Where do I even begin… Anathan’s place was an oasis, a safe haven for me after I spent a few days in the hectic and chaotic Colombo. From the very first moment that I arrived to the very last minute that I left, I always felt taken care of, spoiled almost, and above everything, I felt at home. In fact, Anathan’s place was so comfortable, so peaceful that it felt almost difficult to get out and explore the town. Obviously a home isn’t a home without its host. And for that, I have to thank Ananthan for going above and beyond to provide me with a comfortable stay. He always made sure that I had enough for breakfast, always asked if I wanted more tea and coffee (and yes, please), and even brought me along to the ceremonies at the Nallur temple where his family and friends were also there, welcoming me with unparalleled warmth and hospitality. Even though I was a solo traveller, I had never felt lonely during the entire stay. Ananthan was always there should I need anything. It brought me great joy and peace just to sit by the patio and listen to the singing of the birds and the rustling of the trees. I was sad that I could not stay longer. And I’d return, time and again.

Private parking is available on site at this recently renovated property. The bed and breakfast features family rooms. We really liked Betty’s Cottage and the owners were really nice. They booked our bus from Colombo to Jaffna which was a huge help, and they waited up until 4 am for us to arrive. We had only booked the place for the following night so they charged us half a day. The breakfast offered was fine, nothing to rave about. The WiFi is really good! The hosts are also nice and very dedicated to making sure we got everything we needed.

Delicious regional style meals can be provided by the kind a friendly family living in the property next door upon request. The very polite young man Bobbu that brings the food speaks very good English. The property has good wifi provided free of charge. The wonderfully kind and friendly owners Adhi and Karthiga are great hosts and remain available via WhatsApp to attend to your every need. They are delighted to drop by to the villa at the time you arrange to offer local advice and bring you things you may need. They also kindly offer to bring you some local delicacies to try if you want (toddy, ice apples etc). Adhi and Karthiga speak very good English and are truly wonderful people to meet. The main bedroom has a double bed and a single bed. Both beds have mosquito nets and two fans are provided. There seems to be an additional separate bedroom if you need it, however as we were only two people this wasn’t required for our stay. The villa is in the countryside, as such you may meet a few cute little frogs in the bathroom who are sheltering there from the heat of the day.

The host was super nice, helpful and friendly, always around to offer help. His wife makes the most delicious home made Jaffna food, try the mutton and crab curry. The place is on a very quiet street, however, it was easy to get a tuk tuk in and out of town or to any place of interest.

The accommodation, facilities, vibe and island itself are excellent. I can't recommend this place enough.
