It is a bit of a walk up the hill from the town centre but its located in a quiet and very peaceful area, not far from a bus stop (that did not run when we visited, + no information about the transport in the town in general was available online or was inaccurate).
Clean bathroom, very comfortable beds, enough furniture to pack out if you wish, nice view into the garden. Coffee and tea, cups and spoons in the hallway at all times. Theres double door between the hall and the bedroom, one of which has a large mirror – very useful for sure, but I got scared every time I opened the first door thinking theres is someone else opening the door from the other side too, haha.

A lovely traditional German town
Good restaurants, bars etc
A lovely traditional German town

Good location to explore the Harz Mountains
Try the local cable car - for breath-taking views from the top
However, the location is now a testimony to global warming and devastation of the surrounding forests
If you were a climate denier before - you will not be after a visit - unfortunately
Although this should not distract you from visiting the Braunlage area!

Braunlage is a cute small town in the National Park of Harz.
Braunlage is a cute small town in the National Park of Harz.
It's ideal for skiing in winter, as it is a ski resort, and in spring-autumn is perfect for hiking and cicling.
Broken is close by and it's worth the visit.
It also has a very nice boulder hall for those that like to go climbing.
Also, the cafe of the boulder hall has great selection of home made cakes (vegan friendly, and also good for persons allergic to milk) and the coffee is delicious. Ideal for a break during climbing sesions.

A great spot to start hiking trips from, especially the Wurmberg, the highest point in the area, is a really good place to hike to or take the cable car to the top. In corona times the only difficulty was to find a restaurant in the evening because you had to reserve a table and there were not as many restaurants as people who want to eat. If you want to eat around 16 or 17 o'clock dinner it was ok. I can recommend the Kleine Auszeit and Ristorante & Pizzeria Rialto.
And there were also some takeaway possibilities. They even have mulled wine outside with some seats at Harzer Spezialitäten & Brotzeitstube puppe's.
I can recommend visiting the Kurpark it is really nicely done but is a bit hidden from the main street.
Almost every restaurant was within walking distance for us, but it was quite steep when we had to walk back to our hotel. Only the supermarkets were farther away. There is a bus also to take one to hiking spots, but we did not use them.

Braunlage is centrally and conveniently located in the German Harz hill range, with great public transport - ideally suited as starting point for hikes or mountain bike runs.
The town itself is small and fairly nice, nothing much special.
The only reason to be less happy in my rating is that though my hotel and host were really wonderful - alas the staff in several restaurants in the town were blunt to say the least, and sometimes all the way to rude. I attribute this to being spoilt, and getting guests too easily, or maybe it's hard to find the right staff. It was an unpleasant experience.

The area itself seems very nice, with plenty to do.
The area itself seems very nice, with plenty to do.
However the restaurants all seem to be staffed by unpleasant rude people.
I have travelled and lived all over Germany, and this is the first town where I have experienced this.
The beautiful wooden lodge is a very cosy and comfortable house - fully equipped with a good kitchen, spacious bathroom with sauna and a large garden. The stove allows for making a nice fire in the evening - plenty of wood freely available. Very good beds. Nice garden Seats and a sofa. Modern large television incl Netflix. Superb WiFi and Bose sound system. Location is superb : overlooking a ski slope/meadow and at a quiet street yet at 5 mins walk from Braunlage’s center with plenty of restaurants and shops.
Great place for motorbikes. Secure parking space available in garage. The host was easily available by phone when we asked last minute to extend by a day due to illness. Very spacious apartment, (4 adults max - king bed, single and sofa bed) with full bathroom and a downstairs toilet and an outdoor balcony. Couldn’t be better situated Right in the middle of Braunlage and the Harz mountains. We would definitely choose to stay here again.
Awesome location, very quiet and close to the forest. Even accessible by public transportation (bus). The provided breakfast was nice and tasty.
The staff is very friendly, helpful and passionated. Stayed there during summer - perhaps this hotel is also an interesting base for winter holidays, as the entrance of a cross-country ski run is just around the corner.
Nice little hotel in the quiet part of town. Staff was incredibly helpful and nice. Amazing breakfast with fresh bread, bacon omelet on request, fruit salad and many other options. You have to also try the musli, it's the best I've ever had. Very clean, nice facilities, ample parking in the hotel courtyard.
Nice, complete breakfast. Something for everyone. No warm foods though. '
The rooms was clean and spacious. the bathroom was large and very clean. The hotel was full but we didnt hear anyone. Plenty of space for everyone in our family of 5 and our dog.
At only a short walk from the center of Braunlage, Hotel Paidion provided for a relaxing respite after a day of hiking in the Harz. The staff was friendly, the rooms were modern and recently renovated, and the facilities far exceeded our expectations.
The Staff was very friendly..the Hotel reminds me of a moves from the 70's and cool...the Food was good . Rooms are big and clean..The Pool is big ..Our daughter ( 5) loved it ...and a Indoor playground..a very famliy friendly hotel...
The hotel is placed very well in the city center close to tourist attractions. The personnel is friendly. Breakfast is tasty and enough. A parking place is next to the building. We were with our children and spent a good time.
Very warm and happy welcome .
The cosy aspect of the hotel . The feeling of being at home.
The owners are lovely people with a big heart, they certainly made sure we were taken care of.
Fantastic Breakfast!
The Hotel has a nice and easy going vibe to it. It's relaxed, young and cozy. I guess it's more of a place for Couples but it's fine Solo as well. I did really enjoy the Sauna and liked the bar a lot.
The location for My vacation purpose MTB and Road biking was excellent, the hotel allso provideda a locked garage for bikes. The cosy "home feeling" the staff provided. The restaurant is excellent.
Very nice hotel. Great location for hiking in Nationalpark Harz. Our room was on the ground floor and had a door into the hotel's garden, and we could often see birds hopping on the grass.
Spacious apartment, nice balcony, plenty of utensils and glasses. Close to the area's attractions and to the center of Braunlage without being in a busy area.
