accommodation.Giod beach. Nice walk into town . Good location for exploring Campania.
Gorgeous resort, wonderful spa, terrific staff, great breakfast
Lovely staff, nice facilities. An event happening every day made for an interesting stay, but great fun to watch! Overall a lovely place to stay.
Perfect spot in quiet San Marco. Staff were wonderful. Beach was great and breakfast really delicious. Our room was spacious. The air con couldn’t keep up with the heat which meant sleeping was a bit difficult. But the hotel was really lovely.
Amazing view ! charming hotel. everything was wonderful
I absolutely loved this hotel the scenery from the balcony was so unbelievable. It was a short walk from the beach that wasn’t too crowded as compared to Positano. The staff were so nice and helpful always communicated effectively over WhatsApp anytime I needed anything. Even when arriving at meta station there was no Ubers and they sent for a driver immediately. The room and bed was outrageously comfortable and clean I think I can live there forever. The view is literally a billion dollar view.
pool, catamarans, ping pong, animation, atmosphere
The barman was great. very good service!
