Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaLocation is excellent. Staff are great. Loved the bath facilities, room was spacious and comfortable, entire lodge is extremely clean. Staff were so helpful in guiding us to our next location and helped to organise transport.

AustraliaPerfectly located with easy acess to both the ski areas and the town. The gondola, ski hire, shops, restaurants, everything is a short, easy walk from the lodge. Awesome breakfast, wonderful staff. The room, beds and doonas were all incredibity comfortable. This is the perfect base for a skiing holiday to Nozawa Onsen.

United KingdomWarm and had everything you needed. Breakfast delicious. 5 minute walk to village and lots of onsens. 10 minute walk to slopes but if you rent skis you can leave them at the shop by the gondola on the slope so no need to lug skis back and forth.

AustraliaLocation was amazing, about a 5 minute walk to get to the key places we needed to be (ski lift, Onsen, main part of town). Lodge was very clean and it was nice to have the private bathroom, but we did end up going to the Onsens 3 out of 5 nights. Breakfast was good, varied selection and the beds/pillows were great. Will be coming back for sure.

AustraliaWhat I’ve seen on some reviews is people have stayed here with the expectation they are staying in a hotel, the rooms aren’t cleaned and fresh bedding put out each day - if this bothers you then you need to rethink your choices, you can make your own bed you know. Also there was a complaint about the Onsen… not sure why, was a little old but looked clean as to me! Also there is so many Onsens in town so you’re spoiled for choice really.
Friendly and super helpful staff! Great location, short walk up to gondola and down to the main town. Breakfast by the staff was a perfect way to start each big day.

AustraliaNot much to dislike about the lodge, I would try and return the next time I go to Nozawa. I would possibly avoid the shared bathroom if anything on my next trip.
Breakfast was buffet style and a great start to the day, rooms were a good size, bathroom was shared, but clean. It is a short walk into town and to the base of the gondola. The staff were accommodating.

Stayed for 12 nights in a western style room with shared bathroom.. Loved the staff and the breakfast. Location to the village and snowfields only 5 mins walk. Onsen and showers had nice pressure and hot water. Really relaxed feel about the place. Thanks Una for making us feel so welcome.

MalaysiaFriendly staff, cosy common areas, nice spread of breakfast from rice with furikake and miso soup to apple pancakes and sausages. Went during apple season and they provided free apples every day at the common room. Glad that Toemu has an onsen bath to soak after a day of skiing.

AustraliaDon’t expect new blingy facilities. It’s very modest but definitely worth the stay.
Toemu was a relaxed, comfortable lodge, friendly staff having a working holiday, good breakfast variety, ample sized rooms.

Australiahousekeeping could do with a lift - we were there 10 nights and requested it one day about halfway through but wasn't done. No biggie and didn't even raise it at the time.
Great location half way between main street and Nagasaka Gondola. Comfy beds. Super filling breakfast that kept me going the whole day on the slopes. Friendly and helpful staff.

AustraliaTowels are microfibre and don’t dry you after a shower. Luckily we brought our own towels!
Staff here are wonderful! We were collected from Nozawa Bus station in the snow and also driven back to Iyama at the end of our stay. We needed to stay an extra night which was no trouble to arrange. Breakfast buffet was huge!

AustraliaNo internet in the second room I booked for 3 nights. No body wash soap was supplied for onsen visits. The inconsistent bedroom ware, such as pillows and blankets in the second room. A bit more local knowledge from the non-Japanese staff. Lack of soundproofing in rooms.
Good cooked breakfast, a mix of western and Japanese style foods were available. The traditional style room was great but the western bed style room could have benefited with just futons on the tatami mats. Overall a quiet and respectful place.

New ZealandI wish we’d known about the ski rental discount offer earlier, as I’d already booked with another company before leaving for Japan. Shared toilet was fine and clean, but it would have been even nicer to have en suite.
This property felt like staying in a large ski lodge with the combination of private rooms and traditional Japanese elements. We were cozy, warm, could relax, play games, meet other guests or just relax in our own room. The room is large. The futons were the comfiest we had on our holiday in Japan. Henry and the staff team were extremely helpful and were always available for any question you may have. The shared bath facilities were good and had western style showers too, but there is also a mineral water onsen only around the corner which is wonderfully therapeutic after a days skiing. 10 min walk to everything: the slopes, the restaurants, the shops.

Hong KongSome staff were more professional than others. Cleaning was inconsistent, toilets often did not have toilet paper. They ran out of onsen towels one evening by 5pm. Room only had one plug.
Breakfast was great but delivery was inconsistent and chaotic at times due to the inexperienced and variation in staff professionalism. Wifi was great. The shuttle to the bus station was very appreciated as were the free apples.
