It’s our fourth time here.
It’s our fourth time here.
We loved Blackheath - best walks - Grand Canyon and Govet’s Leap
We also love Katoomba - many walks and lookouts
And Wentworth Falls is just a short drive or train trip to the East
So much choice, so much beauty.
Walks galore - so awe inspiring.
Peace and relaxation - perfect 4 days/3nights
Easy access by train.
But PLEASE take water with you on your walks, preferably with an electrolyte supplement. Australia can get hot, there are no taps along the walks (it’s a national park) and the walks are fairly long (3-4hrs). We saw a few people looking lightheaded and weary from dehydration - fortunately we had spare water to share.

Lovely town with lots of local stores and breathtaking views. I would say even better than Katoomba. Friendly locals. Nice walking through the town, everyone had beautiful gardens, you could tell they really make an effort to make them stunning. I recommend sunrise at Govetts Leap Lookout, hiking in Katoomba either using Scenic world facilities for less mobile visitors or challenge yourself for a long hike around a valley. We finished our afternoon/evening at Japanese Bath House (30 min away) which was great recovery after hiking. Next day morning we visited Botanical garden which was again so beautiful with no entrance fee.

Coming back to life.
Coming back to life. A few empty shops but still a fair bit to see. Coffee places are good.Close to other centre town.areas. I have planned a second trip back in the next month or so.
The Gold club was handy for very nice bistro food. Need a car to get around. Given I was here on a Friday and Saturday it wasn't too busy.

It's less trendy than other lower mountain destinations - less like Sydney - a greater variety of restaurants & coffee shops & book shop & antique centre
Lots of easy street walks and for the fitter many bush walks
More laid back and a quieter community

Blackheath is a beautiful mountains village.
Blackheath is a beautiful mountains village.
Walking the streets takes you past early style, nicely renovated mountain homes and beautiful gardens. There are quality cafes, restaurants and gift shops. My visit in October was lovely and warm, but not hot, and cooler overnight.
The train station is convenient to the town centre.

Blackheath is on the Blue Mts train line and quite accessible but a car is of help if you wish to visit other points along the line eg Katoomba and Leura, Megalong Valley or Jenolan Caves. A car is also a necessity if you are into hiking the trails as most are not near public transport. Blackheath has a great village atmosphere - pubs, antiques, retail and more and is a more economical place to centre yourself than Katoomba or Leura. In itself it is a walkable village.
I spent two out of my three days on holiday bushwalking, so I did not spend much time in the room apart from after returning home in the late evening. Loved the hot shower at the end of a long day of hiking. Bed furnishings were clean and comfortable. High-speed Wi-Fi was excellent!
High Mountains Motor Inn was strategically situated close to the Blackheath town centre, Govett's Leap/Grand Canyon Track, on top of being about a stone's throw away from the beautiful Katoomba township.
A wonderful location with exceptional views. The house was cosy and well kitted out. A mixture of modern and old world. Cooler at the time of our visit, so the fire was a nice plus. We enjoyed taking our dog for walks in the local area and Blackheath centre is just a short drive away. The house was a perfect holiday haven. Everything was as per the online description and yes we shall definately make a point of going back.
Beautiful modern hotel in the heart of the Blue Mountains. very relaxing and a great restaurant with beautiful food on the premises. Walking distance to town and beautiful gardens. The staff were super friendly, when I asked whether they had some peppermint tea after dinner (as the room only had green and black tea) they searched the place and brought me the last two tea bags to my room. Highly recommend!
The room was spacious and elegant with a very comfortable bed. We enjoyed being able to access Netflix on the large HD TV with very good wifi. The staff we met were very friendly and accommodating.
Communication via email and text was excellent with very clear instructions about self check-in.
The guesthouse is conveniently located within a short walking distance of the station, hotels and shops.
Calamandah House was chosen for its location in Blackheath, which made it accessible to the Blue Mts walking tracks as this was largely a hiking holiday. The three bedrooms met the requirements of three individual adults ( as we were). The house is extremely well equipped in all respects, including an interesting library. Well kept grounds which would be quite picturesque in spring.
I felt so welcome as soon as I arrived. The property and general location is amazing. The rooms are great and the shared spaces are beautiful. I enjoyed the fresh fruit, yoghurt and ham and cheese croissants for breakfast before I went out for my hikes during the day. Cafes, restaurants and pubs close by. Everything was extremely well organised.
We had the most wonderful time! See, our host went above and beyond! She was super friendly and made sure that there was plenty of food. The cottage was sparkling clean and extremely comfortable. We loved the fireplace and bath. It’s a great spot to enjoy the surrounding hikes and close to Blackheath cafes and shops. We’ll definitely be back
Daryll & Richard are excellent hosts with a phenomenal property. The cottage has everything you could hope for, is well maintained, and has excellent views with all of the windows. If Mount Booralee is available for your dates, do not hesitate. If we are ever back in the area, we will certainly be sure to stay here again.
It is located in the a very peaceful and quiet location however you are close to everything if you want to go for a drive.
Its close to Evans Lookout plus all the attractions that Blue mountains are famous for.
The cottage along with the facilities are very well managed and more than enough for a family vacation.
the property has been renovated recently and now has a better quality than most other properties you’ll find nearby. Good beds, good tv, nice wooden floor instead of the usual dusty carpets. To complete things you need when in a hotel room I’d recommend to put a small 2 seats table in the room + a small bin.
Great location in Blackheath, walking distance to pretty well everything. Room was basic, but had everything I needed. Price was excellent for the location and stay. Even had a small balcony with a table attached to the room, though it was shared with the room next door.
The Bed was really comfortable and we were fortunate to have a room away from the street noise/traffic. Compared to other rooms, our bathroom was passable. It's a good hotel for couples and those that are happy to keep to themselves and retreat to their rooms by 10pm.
Beautiful location and cosy romantic cottage. We lived here 30 years ago so it was a delight to be able to return and share the experience with 2 of our grown children. Kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend.
Very comfortable and quiet location. The hosts were extremely helpful and even prepared snacks for our stay :)
My wife and children loved the stay there and definitely go back again should we be heading to the Blue Mountains again :)
Easy contactless check in and check out. Location is on the highway close to main part of Blackheath, which is an easy walk. Room was clean and good for a couple for a short stay. Easy on-site parking for each room.
Great Cottage set right in the middle of the Blue Mountains. Close to all the major attractions and walks. Plenty of room for the children to run around and enjoy themselves as well.
It was only a short walk into Blackheath which had lots of places to eat. Very conveniently located in the Blue Mountains. Lots of suggestions for places to visit
