Stade it my favorite town in Germany. Very beautiful with a rich history (the Danish, the Swedes, Napoleon, Kingdom Hannover, Prussia, etc. Arp Schnittger organs), picturesque, calm, and close to the fruit-growing area of the Altes Land.
Bit of a sleeper town. There is a very cozy square. Super tacky food and really bad cocktails most places unfortunately Tried to find an establishment with a bit higher standards with no luck. If you stick with beer it will be ok.
Charming old town with almost alle buildings from 1650 approx. because of fire. After the fire, the town was rebuilt in exactly the same way as the previous town with narrow streets. The area near the harbour, Wasser West and Wasser Ost, is very charming. The green areas around the town are perfect for walking or biking.
Stade is a wonderfully historic Hansa town ringed by waterways. Narrow cobbled streets, mediaeval buildings, modern shopping, numerous restsurants, and pleasant countryside around. We only spent an afternoon in the town itself, and would have enjoyed longer to visit the musrum and explore in more depth.
If you want pictoresque, small town Germany, you should go to Stade. Hard to beat if in northern Germany. You could even commute to Hamburg via train. And while in Stade, don't miss the nearby Elbblick café, not so much for the food, but for some pleasant ship-viewing while eating an average lunch.
As opposed to Buxtehude next door, a small medieval city with genuine flair, Apparently no war damage. Stade feels real, is well kept up, has hardly an empfy storefront but many very nice shops. You can tell that this town was once really rich, and today’s inhabitants take very good care of it. As I said: as opposed to Buxtehude.
Stade
This visit was durng the Corona-time - I liked that the hotel was open for guests - I liked the friendly staff - and I liked the breakfast. I probably also would have liked the restaurant - but because of Corona it was closed. It´s easy to go to the city of Stade from Hartlef´s Guesthouse - or to Wischhafen so you can take the ferry-boat to Glückstadt in Schleswig-Holstein
Stade
The property was exceptional, clean and and very comfortable (location was very central and perfect for us!). All the amenities you need are literally on your doorstep. Communications from the host had been excellent (Thank you Victoria for all of your help!). We are frequent visitors to Stade and will certainly not be staying anywhere else in the future.
Large suite with kitchenette and tea and coffee making facilities. Superb location for access to all the Stade town centre has to offer. High quality breakfast, great views over the harbour (although other side from our room we were able to walk round side/front of the roof terrace) Free parking always a plus.
Stade
The location of the apartment is perfect. Right in the centre of the old town. The apartment is very beautifully decorated and has everything you need to enjoy a stay in Stade. It has two toilets which was a great plus. The availability of the parking facility is very handy.
The staff was great, and the breakfast was wonderful. I slept well. The scenery close to the hotel is beautiful. The train station could be reached by walking. The skyline of old Stade is magnificent with some house boats on the water in front.
Everything was perfect: location, room, bed, bathroom, breakfast, helpful staff. Absolutely stunning Stade.
