FAQs about hotels in Victoria

Ye Olde England in British Columbia's Capital

Picture Ye Olde English pubs, turn-of-the-century British buildings and immaculately planned parks. Now place it in a pristine coastal environment on Vancouver Island in Canada and you have the capital city of British Columbia, a region of extraordinary and unabashed beauty.

Grab your camera and head for a walk in the Garden City to the beautiful Butchart Gardens with its colourful flowers and foliage that change through the seasons. Revitalise your lungs with some pure Canadian air by going cycling along the largest network of bicycle tracks for any city in Canada.

The Inner Harbour provides many activities both on land or out to sea. Buskers and artists make this a lively epicentre of entertainment with many restaurants or take a harbour cruise to admire the coast from afar.

Whale watching is a must-do excursion from Victoria Harbour with the Orca whale a popular attraction. Craigdarroch Castle and the Royal British Columbia Museum are favourite day trips in the capital.

BC Ferries from Vancouver gets you to the southern tip of Vancouver Island. You can then drive a short distance to the city centre where most of the hotels are found on Booking.com. Victoria International Airport services flights from Canada and the USA.

I have the benefit of being a tourist as well as a former resident of Victoria. I know where to go to maximize my visits, which often take place in the winter months as a way to escape the cold and snow at home. On that note, February is a great time to experience Vancouver Island because the flowers are beginning to bloom. Victoria is a lovely city to walk around, but I would highly recommend heading up-island if you have time and explore more of the island. It's stunningly beautiful everywhere you look!

Victoria is a lovely safe easy capital city.

Victoria is a lovely safe easy capital city. Lots to do and good restaurants. My favourite restaurant is Nubo. Use your phone to drive around and take the weird short cuts as they are so much fun. BC ferries are amazing for what they do but are also far from perfect and it pays to take a little time to understand their system. Get a reservation and keep it as simple as you can. Victoria is a great weekend visit but if you are from farther away there are other fantastic and close destinations. Either on the famous west coast but also on the easier east coast of Vancouver Island.

My 28th visit to Victoria, BC, Canada in my lifetime was the...

My 28th visit to Victoria, BC, Canada in my lifetime was the first one in January due to must-see exhibits at the Royal BC Museum (Angkor Wat) and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (Sophie Pemberton) ending soon. Although high winds & waves occurred on the days we took the ferry across the Salish Sea, the weather in Victoria was fine the whole time we were there! My friends & I walked onto the ferry, & traveled by bus to and from Victoria. We walked to the places we visited, and even in January these walks were pleasant. Yay! Victoria finally has a sewage treatment plant! This was my first visit since this plant became operational! It's sad that European Canadians built this city on land sacred to the Tung'uxw for thousands of years. I mourn the loss of pristine forests, waters, & skies in this part of the world, yet soon global warming will cause all 8 billion people on this planet to be extinct, so we must enjoy life while it lasts. {Global warming in 2023 was based on pollution in 1973, so we're locked into increased warming for 50 to 100 years due to this past foolishness plus feedbacks caused by the global warming in recent times. It sure would be nice if all the people in this world could agree to end all wars so we can begin World Peace One! This would of course include an end of pollution that will permeate Earth's atmosphere by 50 years in the future.} Stayed at James Bay Inn; ate there & at James Joyce Bistro. Always go as a walk-on passenger on the ferries, and ride public transit buses to & from Victoria on Vancouver Island. Always walk around town, especially via Beacon Hill Park. Keep life simple, make life sweet. Be nice to other people, and other people will be nice to you. Victoria is vital: It has a nice relaxed pulse.

Though we lived in Victoria for many years, seeing the building that has gone on really has made a change to downtown. I'll need to re-aquaint myself with the shops, businesses and museums. Oh and the gardens too. I would love to ride on the harbour ferries. See the Nautical museum.Try the new Persian Restaurant on Burnside.Visit Irish Linen shop. Check out Crystal Gardens. I swam there as a child.

Chateau Victoria is in a great location and it is easy to walk to many local places of interest. Secure parking was also available. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We stayed in a One-Bedroom suite which had a separate lounge area. The room was very comfortable and there was a small kitchenette with a microwave. The hotel has a lovely lobby and bar. On the top floor is a restaurant with spectacular views over the city. We had cocktails there one evening and good breakfasts on two days.

Our room was exceptionally clean and modern. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Grace, at the reception desk, was lovely and attentive. There is a games room with a massive tv as well as table tennis and foos ball and we popped in there each day to play. The location of the hotel is very good and we were able to walk downtown from there every day. We could not have asked for a better stay. Great job everybody!

The unit was very nice, facilities were great. The place has all the usual appliances that we needed to prepare our meals. Microwave oven, 4-burner stovetop, dishwasher, fridge, freezer . . . . I would highly recommend the unit to a family or someone looking to stay in downtown Victoria. Be it a few days or a few weeks. Very accessible and in close proximity to a lot of the important downtown attractions.

I won’t stay anywhere else from now on when I visit my son in Victoria! What a lovely place! The room was great. I enjoyed the character, furnishings, fireplace, walkable location near downtown, the waterfront and Beacon Hill Park. Excellent value! Loved the courtyard, and that it was dog friendly. It felt like a home away from home, not a hotel room. I will return soon and often.

Really big and cosy airbnb. Cindy was making sure from the beginning that we felt welcome and at home. The beds were really comfortable and downtown was only a few minutes by car.
