Mindo has a lot of wonderful nature options. Feeding hummingbirds, the BEST butterfly gardens we have ever visited and we have been to many & really good bird watching - we used Sandra & Romelly at Bird Paradaisio (sp) & had alot of fun & Romelly drove us back safely to Quito but took us on an extra bird sighting trip on the way that was super - wonderful too! The trails to the waterfalls was a lot of fun & the falls are worth the trek although these out of shape older folks didn't make it to them all. The chocolate tour at Yumbos led by Amir was wonderful! We enjoyed both the tarabita & telerifico rides although the last was a bit scary, terrific views! Prices for everything was very reasonable, food may be a bit higher than rest of Ecuador but not too bad. Limited options though as most menus looked almost the same. One place we would definitely come back to. Only the food options were a little lacking. Everything else was fun & it was nice to be out of big cities.

Mindo has so many things to do.
Mindo has so many things to do. We took a ride on the cable car (Tabita) and then hiked to see the 5 waterfalls. We toured a butterfly house and took a coffee tour. The town is small so walking was the way to explore. We only needed a taxi to get to the hiking. Definitely take a truck taxi since the roads are rough and windy to get to the top. Our driver gave us his phone number to call him when were finished hiking. There are so many different restaurants to choose from and very good prices. We enjoyed our two night stay at the El Descanso where we saw so many tropical birds (especially hummingbirds) right off the back patio.

Mindo is a lovely little town, famous for chocolate, butterflies and waterfalls! Although there’s a lot of activities, you can get through most of them in 2 days, which makes it a great weekend travel destination.
Temperatures are usually mild due to it being in the clouds.

I've visited here twice, once in 2001 and the second time in 2023. I would say it has actually improved quite a lot in that time; the road into town is better, and the facilities in the area are much better. There are some much better restaurants and small cafes, and more "fun" activities available than there used to be. At the same time, the development hasn't been allowed to run rampant, so it still has the feel of a small town in the subtropics.
We liked the hotel location, a couple of blocks past downtown, away from noise. The hotel staff, especially Margarita, was very friendly and gave us good advice on what sites to visit and at what time of day. Our rooms were large, clean with super-comfy beds. There was plenty of hot water in the bathroom. The breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, eggs prepared to order, and some delicious yuca tortillas with cheese. Service was quick, friendly and accommodating. Overall a a very nice stay.
The family that run Mindo Real are exceptionally thoughtful and helpful. We liked them a lot. They provided lots of information on arrival & throughout the stay in person & via WhatsApp. The location was great for us. 10 minute walk into Mindo, but on the edge of the forest areas with the river at the end of the garden. Lovely & quiet with a decent sized swimming pool. Breakfasts were also very good. The beautifully landscaped gardens were full of interesting plants which attracted lots of birds.
The breakfast was absolutely amazing! Unlike everywhere else in Ecuador, you will get a delicious Middle Eastern breakfast. Olives, omelette, pita, even homemade lebneh! The couple who runs this place are incredibly kind and super helpful. I loved my little cabin on the river. It was so wonderful to hear the river every night as I was going to bed. There's also a swinging chair on the porch overlooking the river where I sat for hours just reading.
We stayed three nights at Mindoxtrem Birds along New Years Eve. For two nights the room next to us was empty so it was very quiet. The accomodation was very clean and the terrace had a beautiful view, we could see a lot of birds. To walk to the centre it was just 10 minutes. For two people the room was big enough, for three people it would have been a bit small. The shower was great, hot water was available.
The location was a 10 minute walk from the town centre which is perfect for quiet and for nature. The grounds of the hotel are a beautiful garden and it is not far from the river. The staff are very attentive and friendly and they were helpful when we wanted to organise activities and food. The breakfast was very enjoyable. The room was beautiful and clean and had all the amenities we needed.
Fantastic situation, it is at only 8 minutes walk from the village Mindo on a flat road.... In Mindo we could rent electric bikes and electric quads to get around.... The suites are surrounded of nature ans we were delighted of the colibris, toucans and colorful butterflies flying around us... the pool and the jacuzzi are very clean and pleasant.... the breakfast was very nice as well
This house was perfect and exceptionally beautiful. it had everything we needed plus more.
We extended our stay here in Mindo. The location was perfect to do and see everything.
The beds were comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed. The shower was nice and hot also.
The staff were very kind and helpful with everything we needed.
Great spot for birders and anyone wanting to enjoy a comfortable spot in the cloud forest. Close enough to Mindo that you can enjoy the town while still feeling like you are fully in nature. Get the beautiful canopy house and enjoy the views across the valley. Wonderful hospitality from owner Fernando who took great care of our family!
Very big and clean rooms! Perfect for family or couple! The hosts recently started their business, but they are so welcoming. The location is great, right next to the main Plaza of Mindo. The garden is very cute and they will develop soon an art gallery and coffee place. Would definitely come back! Highly recommend it.
The room looked into forest and was great for birdwatching. Fresh fruit and fresh pastries with eggs for breakfast. Nearby Mindo River. Best part was host Paola who was very warm and engaging. Went on chocolate tour with Paola and enjoyed her sweet cat Luna. Pleasant walk into town partly on a dirt road.
This hotel in Mindo is a short walk away from Mindo's main street with cafés, restaurants, shops and travel agencies. The walk is very safe, even at night time. The orchid garden is charming, teeming with lush tropical vegetation and orchids of every possible variety. The shower had nice hot water.

loved this hotel! lovely views of surrounding nature everywhere, friendly staff, a nice little path to wander around each day, sweet dogs on site, and a great eating/sitting/working area with views of the river. I definitely recommend this property!
Everything was exceptional. The breakfasts and dinners were outstanding. The amenities and thoughtfulness of the staff were truly exceptional. When I come back to Ecuador, the Coffee Lodge and Spa will be on my "must stay at" list.
The hotel was set in a lovely location and only a 15 minute walk to town. Even had a beautiful blue hummingbird visit our room every morning. Had a kitchen which can be used to cook. Only thing missing was a microwave.
It is really beautiful. It is far from downtown Mindo and you with need a high car to get there because of four little rivers that you need to cross, but it is beautiful.
Exceptional host. Very caring and gave very good tips for exploring Mindo. Excellent home cooked food. Beautiful and artistic accommodation. Very comfortable.
