This informative walking and driving tour will take you around Birmingham in three hours as you learn about the struggle for racial equality. This era of history took place after the end of the Civil War, lasting through the Civil Rights Movement of the 20th century.

Led by a knowledgeable guide, you’ll visit Kelly Ingram Park to see the statues of those who marched for freedom in the city. You’ll see the 16th Street Baptist Church and learn about its role in the struggle, as well its tragic bombing by white supremacists in 1963.

You’ll also delve deeper into the life for African Americans in the heyday of the Black Business District and see sites associated with segregationist politician Bull Connor, civil rights leader Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, the Freedom Riders and protest marches.

    Hotel pickup is only available from downtown Birmingham. Please be ready 15–30 minutes before your scheduled pickup time. If you are not being picked up, meet your guide next to the Fred Shuttlesworth statue, in front of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. There is a free parking lot in front of the institute as well as free street parking.
