FAQs about hotels in Potsdam
On average, 3-star hotels in Potsdam cost £77 per night, and 4-star hotels in Potsdam are £91 per night. If you're looking for something really special, a 5-star hotel in Potsdam can on average be found for £103 per night (based on Booking.com prices).
Potsdam holds a pivotal place in German history. The country’s largest UNESCO World Heritage Site – Park Sanssouci – stands testament to the wealth of the kings and kaisers who once held court there. Yellow Sanssouci Palace is somewhat overshadowed by stepped gardens leading up to it from a fountain. A long path leads off at a right angle to the red-coloured New Palace, adorned with statues and a green dome.
Nestled in the intermediate grounds are the Italianate Roman Baths and Orangery, and understated Charlottenhof Palace. Trees hide the botanical gardens, while the gaudy gold Chinese tea house is unmissable. The park even has a grand train station and Dutch-style windmill.
Red gabled houses line the Dutch Quarter, and wooden houses characterise the Russian colony Alexandrowka. One of the city Christmas markets is in Weberviertel amid former homes of Bohemian weavers. Nearby, Filmpark Babelsberg is the world’s oldest film studio and Babelsberg Palace was a royal summer retreat.
In the New Garden by 2 of the city’s many lakes is half-timbered Cecilienhof Palace, where the historic, post-war conference between Churchill, Truman and Stalin led to the Potsdam Agreement and Declaration which shaped the face of Europe.
Booking.com’s Potsdam accommodation includes hotels near the Brandenburg Gate, old town guest houses and city centre apartments.

A very walkable city with good transport links to Berlin ( a S- bahn train every 10 mins). Park SansSouci was worth seeing,.
Lots of nice restaurants, coffee shops and bakeries everywhere. Easy day trip from Berlin although an overnight stay would allow more time for a relaxed stay and to take in all the attractions.

Before I list the pros & cons, it is important to note that this review does not reflect Germany as a whole or other cities in Germany. I have not met Germans from other major cities so I simply cannot compare what I saw; however, my review is based on pure observation, and my intention is not to give a collective opinion about a specific nation.
Pros: The city is very clean and organized, hospitals are all over the place, and finally the stores, restaurants, and shopping areas are great.
Cons: You have to understand that this city is not for tourists at all. It is crystal clear that it's full of locals and it will be very rare to see any tourists around. The locals (who made it clear to us on several occasions are not in need of tourism), many of them see visiting tourists as a burden and not a blessing. Mid-aged to old Germans are non-English speakers, and young Germans are (it's fascinating how a full generation knows one language and the other doesn't). If you stop someone on the street to help you out, they rarely will go out of their way to do so. Germans lead private lives, it is an individualistic culture, and they get paid high wages so do not expect them to want tourists anywhere around their cities and neighborhoods. It is also clear that the majority do not care what type of impression international travelers have about their country. They see themselves self self-sufficient and that is the most polite way I can summarize my visit.
I hope this review helps, good luck.

The park is lovely to wander around, with grand palaces, beautiful gardens and art galleries to visit. The town centre and Dutch Quarter are worth visiting and also the Cecilienhof where the Potsdam Conference is definitely worth seeing.

Lots to see and historically all very interesting with beautiful palaces. Plenty of restaurants/ cafes and shops to wander about. The centre is flat and manageable. The Potsdam bus is a good way to see it and get around.
Staying in Potsdam has a more relaxing ambience than Berlin, but a day trip to Berlin and the hop on/ off bus there is within easy reach, if you research the links beforehand.

I mostly enjoyed Sanssuci park where I spent many hours in total bliss. did not have much time to visit the rest of the city.
I found out that most of the restaurants did not have menus in English and for the most part, waiters did not speak English and were unwilling to assist. One even said to me, "we don't serve tourists"!
it is easy to get around but not easy to get information in languages other than German.

Ideal for walking around.
Ideal for walking around. I visited the central places like the Sancousi Palace and Cecilienhof Garden. My hotel was also well suited to visiting the House of the Wannsee Conference, which I went to on my last full day. This is really worth visiting.
The accommodation/ facilities are all good, comfy and warm.
The host made our stay very welcome.
The location is good.
The tram /bus services into Potsdam run frequently and take 10-15 stoping on route at the side of the mainline Railway which links into the trains for Berlin etc.
The staff in the tourist information centre in the station were very helpful and informative.
We really enjoyed our 10 day stay exploring this beautiful part of Germany.
The other positive reviews were right on. Ease of parking, very very nice owners/managers of the hotel, who were both very helpful, accommodating, and friendly. Even greeted affectionately by a warm friendly lab. Room was really clean and had necessary toiletries and all the little details. Including a wireless mobile charger. Might be the first we’ve seen that available. Great stay and would definitely go back.
It was a very warm room. We read some comments that in summer it may get very hot in rooms. But in winter it was perfectly warm. The beds were medium to hard very nice for a good sleep. The covers were a little bit short but it was not a problem for a warm room.
Also there is a good restaurant Toscana located just two steps from a back door of the hotel.
Perfect location after spending the day exploring palaces. There are many restaurants in the area. Enjoyed the Steak House connected to the Hotel. Plus, the associate at the Reception Desk was very friendly and helpful. We all enjoyed talking to him and the information shared.
The lady who looked like she had more experience, was very helpful and after I talked with the booking.com to cancel my reservation, offered various rooms until finally offered the room 214 (I wish she did it from the beginning ).
The breakfast had a nice variety.
Extremely helpful and friendly staff. They recommended and sold us the 24 hour public transport tickets that gave us the freedom to roam all over Potsdam. The bus stops straight in front of the hotel. Sanssouci Park was only a few stops or a short walk away.
Location, Ambiance, Staff Helpful, Breakfast, Parking across the street, Staff Offered to Move our Bags from one room to next on the 2nd day, Very Clean, Nice Amenities. Hotel Brandenburger Tor provides all you'd expect from a European Hotel.
It was a nice studio with a well-equipped kitchen. It is nicely located in Potsdam as well. There are some small issues like no shower gel and partly clogged shower drain as may be the case with guesthouses, but it was nothing major.
Modern hotel overlooking lake across the road from S bahn station which is about 10 minutes from Potsdam and 30 from central Berlin. Quiet surroundings with balcony. Very extensive good breakfast. Good value ( was low season ).
A stylish, large room with all facilities. Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast (at modest extra cost). Hotel was in the historical centre of Potsdam. Parking house on 5 min walking.
Small family room, but great use of space and very modern / clean. Easy walk to centre / palaces. Great shower, decent breakfast, good value for money (cheap for Potsdam).
This is a very nice and clean hotel in Potsdam and easily accessible by tram.
Room was spacious and comfortable and had all amenities. Breakfast was good.
