The heritage town of Mintaro is one of my favourite places to visit in South Australia. There are a number of quality accommodation places to stay at and I recommend eating at the local pub, Magpie & Stump. Try the long lunch at Reilly's and visit the wineries in the surrounding area. Take a stroll around the town which is really a little village, lots of interesting history to take-in.

Mintaro is an Historic an peaceful town with a fantasic hotel, 'Magpie and Stump' and Reillys Winery which both offer great food. It is great location to access all that is great in the Clare Valley.

Mintaro is steeped full of history.

Mintaro is steeped full of history. Pretty town perfect for a few days in the Clare Valley. Martingale Hall is well worth a visit. We didn't visit the maze however children would probably love this. There is a lively pub with live music that has a great beer garden and is kid friendly. There isn't a convenience store in town however coffee seemed to be available if you visit the maze.

It was a period home of the 1800s and fit with the area.

It was a period home of the 1800s and fit with the area. We enjoyed the rustic nature as that was why we went, to explore the time period and history of the area so it was fun to stay in a cottage of that period. It isn't a 5 star hotel so don't go expecting that! It had either original furniture or replica and that made it charming (except for the modern huge spa bath!). A funny moment. The kitchen-ette is well supplied but we couldn't find the plates and bowls! It took a while to realise they were in the ornamental cabinet on the wall, as they were kept in the 1800s! :) We enjoyed neighbouring towns, the Burra key was well worth it, from the info place but not cheap at $30 each. We loved the nearby mansion and maze, which is why we went. The local corner pub had the best food too! :)

Would highly recommend Mintaro as a place to stay.

Would highly recommend Mintaro as a place to stay. The extra peace afforded by being away from Clare was exceptional, as were Reilley Cellars and the Magpie & Stump Hotel for outstanding food and wine experiences.

Charming and very historic village with the very good Reilly's Winery Cellar Door, the impressive mansion Martindale Hall (open to the public), the fun and quirky Mintaro Maze, a good pub in the 'Magpie & Stump'...not to mention the short drive to rest of the Clare Valley and the historic town of Burra. We highly recommend a stay in Mintaro.
