Mt. Namsan, located in the south of downtown Gyeongju City, has been listed as a national park of Korea since 1968 and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. The mountain is known to have over 700 ancient relics and cultural attractions including 13 royal tombs, 150 temple sites, 130 stone Buddha statues and carvings, 100 stone pagodas, 22 stone lanterns, and 4 fortresses from the Silla Kingdom (57BCE – 935CE). Exploring the entire mountain can be a lifelong project, but you can get a better, real glimpse through a guided trekking tour with an English-speaking tour guide along various routes of the mountain.
