L'accueil au top. Et la déco est vraiment originale.
Chartres is a French medieval town in the Eure-et-Loir department, about 90 km from Paris. Home to historic 16th-century buildings, half-timber houses, narrow streets and large squares, this well preserved city will amaze you with its beauty.
The 13th-century Cathedral of Chartres is the city’s main landmark and a famous site of Christian pilgrimage. Featuring 18th-century stained-glass windows and a stunning façade with bas-relief sculptures and stone statues, this UNESCO World Heritage is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in France.
On the back side of the Cathedral, travellers will find a Grass Labyrinth, date back to around 1200. According to the tradition, pilgrims used to go to the centre of the labyrinth in order to receive the grace of God.
The Massacre Bridge is one of the bridges crossing the Eure River, which flows right to the heart of the old part of the city. Chartres has also beautiful churches like the St. Aignan and the St. Martin-au-Val.
Chartres Train Station offers direct trains to Paris and Booking.com will help you find a hotel close to the station, in the city centre or in the nearby cities of Lucé and Mainvilliers.

The cathedral is not to be missed.
The cathedral is not to be missed. Even if you're not big on churches or old buildings you will be impressed by the truly amazing cleaning and restoration work that has been done over the last two years or so and is still going on. The immediate surroundings include many attractive old buildings and several cafés and restaurants.

Central Chartres is a mix of old and new with many historical buildings and of course the amazing cathedral. Lots of lovely local restaurants ranging from brasseries to Greek/Turkish family cooking and people are very friendly. Loved walking along the river to get different perspectives of the cathedral

Whilst the amazing Cathedral of Chartres must be its main draw, the city centre itself is well worth a visit, being a mass of mediaeval lanes and alleys fully of lovely old buildings as well as lots of shops and eateries. The river Eure also flows through the city and a walk along it is recommended.
One further piece of entertainment not to miss are the various light shows projected every night onto various walls, bridges and churches as well as the cathedral. Extraordinary does not do the show justice.
Overall a great place to visit for a weekend - 2 days (and nights) would probably be enough.

Lovely little town, very contained and walkable.
Lovely little town, very contained and walkable. There are many restaurants everywhere as it is a definite tourist town. 2 days is more than long enough to visit and see everything, it would also be fine for a day trip from Paris.

A terrific gem of a city.
A terrific gem of a city. Very walkable with many great cafes and bistros. Not the typical American tourist spot, but we felt welcomed. The Cathedral is so amazing and worthy of several hours to appreciate it. Tours are available and worth it. If your visit is in summer, the city night light show is very unique and artistic. Take the tiny train to see it all. Great home base location to visit nearby chateaus too. The local TI wasn't as helpful (although their building is very cool) as the Chartres visitors center across the street from the front of the Cathedral.
This is an elegant hotel with exceptionally well-trained staff throughout. The rooms are spacious and attractive with luxurious bedding and towels. The fitness room is small but complete. They even keep it cool, which many hotels do not. The hotel parking lot is about one block away but the staff will help you retrieve your car and load or unload your bags. The breakfast buffet is interesting and delicious, and the upscale restaurant, Le Georges, afforded us one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had.
This is the PERFECT location in Chartres. It is not expensive and isn't fancy BUT the staff are wonderful, the parking is great and the breakfast is very nice as well. With the number of one way streets in Chartre, it takes some effort to find the hotel when driving but their directions are adequate as one gets closer. We will stay no place else in Chartres any time in the future. We love this hotel.
B&B have taken over the hotel from IBIS hotels. I have stayed there before and from memory nothing has changed, which is good. Location is good, being very close to Chartres cathedral and the old town. Local parking in the hotel grounds is reasonable. Illuminations between dusk and 01:00 are well worth staying up for, especially the cathedral animations.
Super friendly staff at check in. Nice to have the small kitchen to cook in. My only two requests would be to have the instructions for the appliances also in English and to provide more than one bit of soap for washing dishes. Otherwise the stay was great and we were super happy to be in nice walking distance for Chartres en lumbiere.
The accommodation was in a good location, about 10 minutes easy walking to the lovely town centre. Our host was friendly and helpful, and there was safe parking for our car.
The breakfast was French style, with nice bread/pastries, jam, fruit , yoghurt etc.
If we were in this part of `France again, we would definitely stay here again.
Novotel Chartres is a modern light and airy hotel with excellent staff and facilities. Novotel is more expensive than most of the other hotels we stay in when on the road. However they are great value for money. The restaurant offers food and service which is excellent. Try the noix de St Jacques with the Chablis for a real treat.
This apartment is beautifully remodeled with an amazing kitchen with quality appliances and enough space to cook! The bathroom is large, well lit, a glass jewel box shower and a large towel warmer. Beautifully designed with attention to details. We loved the location and view of the Chartres Cathedrale, and lots of windows!
An ideal stopover between the channel ports and the South of France. Exceptional breakfast. Brilliant location, just a short walk from the cathedral and local restaurants. The staff were extremely helpful. We hope to return in the future.
The staff, especially Thomas, was great. The hotel is clean and updated. Breakfast was perfect. Close to city and parking for both hotel and visit to Cathedral were easy. Enjoyed dinner at Cafe Bleu. Good stop right off motor way.
I had a great stay at L'HÔTEL de CHARTRES. The hotel is owned by a lovely family who were kind and helpful. Location is great (walking distance to everywhere in town) and the room was nice and clean.
The room was very functional. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. The staff were efficient and friendly. The location was good on our journey from the South of France heading for the Eurotunnel.
We rented two units and the bigger one was very large and accommodating for a family. Great kitchen, lots of beds, clean, and across the street from Aldi. 20 min walk to Chartres Cathedral
We could see the Cathedral right out of our window and be inside withing 2 minutes. The person running the hotel was excellent, helpful, conversational and had a great personality.
One of the best stays I have experienced in France. The location was next to the Cathedral! The room was spacious and facilities excellent. The host was so welcoming and helpful.
Great service, staff speak perfect English. Central location, secure car park. We stay regularly en route to southern France. Perfect stopover, always at a reasonable price.
