Absolutely loved the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum.
Absolutely loved the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum. Both were outstanding. The National Museum was slightly disappointing on the pre Columbian material after visiting the Gold Museum. Monserrate worth a visit on the hill as the views are spectacular. Try to take the cable car as the funicular was a bit claustrophobic. But tickets in advance. If you walk up or down the hill make sure you have good shoes to walk in
It was a good city to walk around. La Candelaria is a nice area and I wish I had time for a walking tour there. The graffiti in Bogota is spectacular and again with more time I would have done another tour. Some of the craft beer is excellent and there is a lot of it.
Be careful at dusk and at night especially if alone. You can feel a little isolated at times and there is some aggressive begging .
Overall an excellent city to visit for a few days.

Bogota is a large and interesting city with no shortage of...
Bogota is a large and interesting city with no shortage of places to visit beyond the well-known galleries and museums. While many people have some English, particularly those under 30 or working in hotels or better quality restaurants, having some Spanish is very helpful or use a translating app. To get around I found Ubers quite inexpensive and readily available, but allow plenty of time for travel as Bogota's traffic is notoriously heavy. Several locals warned me not to use the Transmillenio bus system for fear of robbery and its complexity. There are no trains. I stayed in the northern suburbs (Calle 100) which is more middle class and is said to be safer than the central city area. It's an interesting area to walk around and there are a number of large pleasant parks and well-priced good restaurants and shopping centres. The Parque de Chico - Mercedes Hacienda - with its lovely heritage house and the nearby (short walk) home and studio of Enrique Grau who died in 2004 are recommended. A high level of personal security awareness is essential - eg secure wallets, leave your passport at the hotel but carry some photo identification such as a driver's licence as many museums etc require it for admission. Acceptance of of debit/credit cards is far from universal so carry Colombian Pesos in small notes.
Bogota captures unique Columbian culture beautifully, especially closer to La Candelaria. As you head north from there it will be cleaner and more modern especially near Zona T.
The walk from Centro Industrial area (Santa Fe) to La Candelaria is fun with many street vendors offering food and new/used items. Lots of ATMs and foreign exchange location along the way, you will need COP but established business take credit card sometimes with a fee.
The language is all Spanish, our translator app came in handy would recommend you install one for your trip if needed.
The weather is cool as city at 8k feet elevation. We visited in April with daytime highs in 60s but carry a light jacket as sun sets and temps drop to 50s. Interestingly, not many people in shorts, you will stand it if you where them.
Taxis everywhere, but we used Uber which worked really well and cheap maybe $8 for a 25min ride. Dollar strong vs COP, you can get a decent meal from $4 for meal of day style to $20 for a higher end fish place. Street food $1 hamburger and $2 chicken/beef stick.
Museums are great, lots of over 60 free or just a few bucks to see Bontero and Picasso originals.
We felt very safe even down in La Candelaria, never saw pickpocketing or theft but just a few requests for money during day and early evening. Was not out late evening so not sure about then.

Bogota is a very very big city!
Bogota is a very very big city! We walked around the Candelaria a lot, which was great since it was during holy week and the streets were full of people and vendors. The funicular to Monserrat was incredible and highly recommended. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours up there, including eating at one of the many little restaurants, and enjoying the view. We took taxis everywhere, which was really easy and also important to remember that they are small (3-4 people) if you have a larger group. Later in the afternoon in March/April, there can be big rainstorms, so make sure to bring an umbrella!

Staying in the Candelaria was an excellent choice and I...
Staying in the Candelaria was an excellent choice and I generally enjoyed the city. The hills could be challenging, especially to me in my late 70's, but public seating often available. The menus read like a US Mexican restaurant, but what you get is often anything but! The breakfast aifresco in my photo was the Colombian version of Eggs Benedict, but with a fresh bread roll, topped by clotted cream, raw tomato, bacon, poached eggs and cheese sauce. I was surprised when the vegetable sopa turned out to contain whole checken feet.
Don't miss the many museums. I particularly anjoyed the Military Museum and the Museo de Bogota and under no circumstances miss the free tour of the Gold Museum. I was not impressed by the Tren Touristico de la Sabana (a staight line over flat land and in my case, puuled by a diesel!), nor as a non-church goer by the Salt Cathederal. The latter required a long walk downhill, followed of course by an equally long uphil back! Maybe the stand-alone mine tour might have been preferable?
The biggest problem in Bogota and almost everywhere else was finding local information. Advertised Tourist Boothes were eithr closed or non-existant thus finding a decent map in English is impossible. Buy and bring your own from home.
From the minute I checked into Bogotá 100, I felt like I was at home. All of the staff went above and beyond and nothing was too much trouble.
The complimentary toiletries were high quality and smelled beautiful.
The buffet breakfast was very good, with many options and available for several hours every morning.
It was helpful to also have a few English speaking staff able to help me with questions that I could
not communicate in Spanish.
I highly recommend this hotel and I will definitely stay again when I return to Bogotá
Helpful, professional, young staff. I was flying in and out of Bogota twice in one week and they gave me the name and number of a driver/driving company that was also incredibly professional and helpful for pick up and drop off to airport. I stored a bag at the hotel between trips. They suggested a nice place for a pedicure. Quiet, residential neighborhood. Restaurants and stores very close by. The rooms are clean and bright and happy. Filtered water available to refill your water bottle!
The location around Hotel Virrey Park is one of the best in Bogota. I absolutely love Parque el Virrey and staying in a hotel adjacent to it is always great. The staff was friendly and helpful. My second floor hotel room had an outdoor patio that was pretty cool, would have been better if I had my own table and chairs so I could eat outside. Plenty of great food and drink options in the neighborhoods around the hotel. Both Zona T and Parque de la 93 are short walks away.
Very elegant boutique hotel with exceptional design - in lobby, kitchen, terrace, etc. The location was perfect, definitely would recommend staying in Chapinero when visiting Bogota - walking distance to Zone G for restaurants, also close for Zone T for bars and clubs, around 25 minutes taxi (Uber or Cabify) ride to Candelaria, and 35-40 min ride to the Airport. The staff was really friendly and helpful although they don't speak English.
This hotel is historically a 5-star hotel known to be very traditional within Bogota - you can definitely tell by the decor that there is a lot of history and they run a very large operation - personally my favorite thing was their partner restaurant El Virrey, where we not only ate breakfast during our entire stay (included with our rates) but also had dinner once and also requested room service from
Ok location, not a lot in the general area of the hotel but Transmillerno stop nearby allows a quick trip rip to airport or Bogotá city centre so avoiding the traffic.
Great staff, very welcoming. Rooms were clean and well maintained., really powerful shower in the bathroom.
Breakfast buffet was really great but would advise not to leave it to the last hour as food can run out.
Ibis Marly is brand new and it shows. The main advantage: double-paned windows that actually keep you both warm and keep out the noise, which is often a problem in Bogota hotels. Rooms are small but comfortable and clean. Breakfast buffet is good, location is close to the main areas of the Chapinero district. And with the M86/X86 bus lines it has direct connections to the airport
The staff was super friendly and helpful at all times. We arrived at 1am from the airport with two exhausted little kids and they helped us get to the room quickly. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was very good. A really good hotel with great location when traveling to and from Bogota.
Clean, efficient, standard airport hotel - does everything you expect. Great service in both English and Spanish, close to the airport, with a nice view of the Bogota skyline in the distance. Excellent in allowing me to store my bags for a few days and to pick them up when I returned from travelling nearby.
The hotel is really beautiful, having the colonial type as the photos, the hotel is in a very calm area, yet also close to the public transportation and minutes away on foot to the mall, Kelly and Fran were really helpful and kind, definitely will come back there for my next trip to Colombia. Thank you
This is my favourite hotel in Bogota. I travel a lot and I said to my husband that this is the ideal hotel to go to when arriving in a new city.
It is easy to get to from the airport. The wifi is strong. The staff are very friendly. Breakfast is excellent and the staff in the restaurant are the BEST.
It’s the second time we choose this hotel in order to go to the US Embassy in Bogota.
The hotel meets all the needs and have breakfast included. The location is great with nearby restaurants.
The front desk is very kind and helpful arranging transportation both to the embassy and to the airport.
The rooms are clean with a comfortable bed. Staff is friendly and helpful and hot water for a shower. Generally, the hotel is very clean and very good value for the price. Taxi to the airport is easily arranged and not expensive. This is a good hotel and my choice when I return to Bogota.
The location is great! Close to everything you want to see. The rooms are small and sparse but comfortable and clean. We appreciated that Hotel let us use parking past check out. Breakfast buffet looked delicious but at 40k p. P. a bit expensive for Colombian circumstances.
Shuttle transfer service from Bogota Airport to the hotel was excellent. Hotel helped to arrange transport to Sogamoso in Boyaca which was very convenient and welcome. Adequate breakfast. Very helpful and courteous staff in all areas. Luggage storage was available.
A funky boutique hotel in the quieter part of Chapinero. Colombian design in a English stlye country house, plenty of warm colors, a fireplace, lovely stairs, a patio. The house restaurant is amazing, although there are many good options nearby
Checked in 9 pm and had to check out 10,30 pm with in one and half hour due to my cincerns about safety of the building as when i had shower the water spread all over room , i felt like staying in 1 star hotel , ended up staying in bogota plaza
OMG, the breakfast was amazing, as a Colombia who loves to eat, it was wonderful. The location is close to the downtown, so you can go for a walk in some beautiful places in Bogotá. The staff was super friendly.
The room was comfortable. Some of the staff were really friendly and helpful.
The drivers the hotel arranged were excellent.
Bogota and Colombia is wonderful. This hotel is a disappointment.
