How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Location - a reasonable distance to walk to restaurants for dinner.
Large room, comfortable bed, renovated bathroom. Quiet. Continental breakfast was adequate. Able to leave luggage and sit in reception - library much appreciated.

Breakfast needs to be full English as well as continental. Also hand sanitizer needs to be available in the dining room. Not able to dine outside due to the pigeons. No smoke alarms in the room.
Great location, room basic but very clean. Beds were comfortable.

It was a bit restless and noisy at night. In any case, the Hotel had kindly put earplugs on the bedside table.

Maybe take the bath out and just put a shower in as it was a bit difficult for older people to get out of the bath
The property was in walking distance of a lot of things, the staff were very friendly and it had everything we needed.

All good.
Hotel was very clean. I had asked for a ground floor room as there is no lift. We were given the mobility room with a huge walk in shower room. The breakfast was good, cereal, eggs, toast, fruit, cakes. It was a 20 min walk to the ferry terminal. The tour buses picked up on the next street.

Some areas, shower & bathroom floor, could do with a good scrub. But no complaints. It was clean & maintained.
Staff were very nice. Especially Helen on reception. Lovely warm smile & great knowledge of how to get to some of the great things to see. Decent breakfast for a fair price.

An older style accomodation but recently refurbished rooms. At times a little noisy primarily because of the tiled internal walkways.
For the price, I was surprised by the great 'feel' of the place. Yes it is older, but it is well designed and made for holidaying. The rooms have been refurbished and were comfortable. Loved the balcony. Staff were friendly. A little bit further away from the town centre, but the walk did me good.

The staff were very helpful. When they realised I struggled with my luggage, they carried it for me. They rang to check when I was leaving so they could help me down.

If you have any mobility issues, it’s worth knowing that the suites are on the upper floors, and there’s no lift. The in house breakfast was pretty basic, though ok value for the $18 we paid. There seems to have been no thought for noise mitigation in the breakfast room. Tiled floors, hard tables, and a lot of clashing plate noises from the kitchen; the overall volume was almost unbearable at times.
We stayed at Coral Tree for four nights over a 10 day period, in 3 separate stays. During the first stay, we were in a basic double room on the ground floor, which was fine - comfortable bed, smallish room but fine for a short stay. The next two (single night) stays, we were given complimentary upgrades to suites. These rooms were a definite step up from the first room - much bigger in terms of floor space, and some basic kitchen/cooking facilities. The location was convenient for us - easy to walk to the esplanade and a range of cafes and restaurants. The pool looked great - but I didn’t have time to try it out, sadly! There were ear plugs provided by the hotel in each room - but we found it to be a quiet place to stay and didn’t need them.

A lift would be useful.
Helpful checkin staff, carried wife's suitcase up the stairs. Earplugs provided at bedside (but not needed)

We were a bit further from the Cairns attractions than would have been ideal.
The staff were really helpful. A good breakfast was included, with plenty of choice.

It was quite noisy when people were closing their doors, quite irritating in the middle of the night. This is the first hotel I have stayed at where they supply earplugs, so that should have told us something.
A great location for walking to the esplanade in Cairns. Lots of places to eat nearby. The staff were awesome & very welcoming, helping us to book an excursion we had been considering.

There was no lift. We were on the second floor, so I had to carry suitcases up the stairs. There is also a third floor.
The staff were great and very helpful. The room was very clean. Plenty of places nearby to eat at.
