Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaEven though it is a non smoking guesthouse, there was definitely someone smoking as the smell was extremely strong some nights. Also my dorm bed was by a window that was extremely bright throughout the night, which necessitated an eye mask.
Staff were exceptional: friendly, helpful, travellers themselves and welcoming. Liked having a common room to meet travellers and chat over coffee and treats. Area is quiet with a variety of restaurants and shops.

United KingdomI caught my thumb on the lock of a toilet stall which caused it to bleed but I had plasters on hand. Those toilet stall doors are VERY stiff to open and close!
It was a GOOD location because you have the train station 2 minutes away and it’s not too far from the airport. Plus I got to check in early which is a bonus, it meant I got to spend my last day in Tokyo without worrying!

NetherlandsI had an amazing stay here and highly recommend it to travellers on a budget! The staff, who all speak english, are incredibly kind and helpful, they really make the place feel like home. The dorm was quiet and had an ac and heater so the temperature was perfect. There is a women only bathroom and it was always clean. The location is great as it is only a 3 minute walk to the nearest station which connects to Shinagawa station, making it easy to access the rest of the city. You get more than you pay for and I'll definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Tokyo.

MacaoThere were charging docks/sockets near every bed in the dorm, but the socket near mine was already occupied by room lighting so it was hard to get my phone charged.
We stayed in a twin tatami room for the first night, which, unfortunately was unavailable the following night, so we changed to a single room and a bed in a 4-bed dorm. Both were cozy and had good lighting, which the tatami room was lacking in. The dorm room had sufficient space for placing suitcases (standing upwards), and a large desk. The bunk beds seem to be custom-made, maximizing the usage of space. There are a couple of small shelves next to each bed, individual lamps, hooks for hanging, and a small locker box for valuables. Note that bath towels are only provided for free for guests in private rooms, or dorm beds booked for consecutive nights (staying in a dorm for only one night does not include a free towel).

MacaoLighting in the room was rather dim. The inn has already been in business for a long time, so some interiors are a bit worn down. The building isn't soundproof, and most guests are not aware of this fact, especially when closing doors.
Very close to the Kitakanagawa Station and lots of shops around. Friendly English-speaking staff and plenty of tourist information provided. Sufficient heating and hot water supply, along with cozy futons. There are three shared bathrooms with showers and spacious changing area. Toaster oven, microwave, fridge and water kettle are free to use. Eating in rooms is allowed. Plenty of hanging space for clothes and towels in this room. There's a charging dock with 4 USB ports, and another socket for additional appliances. Usage guides for facilities are all written in English. A house blend coffee is provided for free in the morning, and also available as drip bags for purchase. The common area is only open 8:00-10:00 and 16:00-22:00. As a backpacker inn, there isn't much space for suitcases though.

United StatesClosing the common room for a chunk of the day was inconvenient. There is no easy place to talk with other guests when the common room is closed. Being a hostel/type guest house interacting with others is expected, but it would be nice is there was a common area open all day.
Staff is great. Room is exactly as advertised, small, but clean and comfortable. They had available hot water for tea/coffee, comfortable bedding. They even had rice ball making morning. They gave me an area map and were helpful with suggestions.

Its in a great little neighbourhood, close to the station. Family Mart next door and enough food options around. The staff were amazing. Super friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again if heading through Tokyo. Clothes washing facilities.

JapanI think better blinds would help guests have a better quality of sleep! I also think the quality of the stay also depends on the other guests on the property. My roommate was very considerate but the room next door kept going in and out of their room early in the morning, slamming their door every time.
Amazing location, friendly staff, cosy rooms!

TaiwanYou probably will feel noisy if you are distributed to a room next to the toilet.
Luggage can be kept at the lobby after 8 am. It's convenient for solo traveler. Shinagawa station is very closed to the guesthouse with only a 10 minutes walk. Or the North Shinagawa is another choice which is 2 minutes walk from this place. Staffs working in this guesthouse are all passionate and kind. They are good at English. All of them are bilingual (some of them are even trilingual since they can speak Chinese), so there’s no barrier for the conversations. The staffs gave me a map with suggested spots. Visitors can remain one day and follow the directions on it.

Spain- Stayed on the upper bunk bed but didn't have a plug near my bed to charge electronic devices, they are only on the table of the room but it was a little inconvenient for me. - No elevator: if you have big luggage, this point needs to be considered.
Friendly environment: little living area to gather with other guests. Everyone was so nice!

SpainThere was a constant noise which made it difficult to fall asleep, so it's better to use the earplugs (they have earplugs available at the reception). Besides, the toilet was a bit narrow, so it was a bit difficult to go to business.
The staff was really friendly and helpful, they recommended restaurants in the area, which is not very touristy, so you get in touch with the real Japanese culture. There's Shinagawa station in a 10 minute walk and the area has got some nice areas next to the sea, and very interesting historical sites.
