Bairnsdale is a large country town. The Catholic Church as you you enter from the Melbourne side on the left is definitely worth a visit. A volunteer is available and has a wealth of information in relation to the church and history of the area. Not to be missed.
There are plenty of shops, the Potted Pear, gift wares, is great.
There are museums, historical and Aboriginal.
Bairnsdale is a lovely place for a day visit.

Typical Australian town which is busy during the day and completely dead at night. Felt quite safe to walk around early evening but can't comment on late evening. All usual shops available.
We ate at the Cow & Fish Pub which was excellent for food but lacked soft furnishings in the dining area. Felt it was a bit like a social club rather than a hotel/restaurant.
Very convenient for us as travelling down to Paynesville and Lakes Entrance which is only a 25 minute drive away. Also played golf at Metung Country Club which was excellent including lunch at the club house.

Our stay was way too short.
Our stay was way too short. Bairnsdale allows you the perfect location to explore the region.
You have to try the Thai restaurant Cinnamon, it was amazing and the flavours are on point.
We ventured to Metung and Lakes Entrance and could have easily done multiple days at both locations.

RSL served us the wrong order steak that was boot leather.
RSL served us the wrong order steak that was boot leather. surrounding cafes served overpriced meals. A lot of foot traffic around left us not leaving doors unlocked. We used it as a destination for the hotel. And that is where it ended. however we only stayed one night.

The Mitchel River Tavern is an interesting place to stay.
The Mitchel River Tavern is an interesting place to stay. Close to the centre of Bairnsdal, it has comfortable accommodation, a Bistro, Barm, Club and off-street parking.
Staff were helpful and checkin and out was fast and relaxed.
The hosts are lovely and friendly but respect privacy and will only interact as much as you initiate, they are very helpful if you need assistance with anything whatsoever. The garden apartment is very comfortable. The breakfast provisions are generous and lovely. The garden is beautiful to observe and wake up to. Bairnsdale is a great town with lots to do and enjoy. Lots of relaxing fishing spots or walks. The hosts provide a room service each day, refilling supplies, making the bed and tidying up. Thank you.
Previously known as Kansis City the motel is showing its age - BUT despite that the new owner was most welcoming and already started on the needed upgrades. It has the best location in Bairnsdale being on the main road in the center of the city. Sure, there quite a few things to do but if you are looking the most convenient central site in the city and needing a comfortable, quiet night you should consider the Castle (previously the Kansas City)
Well located just off main road through Bairnsdale but not noisy during the night. Close to Raymond island to see Koalas. Paynesville was nice to visit. Close to shops in Bairnsdale and easy to walk around town. Toaster and kettle provided. There was also a fridge. Good heating and excellent shower. For the price this is an excellent motel. It was clean and bed was comfy.
The manager was friendly, helpful, and obliging.
The Motel was quiet, despite being central to the main town of Bairnsdale.
The Motel is old, but relatively clean and all facilities were in working order.
The fridge and freezer in particular, was perfect.
The bed was firm and comfortable.
I felt safe and secure in the motel room I stayed in.
The garden cottage has everything to make you feel comfortable home away from home. About 15 min walk into the town centre so you can leave the car at home. For travellers the ability to wash your clothes and dry easily is great. Bairnsdale is a good place to make as a base to visit Paynesville/ Raymond Island and Lakes Entrance.
The facilities felt fresh and up-to-date - the room was clean, spacious and bright. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the owner was lovely. I recommend the hotel restaurant, too. There didn't seem to be many restaurants within walking distance, so my friend and I had breakfast there each morning and really enjoyed it.
staff were polite and a special mention to Adam for going beyond for me and my little family to stay i asked how much i had to pay for my little family to join me but he said do not worry about it definitely recommend NRMA Bairnsdale Riverside holiday park to stay keep up the awesome work!!!!
It's off the main drag, so it's much quieter than the previous place we stayed at in Bairnsdale. It's not sparkly new, but it's perfectly fine. Nothing to complain about, and the staff (the manager at the desk) was very helpful and cheery.
Reasonable priced accommodation with a small underground car park. The rooms are adequate, comfortable, a decent size and have really good showers. The hotel has a decent restaurant. Good accommodation for an overnight or a few days stay.
The room was exceptionally clean. By far the cleanest and best most awesome hotel I have ever been to. Legendary Spa with good water pressure. Cleanest room of all creation. Friendly staff and overall amazing.
Probably the best hotel that I stayed in during my two week trip through regional NSW & Victoria. Clean, modern facilities and so spacious! Bed comfortable and shower hot.
