Amazing location with a stunning view over Baia de Paraty and the surrounding tree-covered hills. The most convenient airport for both domestic and international travellers is Rio de Janeiro-Galeão International Airport, due to its numerous flight connections. It's approximately 240 km from Paraty.
Paraty, Brazil, is best navigated on foot due to its small size and pedestrianised historic centre. For longer distances, local buses operate regularly. Cycling is another viable option, with bike rentals available. Taxis are also accessible for convenient travel. Please note, driving is not recommended due to limited parking.
The Historic Centre, or Centro Histórico, is the best area to stay in Paraty, Brazil. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site, brimming with charming colonial architecture, vibrant restaurants, and unique shops. It's also conveniently close to the city's main attractions and the harbour.
Emerald-coloured Forests and Turquoise Waters
Paraty is surrounded by emerald green forests attached to mountains that plummet directly into turquoise waters or white-sand beaches. The cobblestone streets and colonial houses of the city centre pay homage to its Portuguese roots, and accessible islands and secluded beaches lure the sun-seeking crowds.
White buildings decorated with colourful door arches and window surrounds line the small lanes of the historic old town. The 17th-century First Church of Our Lady of the Remedies watches over the shaded eastern meeting point of Matriz Square.
North of the canal are Pontal and Jabaquara beaches that are split by the Perpetual Defender fortress, built by the British in the 18th century. Hiring a boat will take you out to more remote islands like diving hot spot Ilha dos Meros or unspoilt Paraty-Mirim Beach, south of the city.
As part of Brazil’s Costa Verde coast, the nearby Gold Trail and Serra da Bocaina National Park highlight the native Atlantic forest and fauna such as the sloth.
Whether you are seeking a peaceful nature retreat, beachside guest house or city centre hostel, Booking.com has an option for you.
Paraty is a little bit of heaven.
I love the water, the beaches, the islands and the jungle. Hire a boat and explore!
Every night the city is a block party with tables in the street and music spilling out of restaurants.
Don't miss the historical museum.

It’s a must see for any visitor or even Brazilian.
It’s a must see for any visitor or even Brazilian. A beautiful town with a historic center. The city has various nice restaurants (but usually quite pricy) and shops.
Since it’s not in the mountains, it’s easier to visit than for example ouro preto.

I think 1 or 2 nights is just right.
I think 1 or 2 nights is just right. It is nice to do a layover in Paraty because on the bus ride to and from (Rio/Sao Paulo) you can see quite a bit of the smaller towns and nature. If you did a bus direct from SP to Rio it would stick to the main highways and you wouldn't see as much. Worth a visit if you have time but keep in mind everything will be slightly more expensive as local tourists also like coming here. There are also lots of festivals so depending if you like festivals you could time your trip to coincide with one of them. During my stay there was a gastronomy festival which was pretty cool. They had cooking demonstrations and free samples of stuff.

Paraty is nothing more than a tourist trap and scam.
Paraty is nothing more than a tourist trap and scam. It is just 4 streets of colonial buildings with arrogant people. It is marketed extremely well as you believe that Paraty is a village of only colonial buildings however to our surprise they have added (obviously quite some time ago) more buildings and a bigger village the new town shall we call it. It is full of homeless people and danger the floor is disgusting and the people are intimidating. The supermarket is poorly built shed with insects everywhere and extremely overpriced. we left a day earlier than planned as we could not wait to escape the hell hole.

Paraty has a very smalll historical area. Unless you want to take a boat trip you can view the area in a couple of hours. The beaches in Paraty itself are not very nice for swimming but outside there are beautiful beaches and areas.

The apartment is in a beautiful location surrounded by rivers and rain forest with interesting plants and animals everywhere. The hosts could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. A perfect place to relax and unwind.
The staff are so friendly and welcoming here. Our room was clean and very comfortable. The air conditioning works great which is essential in the heat. There is hot water in the shower. The breakfast has lots of options, you can have scrambled eggs, different breads toasted, a selection of cakes which varied daily, different fruits, yoghurts, juices, some cold sliced meats like ham and cheese. Paraty is very small and the pousada is like a 2 min walk to the old town, right beside some shops. The wifi works well
We really enjoyed the pool area, wonderful breakfast, and staff was top notch. Kept things very clean for our stay and this was a really relaxing place to wind down each evening.
The staff provided some really good ideas around town for activities and restaurants.
There was a good burger place close by and we didn't mind a 20 minute walk to the historic center of Paraty. It was safe and enjoyable walk past shops and plenty of stores along the way to grab snacks or drinks any time.
Nice hotel area with lovely gardens and beautiful houses for the guest rooms. Two great pools - out in the sun and inside a pool house. Calm area, but in short walking distance from village center where there are restaurants, pubs, shops, sights and all we wanted to do and see. Also, Paraty feels - and is - a lot safer than many other places in Brazil.
Beautiful historical authentic pousada nicely decorated and with an amazing location right in the center of the old town. Our room was very comfortable with balconies with a view over the rooftops. The breakfast was outstanding with homemade yogurt and preserves, cut up Tropical fruit, eggs, wonderful coffee and juices.
This was a nice pousada, located just a few minutes' walk from the old town centre. The environment of the pousada is welcoming, with a sheltered patio for guests to relax.
I was mostly in contact with Manuella, who was very pleasant to deal with, and helpful in organising a tour with a local tour company.
the property is absolutely beautiful. super comfortable and relaxing. the hosts are incredibly kind and helpful. they provided us tons of information about the area and even booked us a boat tour. We extended our stay, because the place was the nicest place we stayed at during our travels in Brazil.
We loved our stay here! Marcus and Gean were extremely welcoming, helpful and wanted to ensure we had a great time. The hotel was very pretty, quaint and clean. Would definitely stay recommend to any couples or friends who are visiting Paraty! Location was great, just a short walk to town.
Paraty is an exceptional city where owners of pousadas and casas like this one make such a great atmosphere, I absolutely loved how cozy, clean and friendly the owners were, enjoyed every minute.
This place has an authentic spirit of Paraty with lots of genuine beautiful details
Paraty and it’s surroundings are insanely beautiful. The stay at Pousada da Marquesa was magical. The staff is very friendly, the building like stepping into another era (in a positive way!), wish we could have stayed much longer! Obrigado por tudo. Esperamos voltar um dia!
Beautiful boutique hotel with a house stay vibe, very private and chill. Room is big and has everything that is needed. Host is super friendly and nice, and she provided an amazing breakfast. Very well located in the city Center but away from the most noisy part of town.
The Manager was extremely helpful and friendly and went out of his way to make it a smooth stay and liaising with transfer company - not asked for this service but he out of his kindness did it anyway. Also organised transfer to Bus station Paraty. Thank you so much!
Location was perfect only a short walk to the historic center. The property is very calm and peaceful, such a relaxing vibe. Great variety at breakfast just what’s needed to start the day. Would recommend Boutique Hotel Carpe Diem to anyone visiting Paraty!
PROS: The hotel was clean, but very basic. We had two rooms there.
Good location; friendly staff;
good quality linen and bath towels; good + hot shower; good a/c. Ok breakfast, kitchen staff were very welcoming.
Everything was perfect. Very quite nice little pousada. Breakfast is unique and delicious. The staff and the owner absolutely friendly and the owner has very good tips on what to do and where to eat in Paraty.
Beautiful pousada in the center of Paraty and near the bus station. We loved our room as it was clean, cozy and had an amazing jacuzzi. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
