Group trips

When it comes to group holidays, some cities make reconnecting with old friends a little more special than others. So if you’re looking for the best places to catch up with loved ones, we’ve found some top picks for domestic group holidays recommended by UK travellers*.

London

London is home to endless activities for groups

It might seem like an obvious choice, but London has enough to keep groups entertained for weeks on end. Start the day off right with a tasty meal in one of the city’s many brunch spots, before unleashing your inner child at an adult ball pit or perfecting your front flips at a trampoline park. For something a bit more relaxed, try a mixology masterclass at a top London bar or stop by a food market to load up a hamper and enjoy it in one of London’s many parks. For some nightlife with a twist, hop aboard The Dutch Master – a two-storey party boat hosting a silent disco cruise along the Thames. Set up base at SACO Fitzrovia and make sure the trip continues to be a close-knit affair in your own apartment.

Liverpool

Explore Liverpool’s legendary musical heritage along Mathew Street

Crowned the European Capital of Culture in 2008, Liverpool is one of the best places in the UK for groups to tick off a fun-filled itinerary. Escape rooms are an excellent way for you and your pals to bond by evading a zombie apocalypse or pulling off a daring bank heist. Once you break out, get some much-needed refreshments down Mathew Street. This historic lane is best known for The Cavern Club where The Beatles played many times in their early career, and many of the bars here still host live bands playing songs from the Swinging Sixties. If you fancy a good old singalong together, drop by The Grapes pub for one of their famous karaoke nights. Still have energy to burn? The city is also home to laser tag games and a watersports centre where you and the gang can lark about in swan-shaped pedaloes or hop on a thrilling powerboat ride. Keep the fun going at the Hard Days Night Hotel – a Beatles-themed hotel with a cocktail bar and live music.

Manchester

Toast to your trip at one of the city’s renowned microbreweries

Often featured on lists of up-and-coming cities in years past, Manchester has now very much arrived on the scene as one of the best group getaway destinations in the UK. In recent years, Manchester has added a thriving craft beer scene to go along with its legendary art and music heritage. Take your mates along to a tasting session at local brewers like Cloudwater or Track Brewing Co. for some of the best beer in the city, if not the world. The Printworks also makes for a perfect group hangout spot, with nightclubs, restaurants and themed minigolf courses all in one place. If you feel the need for speed, race each other on the track at TeamSport Go Karting Manchester. When you’re all ready to call it a night, head home to Motel One Manchester-Piccadilly and grab a nightcap at the stylish lounge bar.

Edinburgh

Get lost in a maze of illusions at Camera Obscura

The Scottish capital will offer something for everyone in your group, whether its taking scenic hikes or sampling fine whisky in cosy bars. Even if you’re not the biggest fan of rambling, a trek up to Arthur’s Seat offers some of the best views of the city which make for a memorable group photo. After you’ve made it back down, treat yourself to a wee dram of Scotland’s national tipple during an interactive tour at The Scotch Whisky Experience. For an extra barrel of laughs, Camera Obscura’s five floors of optical illusions will keep you entertained for hours on end as you snap hilarious photos of each other in various silly poses. Round off the day by locking arms with your clan in a traditional Scottish dance-off at the Edinburgh Ceilidh Club. Afterwards, rest your weary legs back at Wilde Aparthotels by Staycity.

Blackpool

Blackpool’s promenade is filled with award-winning attractions for groups

Blackpool combines traditional seaside charm with endless activities for all ages. After a picturesque stroll along the promenade, take the crew for some thrill rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach – home to the famous rollercoaster known as ‘The Big One’ – as well as pantomime shows and souvenir shops. For evening entertainment, Blackpool’s legendary theatre shows never fail to disappoint. The iconic 'Funny Girls' cabaret show is a safe bet, but explore the Winter Gardens complex for a whole host of other top-notch performances and events. Afterwards, head back to the family-run Bamford House Hotel, a stone’s throw from the promenade.

Birmingham

The Curry Mile is famous for being the birthplace of the Balti dish

As the city that gave us the Balti curry and Black Sabbath, it’s no surprise that Birmingham is regarded as a popular spot for groups to come and enjoy stellar food and nightlife. In recent years, the city gained worldwide notoriety as the location of the hit TV show 'Peaky Blinders'. Take your own gang on a tour around the city to learn all about the real-life Peaky Blinders who terrorised the streets in the 1920s. As you’re sure to have a few foodies among you, wander down the famous ‘Curry Mile’ to treat your tastebuds to a Birmingham Balti. If you’re after something sweet, then a visit to Cadbury World is just the ticket. This chocolatey paradise features a 4D cinema experience, an exhibition on how chocolate is made and of course – plenty of tastings! Enjoy the freedom of your own apartment at Staybridge Suites Birmingham and start each day with a complimentary buffet breakfast.
