If you want to get out of the city center/coast and experience genuine Maputo life for the everyday person then this is quite an experience. Mafalala is bustling with life day and night, there are people walking the alleys, all kinds of street vendors, mosques blaring, church sermons on the street down the street from bars playing Amapiano, a marketplace to buy coconuts and kids playing on a football field. All within a short walk of each other. Many people were friendly and said hello to me, I walked around alone, took some video footage and did go to the closest ATM. I had no problem, but the area has a bad reputation. I was told not to walk around after 10pm. Like many places in Africa you wouldn't want to have expensive items exposed. Then again the hostel was always ready to send me out with a staff member or even go and get anything for me. And within the hostel was safe. The area lays claim to the likes of Samora Machel and Joaquim Chissano, footballer Eusebio da Silva Ferreira, and poet Jose Craveirinha. The staff can arrange for someone to take you around for some kind of tip. Or there are paid tours by established companies. I got one of the cheaper rooms. For comfort I would get the larger room with bathroom next time. There was a window looking out over Mafalala. And from parts of the hostel you can get an elevated view looking over the neighborhood. There are nice art works around the premises. The area is a short and cheap ride to the city center with taxi app.

Maputo is beautiful, has the most beautiful islands. I am definately going back. this time around I am touring Bilene. Maputo City Centre, I dont like the fact that thier beach /ocean water is extremely dirty.

Pretty much still a developing city. Good restaurants abound but expensive by comparable standards. Overall a great visit. Taxis are plenty and it’s easy to get around. The beaches close to the hotel are not great although they are good for long walks - water is quite dark.

The Hotel is not safe even to walking around the area outside, The Hotel is located in a place with polluted beaches and no accessible transport. The hotel does not offer transport to the Mall or Airport. They didn't even have any brochures to see any tourist locations you can visited around the area. Taking a Taxi is a waste cause they charge what they want because it is not Controlled

Maputo is a vibrant, interesting and (by African standards) a really clean city to visit. There is a wide range of really good restaurants. We used taxis to get around or we walked (even at night in well lit areas) and we actually remarked on how good, professional and friendly every taxi driver was. They seem to have standardised fees so you don't get ripped off. We ate at the Dhow restaurant, a stunning vibey spot with exceptional food and cocktails and a good wine list. We had excellent, tasty Indian food at Pepper by Galaxy in the city centre. On our last night, we ate at Salt near the harbour. A chic, modern restaurant with delicious food. We also ate at Sagres, an institution in a stunning location. The prawn rissoles at Sagres are amazing...I would go there for these as a snack but would prefer to eat elsewhere. A visit to Maputo is special. A visit to the extremely clean fish market was interesting. Unfortunately we ran out of time but I would return to select our seafood and have one of the many local women cook and serve the meal at their little restaurant spots that are all around the fish market. Well worth a visit

Maputo is an excellent country to travel to.
Maputo is an excellent country to travel to. It has beaches that are just breath taking. As a foreign national you will experience challenges with the traffic officers/police, unfortunately you cannot avoid this. Besides that, it is an excellent country to visit.

The trip was short as I stand in nelspruit the directions that were given was up to standard the place was easy to find. On a arrival the manager was awaiting for us and made us feel at home immediately showed us to our rooms which was excellently decorated to our requests as it was a couple's weekend that we were on. We could not have asked for better, hospitality, friendliness and info on all the different local places that could be seen and things to be done. The food that we had was all local both and very nice.
