Stanley was very busy when thousands of cruise passengers showed up, and virtually empty on non-cruise days. The place is very friendly, and it's easy to find your way around. There is a serious shortage of rental cars, which was apparent since even on non-cruise-ship days no one had any available. The museum is quite good. However, you have to find a tour and get out of town to the unique penguin and battlefield areas. There is not a full week's worth of activities in the town itself.

Stanley is the best place to be whenever you want to switch off from the outer world. The internet is poor and expensive. That´s a good point. You meet British and naturally polite people. The cost of living is high, since it is a remote island. However, the ride is definitely worthwhile. I wouldn't avoid anything in Stanley. The place is calm, no thieves at all. I ate in good restaurants such as Malvina House Hotel and Waterfront Boutique Hotel. However, we have other reasonable good choices there. Don't lose the opportunity to eat sheep there (there are 500.000 of them there! And, in the end, don't forget to buy some rememberings to your friends from Stanley. TS Pod, Capstan, The Ping Gallery and the Store of Waterfront Boutique Hotel are the most recommended places. It is not that easy to reach Stanley, However, a direct weekly flight leaving Sao Paulo to the Islands made the life much easier every Wednesday. The other choice is the Saturday flight from Punta Arenas (Chile).

Stanley is the capital of the Falkland Islands and is an essential part of any trip here to understand the history, culture and people before venturing to more remote parts of the islands. A visit the the Museum in Stanley ( located opposite to the malvina hotel) is a must. From Stanley you can do day trips by 4x4 vehicles to wild life destination (eg volunteer point for penguins) or historic war sites (eg goose green). The best restaurant in town is the Waterfront Kitchen Cafe offering delicious breakfast , lunch and dinner made with top clsss ingredients. It also has a lovely cosy lounge for a pre or post dinner drink.
