So when I called to say I'd be arriving late, the guy Skip was very reassuring and encouraged me to just get there SAFE. I really appreciated this as it was a LONG day of driving plus I hadn't slept the night before as I was packing my apartment all night. 48 hrs no sleep and driving a 10 ft truck on the transcan with a dog and I was BEAT. I promised I'd arrive before 10 when the office closes and I did, waving to show him I'd arrived and found my key in the door as promised. I settled in and then went looking for the ice machine. It was in the office...that was now LOCKED, although it was just 9:50pm. OK I can deal with that. Exhausted and having booked the place as it had a bathtub and my sciatic nerve was acting up from the drive, I went to take a soak. NO BATH PLUG!! It had been PURPOSELY removed by the hotel, seemingly so people couldn't bathe in the tub -- the whole reason I'd selected the place!! Now tired and grumpy, pained and iceless, I took the dog for a quick walk. That was when I saw all the other places that were CHEAPER and also had tubs, presumably that closed!!! Now I was angry on top of everything else. I'd booked a place and paid for amenities I couldn't use. In the morning the staff and especially the young lady cleaning rooms AND manning the front desk, was just lovely. I would have appreciated real cream or milk and not cheap WHITENER in my coffee, but again, another cost saving measure. Had a muffin...it's JUST a muffin folks, not sure what all the hype was about! The REAL kicker was the $20 + tax charge added to my bill for me having my pet dog with me. It's a pet friendly motel and when I booked on Booking.com it indicated it was included in the price and I wouldn't be billed extra. My bill says otherwise!! I will be taking this up with booking.com as it made my stay VERY expensive, whereas I would have chosen somewhere else where it was INCLUDED.

It was smaller than I expected, but very friendly and quaint, and easy to navigate. I had a great time looking through the thrift shop and met wonderful people at the roadside restaurant called Krazy Fries. Food was great too!
I was able to pick up all the supplies I needed for my trip, and had dinner at the sub shop on my last night.

Beach and snowmobile trail enjoyable.
Beach and snowmobile trail enjoyable. Main road set up well with sidewalks; wide area of interlocking stone in downtown area with many benches to suit people of all abilities. North of 17 restaurant had very good food at a reasonable price. The Chinese restaurant was not as good as I expected and they only had take out.

The beach was lovely.
The beach was lovely. The Goose was the main attraction, and that took about 15 minutes. The facilities at this location should be closed. It was really really nasty and stink. The Tim Hortons was closed cause they did not have enough staff on the night we arrived. Subway was awesome. Customers in the Tim Hortons walked around without masks, walked up to the counter and checked out all the breakfast meals that were partially there as they were being setup. NO ONE HAD ANY OBJECTIONS TO ANY OF THIS!

This was the last leg of a road trip in an EV Chevy Bolt from Southern Ontario to Northwest British Columbia.
The booking was made late when I decided Wawa would be the stop for the night.
With a late booking, you do not expect a lot.
The room was very nice.
Had a great sleep and an early start.
Plus a Petro-Canada Fast Charger was close.

I was surprisingly happy with our experience at the big bird...
I was surprisingly happy with our experience at the big bird inn. Previous reviews were less then flattering. The property is undergoing renovations. We stayed in one of the “new rooms.” It was clean and fresh looking. Bathroom is big and modern in style. Laminate floors felt clean to walk on. I wish there were more convenient plug ins, to charge my phone and electronics.
The parking lots was pretty full, so I was worried about the hotel being nosey. We were able to sleep just fine, without hearing nose from other rooms.
There was a mini fridge in the room, but no coffee maker. However there was a coffee station in the lobby area by the front desk.
The town of Wawa is small and industrial. Expecting a 5 star hotel is not going to happen. The Big Bird Inn was a great little hotel for a family stop over, as we drive across Canada. The staff were pleasant, room was clean, beds were ok to sleep on (though very high for kids). What more can a person ask for?! I would recommend the big Bird inn to others.
Btw the Tim Norton’s (down the street) opens at 4am of you want coffee before you hit the road.

Nature spectacular.
Nature spectacular. Wawa lake was very peaceful and not at all crowded. Unlike Lake Superior, it was very warm and swimmable. They do a brilliant job of displaying the history of the town and the boom and bust cycles (presently more towards the latter). Really humanises the place. Hiking is not as plentiful as other areas unless you include Lake Superior Prov Park. And running into bears on walks out of town is a constant possibility.
A quirky little motel in the lovely little town of Wawa.
The man that runs the motel was very friendly and helpful. They have freshly baked muffins and coffee in the office every morning, delicious 😋.
There was a fridge and microwave in our room and the bed was very comfortable.
Only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the town, with The Viking restaurant across the road, serving great meals and drinks.
This was one of the nicest, cleanest motels we have ever stayed at. Comfy beds, pillows, and linens. Rooms looked like they had been recently remodeled and the workmanship was excellent. Just a couple miles from Wawa town center, it was close to everything we wanted to do in the area. The Mystic sits on a hill top and has a beautiful view and the grounds were immaculate and planted beautifully.
The Property was clean. Beds were very comfy. Great Staff. Easy Check In. Was Quiet. Not much for TV but being in such a remote area of Northern Ontario was to be expected. They Offer coffee and cookies in the lobby in the morning. close to restaurants but they close early. Most before 6 pm.
It's a convenient location right off the highway before hitting Wawa. Rooms are what you would expect from a motel, and they were clean. My son left his pillow in the room, so we called the staff, who were able to set it aside for us to pick up on our return through the area.
It is my first time staying at a motel and it totally exceeded my expectations! Very clean, smooth check-in and check-out. The room was equipped with fridge, microwave and a small dining table (even some hotels do not have all of these)
Motel - park at door on ground floor. Room extremely clean and well done. Comfortable. No need for AC, nice and cool mid July. Owner was very helpful and friendly. Close by an incredible restaurant that the hotel owner recommended.
location was great as we travel across the country. cabins were cute with a bbq, kitchenette and separate bedrooms. pet friendly and the lake looked nice but couldn’t use it as the weather wasn’t great. the owner was very friendly
Clean, comfortable, and despite being near the highway very quiet with the occasional traffic noise but it wasn’t loud or bothersome.
Staff were friendly and welcoming. I would recommend to a friend :)
It’s located far from busy roads on the Wawa lake shore, fully renovated with contemporary appliances, bathroom, and has kitchenette. It’s convenient for either short or longer stays.
This building has been redone since last time in Wawa . friend told us about it , so tried it . Clean exterior , clean inside , close to restraunt and convenience store .
Perfect location just off the highway. A gas station is also conveniently located adjacent to the hotel. Beds were very comfy and the rooms were quite spacious.
