A wonderful town of Herzegovina grasped in a gorge among the beautiful mountains, halfway between Trebinje and Mostar. A place where time stands still. There is definitely a lot to see here. Pleasant riverfront, impressive waterfalls, the old Vidos fortress on the hill above the town, beautiful old mosques, buildings and bridges. There are also traces of the recent war in the city and a lot of ruins. The best restaurant in Stolac is the Old Town where you can find really cheap and delicious food. From Stolac it is easy to reach the main attractions of the region: the necropolises of Radimlja and the Boljuni, the ruins of the ancient city of Daorson, the church from the 16th century in the village of Oshanichi. Blagaj and Počitel are also nearby.

There is the 16th century castle, the necropolis and the old flour mills turned by water from the river which flows through the middle of the town. With Stolac as the base one could visit Hutovo where there is another castle(abandoned), Bileca, Trebinje with it's old bridge which rivals the one in Mostar and on the road back to Stolac one can visit the vast vineyards on the plains. It's also easy/close to Neum at the seaside and Croatia.
