Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyCleaning standards are very poor, both where the beds are and in the bathroom. Location is not ideal as you have to go to the station to go anywhere and it’s a good 15 minute walk from the hostel.

AustraliaI noticed that the bathroom wasn’t cleaned each day. I wonder whether slippers are an excuse not to clean floors every day in Japan. Oh that’s right the worst thing was not having any light in the morning - not until 10am! That is really unacceptable. There is no justification for this. People are in their capsules and would not be disturbed by others turning the light in when they get up in the morning and then there was no one around to raise this issue with.
The main thing was that everything was in the same floor and not far away. Yea it was a small compact hostel but for me it was well laid out. It was good to have that centre table and chairs which facilitated communication between guests and gave us an alternative to our capsules. I can’t really remember how well I slept but it was a big issue for me throughout my trip so perhaps it was ok in this hostel. The location was good in the respect that it had that wonderful little shopping mall nearby but it wasn’t in the metro line and with my metro pass I found I had to buy an extra ticket. Not a big deal though.

Czech RepublicVery kind and fun staff, explained everything and it felt like talking to an old friend. This hostel is really cool and you can feel at home here. It's not very isolated from sound so if you have a light sleep you might wake up in the morning from some noises but the nights are always quiet and dark enough to get a good night's sleep. The hostel has a friendly atmosphere with dining table in the middle that can serve well to make new friends and exchange traveling experiences

The beds and the kitchen/ reception are all in the same room which really encouraged socialising - personally I loved this aspect! Staff are lovely and very down to earth.

United KingdomSocial vibe was missing but I think that’s common in Tokyo hostels, also have to pay 100 yen for a shower which I hadn’t realised (probably my fault) not much money but had to make sure I had the coins each day! Also communication, when messaging, staff were lovely, but sometimes it took a very long time to get a response and was a bit confusing
Location is great, very comfy and private beds, and very clean could definitely stay here a long time.

ThailandCommon area like the table is in the middle of the same room with bed bunks. So the smell is a bit disturbance and peoples talk in common area is quite disturbance. It's perfect place for traveling purpose. But if you expected a place to rest peacfully, please consider the thing I mentioned.
The atmosphere was good. Staff was very nice. Bed was so comfortable. It's near bus stop and convinience store. Good wifi connection.

New ZealandThe common shared space and the bunks are all in one room and the bunks only have a material curtain at one end which lets in a lot of light and noise. Wasn't very clean or tidy with dirty plates left on the table and luggage everywhere.
Great value for money and a nice location 10min walk from Shin-koiwa train station and close proximity to restaurants, bars and convenience stores.

Germany* You have to pay for the shower. * Everything is in the same room: beds, tables to work or eat at and sink to wash hands etc.) * No possibility to cook meals (but there are some dishes, as well as kettle and microwave!)
* convenient location (close to station, but a little far out) * By far the cheapest price! * lockers available. It is fine for a few days considering the cheap price! You get what you pay for.

JapanThe location was also a bit out of the way, and I was disappointed there were no bed sheets or comforter (but that might just have been because it was summer when I went).
The value for the price was super worth it. It was definitely a very simple, barebones kind of experience, but it had everything I needed (a bed and a shower), it was clean, and the staff was very friendly.
