How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

We didn't have breakfast it wasn't included in our booking. There were several signs about happy hour etc none of which were on.

The shampoo/shower gel dispenser on the wall in the shower was empty and so we had to wash hair using tiny bar of soap provided which wasn’t ideal.
Close to beach, and open air theatre (which was reason for our stay)

We have been coming to the Clifton for 20 years, sometimes 2 or 3 times per year. But this year the standard of food was the worst we have had.

The hotel sadly is showing its age and needs a refit. The staff were worldweary or just not interested.
Location was good and the room was clean. Good bar food once all 4 of us chose something from the short menu which was actually ‘on’ that evening,

Breakfast was awful. Low grade food eg watery tinned tomatoes and tasteless tinned mushrooms, cheap bread. Hash browns were hard and greasy. There were no alternative options to meat sausage and bacon for vegetarians or vegans. There was also no alternative to butter such as sunflower spread so as I can't eat butter ended up with dry toast. After experiencing one breakfast we requested a refund on our breakfasts for the rest of the stay and we went out to a local cafe instead. There was no housekeeping due to 'covd' which made no sense whatsoever. We had no clean towels or cleaning of the bathroom or room for our 4 day stay. The whole idea of staying in a hotel as opposed to an appartment is to be looked after and it should have been made clear on booking that there is no housekeeping.
Hotel in an excellent position with stunning views. It was clean and comfortable.

Kettle had to be placed on the floor as the lead wasn’t long enough to reach which reduced safety.

The whole hotel needs updating or a lick of paint...my bathroom was grubby and would not have a bath or shower whilst staying here ..bin not emptied..double bed was two singles pushed together very uncomfortable and one pillow each no wifi in rooms didnt really like breakfast cheap sausages..tables next to others not much social distancing and a member of staff hovering around to take used plates etc away

Booked a double for myself and husband. Given twin room on arrival. Offered double but with no window! Finally felt we had to accept small twin room with window- would have been a great room for teenagers but not for us elderlies. Exceedingly small ensuite- had to step outside into the room to dry myself. TV could only be viewed from the bed, or sideways from a chair at the door. Carpet needed a really good vacuum clean. Provided only with two bath towels and one plastic cup. No toiletries or even a small bar of soap. Dirty smeared window. Very unhappy with the room. Breakfast was unappealling. Basic cereals, Overcooked eggs. Bacon bits in a watery liquid, chopped tomatoes, canned mushrooms. Rest of hot stuff ok. White or brown sliced bread for toasting. Strawberry jam or marmalade only. Some fruit- grapefruit/oranges and plain yoghurt. There is a small lift -rather dated and scruffy. Felt unhappy using it but too many stairs.
Location good. Pleasant hotel. Private researvable Parking (£6 per night). Decent hostess tray with newish kettle, two cups and tea)coffee pack- although only four milk capsules. Decent hairdryer and handy socket to plug it in. Two mirrors. Single beds fairly comfortable but only one pillow provided. Two (upright) chairs- not good for relaxing.

The hotel could do with a refurbishment as the windows were dirty on the outside as well as the carpet coming up in the halls

CLEAN! the rooms were visibly neat and clean but there was dust everywhere! Quick wipe down will sort it, you don’t get any shampoo or shower gel ? Only soap which isn’t the best for people like me who forget to bring some as I’m use to hotels providing them!
Lovely rooms! Very big and comfy, was a nice welcoming from reception all the staff were lovely and chatty! Loved the sea view too!!
