Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomToo much furniture in the room made it feel a bit cramped. Taking a couple of unnecessary pieces out of the room would have made it perfect but I get that other guests may have other preferences.
Great location for walking into Brighton, warm friendly welcome, nicely decorated room.

United KingdomWalls too thin and some guests too noisy. Experienced a lot of noise from other guests which had woken us up each night. We were on the top floor and it was a bit of a struggle carrying luggage up several flights of stairs. Flooring on top room was very uneven , 1 bed was at a slant due to this. Not ideal but might just be because it’s an old building.
Good location, quiet neighbourhood. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms cleaned each day and fully equipped with everything you need.

United KingdomA rude staff member with tick glasses and a earpiece approached us in the lobby with no friendly manners whatsoever. We were having a meeting and decided to buy some snacks from the nearby supermarket (grapes, nuts, a pack of crisps) and a coffee from Starbucks. They came saying that it’s not good to bring food into a restaurant and they make coffee in their bar (?!?!). There’s no way you can even think that they would serve any sort of food in that lobby. No food menus whatsoever, not on the tables nor anywhere else. And sorry if we went for a Starbucks coffee, rather than your Nespresso machine (!!!). Anyway, this guy might also be somehow right, but they clearly lack of customer service as there are much better ways to approach paying guests who chose your hotel, over thousands in town. They turned a potential promoter into a passive customer. Well done!
Good location and very welcoming staff. The Spanish girl at the check in (sorry forgot the name), was very welcoming and clearly explained all we needed to know.

United KingdomWe had a deluxe room with a sea view, we were on the ground floor, I wouldn't really call it a sea view as you could only see it if you looked out the side of the window, the main view was looking over a small enclosed park with other houses/hotels behind that, I thought that was a bit misleading
Our beds were very comfortable, and the room was clean, the breakfast was very good, the location was ok

United KingdomThe room was quite warm - even without the heating on - but opening the window meant noise levels. However, with a rolled up towel keeping the window open a little bit, all was ok. Price of parking but that is common in this area - parking on the street outside after 8pm and before 9am, is free, so that might be something to plan around.
I was seen very quickly at check in. Breakfast was wonderful. Staff were very kind and efficient.

United KingdomI would have asked for a room that wasn't on the top floor. As a six footer, I managed to bump my head slightly a couple of times navigating the stairwell and also the right hand side of the room where the roof slants. Slightly puzzled also that the window didn't open or where ventilation came from. Still the room was not stuffy. However, if you have mobility issues or are taller than average, ask for that to be considered when you make a booking.
I had stayed at New Steine once before pre-COVID before it was refurbished and it was an average experience. The refurbishments since as advertised on Trip Advisor, as well as the location, encouraged me to give it another chance. Generally I had no complaints - was able to check in about 20 minutes early, shown room personally by busy desk staff. Pretty much as advertised, room was freshly painted, clean, toiletries, bedding look new stylish, etc. Easy wif-fi. Small desk, handy closet, etc. Generally, good value for a booking made early that morning via Booking.com and location was very close to a friends and also venues like the Barley Mow as well as the Lanes and Pier. Looked like breakfast was good and perhaps a future visit, I will check that out. Keys were easy to use. No combo to remember/write down or take a picture of.
