Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Puerto RicoLack of cleanliness, the place feels claustrophobic, no integration with nearby businesses (as an example I asked for a place to have breakfast and I was told to walk a few blocks but there was a greek bakery next door.)
Location, close to the Loop and in the middle of the Hellenic village

United KingdomI ended up with a problem, because the internet was not working, both on my phone and on my computer (- I've had no problems in other places, before and after.) I feel that for that number of beds more toilets should be provided. Of course, with an eight-bed room you take your chances with your room-mates. ;-)
The location is great, short walks from Union Station and from a stop of the Blue Line from/to O'Hare. Things are generally well organised, everything was as clean as can be expected. My third stay there, at least.

Austriathey charge 3$ for a towel! I payed nearly 50$ for the bed - there should be a towel included, in my opinion that is a total rip-off you couldn't lock the toilets! the outlets in the bathroom didn't work too many stairs and no elevator

New ZealandProperty needs a serious upgrade for sure, building is old, but looks like they're working on it on the 3rd floor. Small things like toilet locks were broken on my floor's bathroom. No actual kitchen just a kitchenette with microwave, kettle, fridge, some cups and plastic cutlery so be prepared if you're trying to stay for longer. No laundry. Some beds don't have comforters. Bad wifi. Extra charge for things like luggage storage and paying by card. For what they offered it was a bit expensive compared to other hostels.
Location is great, area is safe and has lots to do. Very close to downtown. Good staff and place gets cleaned every day.

United KingdomThere's no two ways of putting it, the place was a little grubby. But you manage your expectations going into a place like this, anyone who's expecting the ritz for 20 dollars a night needs a reality check
Location was great, staff were friendly and efficient, coffee in the mornings was nice, facilities were adequate, the behaviour and demeanour of the other guests... well, the hostel's not in control of that, but I felt safe enough despite a few fruity encounters with other travellers. All in all, it's a very good place to stay for the money.

United StatesOne would think that if the location is great and the room is fine I would be happy with my stay, but not quite. Everything else about the hostel was rather disappointing, especially after reading such raving reviews. First, the wifi was spotty, which is not great. I rarely got any signal from my bed, so I burned through my data. Second, while the room itself was clean, the bathrooms were not that clean. One of them flooded during my stay, and it was quite disgusting. Third, and I know that this sounds very nitpicking, but I arrived and had to wait around an hour and a half after check in for someone to change the sheets and finish my bed. While this would not have normally bothered me, the 3pm check in time should have given ample time to clean up, and I was very annoyed that the cleaning staff kept saying "5 minutes more" instead of just telling me to come back in an hour. Fourth, there is only one person at the lobby, which means long wait times to get your room if more than one guest is arriving. While the guy was pleasant enough, he was also constantly having to stop to answer the phone. Fifth, there were never any clean mugs, so I had to clean a dirty one under the bathroom sink in order to have some coffee. The previous three points lead me to believe that the place is seriously short staffed, which is not great in the service sector. Sixth, there was no kitchen sink during my stay, so people used the bathroom sink to wash the dishes (which is kind of gross). Seventh, the women's bathroom was noticeable better than the men's bathroom. What is up with that? And eighth, while the beds were comfortable, I still have two complaints about the room.
Ok so the two biggest pluses that I feel this hostel has are a) its location, and b) the rooms themselves. For the price, you just cannot get better located lodging. The west loop area is great, very close to the main attractions and there are a lot of great and cheap restaurants nearby (shoutout to the Velvet Taco, Philly's Best and Mr Greek Gyro!) Very walkable from the inner loop area, the north end and Grant Park. The room itself was also good, or at least as good as a 8-person room can be. The beds themselves were very comfortable, and I was lucky enough to have a wall plug right next to me.

MexicoThe location, is a little far from the principal atractions. I’m disapointed that they don’t have customer attention 24 hours i arrived a day begore at 2am and nobody responded. Something that i don’t really like was the bathroom is separate of the bedroom, also i would like that the place were you take the shower will have more privacity like a door that you can close
Well the place is accesible and nice, it’s cozy and makes you feel good, and people in the desk is very friendly and is very nice that they offert coffe and tea in the morning.
