Great city with lots of interesting areas. Although it felt 'edgy' with a lot of (often attractive) graffiti etc, it felt safe. People were kind and polite. It certainly did not live up to its dangerous, seedy, rough reputation. It is cultured, artistic and friendly. Great food and a large variety of unique quarters. We will be back.

Good and interesting place. Went down-hill over the decades.
Good and interesting place. Went down-hill over the decades. Visited with kids, good and friendly Arab community in the streets, keeping up the small business and the city alive. Teargas shot every 10 min while we were cris crossing the downtown area. Business goes on and continues, while street battles are fought. Train station full of junkies. Good place for kids to learn about the real world. Maybe too real. Restaurants are no longer affordable if you don't drive a Lamborghini. Forget getting any good food if you have no reservation. La Boheme is gone.

From the airport you can take the shuttle bus to train station in Marseille, train station is a little far to reach from airport, so shuttle is the good option ,cheap and fast. From the train station is metro (two lines) and busses to reach every corner of the city. Is a must to be on the old docks, there are restaurants with good prices city tour bus with hop on-off option(keep the recipe !),cruise ferries or long distance ferries to reach Algerie, Maroc and other destinations ,saturday and sunday are market there and sometimes some entertainers to make some money and to give some extra memories to tourists. There are some interesting museums that are worth to try(go also at the Cosquer Méditerranée,is not cheap but it worth it!!!) and in the first sunday of the month on most of it is free entrance. Also is good to visit the cathedrals, specially the Bazilica Notre-Dame de la Garde, reach by the tourist bus other is a lot to climb,is almost perfect for a top view of the city and mountains.Old streets are narrow so let the car at home, from the first day you will know why..and for the beaches fans, they have some beaches but sorry, is not the perfect place to search it since the city is at the base of the mountains but the history heritage of the city is super, also can be found some forts and the National park des Calanques with hiking and a lot more of oportunities, so Marseille is a city worth to visit and there are a lot of things to do, make a good itinerary and will be great.

The food selection and the choices are just great and every place we went was just fantastic ,almost all people we approached were able to communicate in English (giant improvement) they were friendly and helpful and funny .what the city can improve is the cleanliness and number of homeless and drunks on the street in some parts they are just everywhere and especially when we arrived to main bus/train station we were shocked but it improves as you move away from that part of the city

Marseille offers a great cultural experience in southern...
Marseille offers a great cultural experience in southern France. There is a lot to see if you're looking to immerse yourself in a thorough tour of the city and its culture. However, if you're planning to spend your time on the beach and relax in the area, I recommend against it. The noise of the city is very noticeable, and the beaches aren't the most pleasant for relaxation, as they aren't well-kept. It's possible I visited during the wrong season, but there is still some work needed on the infrastructure. Give Marseille some time before deciding on it as your destination. I must say, however, that there is some culture here waiting to be discovered. Marseille is rich in history, and there are incredible hidden gems to be found, although the city makes it exhausting to do so.
It's a great destination for discovering French culture, but not ideal for a relaxing vacation by the seaside.
Great location in the center of Marseille, just a few footsteps from Vieux Port and all relevant bus/metro stations. Very quiet as the windows do look into a nice courtyard with plants. Very well maintained apartment - complete refurbishment seems less than 2 years ago and all technical items like lamps and heaters worked well. Kitchen equipment with no ditches or scratches. Even dishwasher salt and tabs have been provided! Big freezer with sufficient icebox. Lots of tourist guides in the bookshelf available. Good bed and cosy linen.
The location is beautiful and perfectly placed with good connectivity. The Vieux Port metro and bus stops just in front of the hotel. Lots of good food options nearby. The ships to go to Calanques start from the port in front of the hotel. Very good view of the port from the room. The hotel provides a good breakfast option at a reasonable price. The staff are very good and they speak very good English.
Great hotel! Nice rooms, good location for a conference at the Vieux Port and for access to nearby food. They did not have a full service restaurant at the time I was there, which was actually perfect - they had a small menu of high-quality items + drinks in a very casual but comfortable setting so I could just read a novel while having dinner without feeling out of place. Breakfast was amazing also.
The room is well equipped with all necessary for a long stay: washing machine, kettle, dish washing machine, vacuum machine and big fridge. The location is right at the Vieux Port - city centre and there’s a lot of good restaurants and convenient stores around. Friendly staff - Mr. Marc who take care a lot during our stay. Highly recommend for your stay in Marseille
The beds were very comfortable. The hotel was just 10 min walking distance to vieux port. The tram station was also just in front of the hotel. The first room we got was looking outside and it was on the E floor (E floor was between 0 and 1). It was noisy. Then we asked to change the room and received a room looking into the courtyard which was very silent.
Beautiful place, very clean. Appreciated that laundry detergent was available. Location was perfect being on the quieter side of the vieux port but still close enough to everything. The way we picked up keys was interesting and convenient that you could go at any time since we got in super late.
Our room (suite - it included an extra single bedroom which was really useful for reorganising the contents of our suitcases) had a balcony and wonderful views across Marseilles Vieux Port. The hotel was in an excellent location for bars and restaurants overlooking the water too.
Close to Vieux Port Metro and La Canebiere shopping area, good transport connection to other parts of Marseille. Surrounding area has good restaurants. Hotel was better than expected, good size room and quiet with a comfortable bed would choose this hotel again.
The hostel is a really nice place to stay in Marseille for some nights. I really liked the good location of the hostel just a few minutes walking from the Vieux Port. The beds were comfortable and the room clean. I liked the kitchen because it was quite spacious.
Been here 7 years ago, due to the location which is 3 minutes of work from the Vieux port metro station, so with the same reason I am choosing this hotel again due to its location. The room is very good, and there are convenient store nearby.
Great hotel to spend one night when having a early train from Marseille St. Charles, the hotel is not far from the Vieux Port and the staff was super helpful in showing our way around and recommending a great restaurant for the evening.
We really enjoyed our stay in Staycity aparthotel Marseille. It was very close to the vieux port which suited us perfectly . It was very clean and felt extremely safe! I have to say the staff were so helpful and welcoming aswell
The staff is amazing, the room is clean and cozy, there is a microwave + minifridge + sink + plates + cutlery. I've been to 6 hotels in France and this was my favorite so far. Also super close to the Vieux Port.
Ben from reception was very friendly and welcoming and all other staff where nice. The hotel in the Vieux Port area of Marseille right near the entrance to the metro so very easy to get to. comfortable room.
central location in Marseille 3 mn walk to vieux port. Tramway is at the door. It in the heart of the shopping downtown
clean abd neat apartment newly refurbished fully equipped
Very good location in Vieux port, small hotel very helpful front desk. Nice bar with snacks after rugby match late at night. Metro right outside. Buses also
Great hotel, nice views at the restaurant. Great facilities and nice rooms. Also I like the location, although a little further out from the Vieux Port.
