People are extremely welcoming and friendly. They NEED tourists and will go out of their way to help. The little buses -license plates starting with H - are so easy, frequent and cheap to get around that you are better off using these than renting a car.
But if I had known in advance what I know now, I would have booked in Roseau and visited from there. Unless you go upper-class like the truly beautiful Secret Bay, or go diving (and I could recommend the French Crabits Diving Center) Portsmouth is perhaps only a one day visit.
Steven and the entire staff made my stay in Dominica a pleasant and special time! Everyone at the hotel was caring and very helpful, no matter whether it was about suggestions for daytrips, phonecalls or appointments, providing any information or help that I needed.
Breakfast was delicious, everything was freshly prepared and I got some extras for free.
There are interesting sights near the hotel, like Indian River, Cabrits National Park, and beautiful beaches.
I would definitely like to go there again!
We loved the spectacular location, which offered easy access to hiking and snorkeling. The gardens on the property are beautiful , and there are incredible sunset views over the Caribbean from the pool.
It is a totally relaxing atmosphere. The hotel staff are friendly and attentive. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed,as well as immaculately clean.
The food is delicious. We especially loved the local specialties in the menu and enjoyed the selection of bush rums.
This is a great hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. My apartment was lovely and suitably equipped, with one balcony overlooking the river and a larger one on the other side. Very quiet location and not far to the nearest beach. The restaurant downstairs does good food although I think that the breakfast was slightly overpriced at US$10 for what you got, but for evening meals the prices were comparable to elsewhere.
We had such a lovely stay at The Champs. The rooms have everything you need along with little touches like cold water in the fridge and nice body wash and shampoo. There was a table and chairs so you could sit on the balcony and enjoy the breathtaking view. The staff were incredible. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay relaxing and enjoyable. The fresh baked bread... just wow!
The staff are very friendly/helpful and the location in Portsmouth is perfect just on the edge of town. The hotel sits right on the beachfront ideal for swimming, snorkelling and perfect for watching the setting sun. There is a reef right next to the pier you can spend hours snorkelling and observing the marine life, the hotel lends out snorkelling gear for free.
I really enjoyed the cuisine there. Food is very tasty!
Staff was very helpful and welcoming. The room was very clean and comfy. The furniture is very modern and the appliances are sooo up to date.
Loved the lighting at night. The view is spectacular and the location of the hotel is very private. I loved every bit of it 😊 Will be planning my future stays there.
Location, location, location, right on a wonderful beach! Swim-able and walkable, water temperatures amazing! Beautifully kept grounds with very accommodating staff, very good security. Easy walking distance to several restaurants in Picard, the actual location of Portsmouth Beach Hotel. This was important as there are not any cooking facilities in the rooms.
The pop up restaurant was great-the food was tasty & well presented. Kudos to the chef & staff-they we're very welcoming-Marva, Keanne, Alicia(hope I got the names correct). The service & food at the restaurant were the positive highlights at the hotel.
The staff made all attempts to facilitate requests for transportation & room issues.
A one bedroom unit in a four story motel located next to a river and about a 10 minute walk to the ocean. This motel has an on site restaurant and about 6-10 parking spaces out front. Located off the main road this is a quiet place to stay near Portsmouth. They have daily maid service also.
Every corner of this hotel had a picture perfect view of the island. It was absolutely stunning. The views, the scenery, the grounds were incredible. The beautiful landscape with the gardens and pools! Breathtaking
Cottages were comfortable and nicely situated close to the beach.
The staff were friendly and tried to assist.
The hotel did move me to a more accessible room when I was on crutches week 2.
Sounds of the river near the hotel were so relaxing.
Ladies working at the front desk were very nice and kind. We mostly communicated with Jennel and she was so helpful.
