Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyRooms are dirty and never cleaned up with care, same for the room's bathroom, the bed is really uncomfortable, the mattress is old, bumpy, stained and it doesn't even have a mattress cover on it, moreover they never change the linen unless you ask for it (and you change them by yourself). No bed light, no wi-fi in the room, no drawers or wardrobe or at least something where you can store your belongings and lock them. The kitchen is quite small, fridges are dirty (they just throw away unlabeled food twice per month, without cleaning up). The reception is open just a few hours in the morning and in the afternoon, and everything is badly organised. Icing on the cake, it's pretty expensive (but still cheaper than Tequila or YHA, that's the only reason why people keep choosing it).
Nice common area and balcony area with BBQ, other guests were pretty nice, my room had its own air conditioning system (old but working well), there's a small parking lot (4 cars) and the manager tried her best to fix all the problems the hostel has.

United States-Not the cleanest hostel. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't good either. -There weren't enough outlets for everyone in the room. -only one stove, one toaster, and one kettle in the kitchen. -showers were lukewarm and had low pressure.
-There is parking, but it's only two or three spots and it's first come, first serve. -The beds are OK. It's just a large piece of foam, but it was thick enough not to feel the bars of the bed.

AustraliaVery dirty, tiny kitchen so never any room to cook, only about 2 toilets for the whole hostel and all the facilities were filthy. Never seemed to be anyone cleaning anything and only one poor person on reception/attempting to clean
Very small hostel, mostly long termers all super friendly and sociable. Good location in town centre, cheapest accommodation in Adelaide so although still relatively expensive I suppose you get what you pay for.

IndiaThere could be a whatsapp number provided for guests checking in late otherwise seeing a locked door for a foreign guest is confusing and then he or she cannot call a Australia number with their own mobile number. I was lucky that the Reception girl had heard me knocking at the door. Also need clear updates by Booking dot com messaging service as to how to check in and how to reach the hostel. The kitchen pantry area is quite messed up and dirty as most of the crockery and cutlery lies unwashed in the sink. Need to provide at least coffee/ tea and basic breakfast like bread and butter and cereal for guests.
Travelling to Adelaide Traveller's Inn Backpackers' Hostel was quite comfortable even though took some time. The Adelaide Bus Drivers were quite helpful. The Room was good and comfortable and there was a supermarket next door and a pub close by and a Cathedral within walkable distance. The guests in the hostel were great.

ThailandThe fact that no one has vacuumed the air vent in the bathroom in forever That the cracks to the drain in the sink were so mouldy it made us gag when we brushed our teeth The lock not working to the door. They attempted to fix but it didn't end up working.
The feel of the place was positive and fun. I personally enjoyed the higgledy piggeldy-ness if the building and took me right back to my days working in a backpackers in UK

AustraliaAt $30 per night U don't expect a palace, it's a worn old place but the cleanliness of carpets, floors, dusting, bathroom floors etc could improve with more frequency of cleaning & attention to detail.
Receptionist was very helpful with info. Re buses to WOMAD & nice. I got fantastic sleep every night in a 6bed mixed form, no noise from outside or within. Was it that the many French travellers there just considerate people?

AustraliaAs much as I liked the friendly vibe, the place wasn't clean at all. There was a little blood stain on my bedsheet, once the toilet was clogged with someone's poop, there were uncovered sanitary napkins in the room bin which was too gross
The location is good, staff is super friendly, the hostel cat is so great!

United KingdomThere wasn't a lot of organisation, we didn't know who was in charge as a lot of the people who stay there have stayed there for a long time, and they took charge of the place. Apparently the manager was arrested a couple weeks before we stayed. There's a tiny kitchen, with one sink, one stove and no windows, so it was hard cooking as it was filled with people and got very hot quickly. The location was also pretty far from the city centre, we ended up moving to another hostel that was close and better managed.
You can use herbs that grow in the back for free for your food. There was a TV and game boards downstairs for entertainment, and a massive balcony upstairs. Not too expensive so worth the price.

GermanyI didn’t like the cleanliness in the room including the bed sheets and the floor and facilities in the bathroom! More space in the room, shelfs and/or lockers to lock my stuff and valuables would have been helpful. In addition it could have been a nicer light in the room as there is only one bright ceiling light but no individual bedside light. The Wi-Fi was really bad. No access in the rooms, but even in the lounges it didn’t work stable. For me the stay was okay for one night, but I wouldn’t have felt there comfortable for longer.
The staff was so kind and helpful! They showed me around, connected me with other travellers, were very very friendly and were quite interested in me. It was easy to book and to check in as it was even possible to have access to the room earlier as agreed. The hostel is easy to reach, busses to city and the beach are nearby and many cafes are around. There is a lot of free food to use in the kitchen (e.g. seasonings, oils).
