The landlady is very welcoming despite the language barrier and is happy to help with whatever is needed. The price for the room is really reasonable for the location and you are only sharing a bathroom with one room/two people max. The cooking facilities are very useful. The location is right by the beach, it takes a few minutes to walk to the area with restaurants and bars.

I have been to CR twice now, both times I've stayed in Coco.
I have been to CR twice now, both times I've stayed in Coco. The first time was a random selection based on a whim travel, but we had such an amazing time that we decided to bring more friends back 4 years later. We trained both times at Playa BJJ and did the sunset catamaran tour with Marlin del Rey both times. The second time, we rented a villa so we cooked alot of our own meals - the grocery stores, meat store, and fruit stands were amazing. The beach culture was great. A couple of us ended up using Uber and taxis - very manageable. Coconutz Brewhouse was great with their live music. El Capricho Mexican Restaurant & Bar was so much fun with a fishbowl drink and karaoke. Tortuga Bar was great. The boys hiked out to Isleta El Coco and had an amazing time. We hiked to La Leona waterfall - not super hard but requires mobility as you ramble alongside the rocky river for a few kilometers... absolutely worth it! We also went to Catarata Llanos del Cortes (another waterfall) where you can walk up to a lagoon and swim right in the waterfall. I would go back to Coco again - hands down.

The timing of our visit was great.
The timing of our visit was great. No crowds but hot, hot, hot and humid. April 27-May 3. Because so many people visit Costa Rica, the cost of food and just about everything isn't reasonable. We ate at the well known local restaurants which were expensive but good. Too much butter used with the fish, though I should have insisted on braised fish. We ate at Mar Azul. The Mexican restaurant was good. Note, for those who just jump in the car and pick a destination, beware that all the roads aren't paved. We went to Nosara and man-oh-man, though driving but ABSOLUTELY scenic. Glad we had a 4X4 and good ground clearance.

It is a family situation, very very basic.
It is a family situation, very very basic. Clean with a kitchen that had no cooking utilities other than a coffee maker & fridge that did not work.
I had a cooler, my own cooking supplies etc so it worked for me.
Radio & Tv could be a bit loud but shut down early.
I have lived in Latin America, so I understand a family situation where many may not!
I loved the hostess! I love the proximity to the beach in the downtown and if you don’t have a vehicle to get around, it’s perfect for that and super inexpensive! Bonuses for travellers who don’t want to be a hostel

Costa Rica is beautiful and the people are friendly and lovely to get to know. There are options for those who are active - think hiking through the rainforest, fishing, surfing or for relaxing - think sitting by the pool or ocean with a good book. The shopping is fun. There are animals and beautiful nature - volcanos, waterfalls, flowers to surround yourself with.

Easy drive from Liberia Airport.
Easy drive from Liberia Airport. The town is small enough to be friendly and just large enough to have what you need. The beach is nicely maintained and easy to access. The people was very friendly and although the language is Spanish, we didn't have any problems communicating.

Amazing views from the hills.
Amazing views from the hills. This is a quieter town but plenty of businesses to keep you entertained. CocoNutz and Zi Lounge are the most lively spots for night life. A variety of restaurants including Mexican, Italian, Indian, Mediterranean, BBQ and burgers. MegaSuper for groceries (had everything including liquor). I would happily stay here again.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It's just a block away from Coco Beach. It was nice to have an apartment with 2 bedrooms (only 1 bathroom though) when traveling with friends. Especially the big, comfortable veranda for shared time. We appreciated being able to use their laundry one night-just ask staff to help. It was a new concept for us to bring plates, etc. from our apartment kitchen, to get our breakfast, which was the usual fare, and plentiful. Very good air conditioners and Wi-fi. Everybody enjoyed the clean pool.
This is a beautiful hotel--truly lovely. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were super nice and down to earth. Staff helped us figure out transportation by calling around to various Car Rentals--just really above and beyond customer service. We also loved the building itself. Really, really pretty. Appreciated that there was hot water, delicious breakfast, and that it was generally just very peaceful. We enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up coming back at the end of our trip. Highly recommend Hotel Villa del Sol.
The property is beautiful and set two blocks back from the main beach, a short walk. The staff were very friendly and accommodating as we arrived early and stored our bags in the office while we sat poolside waiting for checkin. The room was very large with plenty of space to put our bags. We had a snack in the Garden Bar, which was delicious and very reasonable. The included breakfast was delicious and prepared on the spot after ordering. I would stay here again if I returned to Playas del Coco. A great choice!
Very quiet and peaceful area. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. Far enough from Coco Beach, yet close enough to enjoy the night life. Having the full kitchen was great and very useful. The residents are good and friendly people. If I decide to stay longer, I will definitely consider calling this home for a while.. FYI, I added an extra photo of the room instead of the lobby. Could have done at least 3 photos
The location was directly across from the beach and super close walking distance to all local shops & restaurants. The breakfast was really good and they had many options. The rooms were clean and came stocked with everything we could need. The WiFi was fast and we had no issues.
The hotel even let us adjust our dates the day before due to an issue with flights. All around amazing stay
The staff was some of the nicest people we ran into across our whole stay in Costa Rica. The location is outside of town, and town isn’t chaos by any means but it’s by far the best place on the beach in playas del coco. The vibe of the hotel is very chill and restaurant set up is gorgeous! The pool area is lovely and the pool man was very thorough of keeping it clean.
All the people who work at Hotel La Puerta del Sol are kind, welcoming and helpful! The breakfast is absolutely amazing!! The Garden Bar has many activities, great food and the pool area is so relaxing. Wifi is excellent! I felt very safe. I would definitely stay there again.
Amazing week in Jade Beach, we love the property, the pools, the proximity to the beach, to commodities like Java Cafe and Luperon. Lovely owners, condo is top! Coco village is not far from the residence. Quiet and peaceful, love it, sad to leave!
The room was clean, and it had hot water, a refrigerator and air conditioning, all good points. The hotel is a 30-minute drive from the airport. There is regular bus service to the airport turnoff and also to the city of Liberia.
the grounds are very nice ..the pools are big and 4 to choose ..you need to walk to other hotel to use a kiddie pool if that’s needed which I thought was a down side ..
Hotel located a few steps away from beach. Nice pool, good choice of breakfast. Staff very helpful and friendly. Plenty of hot water and toiletries in Bathroom.
I liked the location, and Amber was very accommodating . I highly recommend Toro Blanco for a Coco visit. Close to everything and away from the beach noise.
I LOVE IT HERE!!!! i would definitely come back to cocos just to stay here again. sary really made us feel like part of the family. she is the sweetest
