La Mère Poulard, hotel in Servon

Housed in a historical building, this hotel is ideally located in the heart of Mont Saint-Michel. The classic-style rooms overlook the bay, the abbey or the medieval city.

La Mere Poulard is probably the most traditional and antique hotel in the Mont. The room was big, and very clean, with a very nice view (even though my room option did not include it), great bed and nice hot shower as well. The heater in the bedroom and bathroom worked perfectly. All basic amenities were available, including coffee, tea, extra blankets and pillows. There was no water in the room, though we could get it for free in the reception (but you have to ask to the receptionist because they won't offer you). Its cozy, but simple, don't expect any luxury. The rooms location are very good (very close to the Mont's entry, what means a lot considering that in there you have to climb lots of staircases. The Receptionists were very polite and helpful and you can leave the luggage in the reception at any time, including after check-out. The Dinner option at La Mere Poulard (omelet) is very expensive (starting 42 euros) but is part of the experience of visiting the Mont if you want to. I personally really enjoyed my meal, though no omelet will ever be worth this price. However, notice that the if you make a reservation at their restaurant, there aren't plenty of alternative dishes, and all of them are expensive as well. Overall, the stay is a bit expensive for what it offers, compared to other locations in France and Paris, but is in line with other locations inside-Mont. It is absolutely worth it to stay inside if you want to experience the Mont without tons of tourists.

I was so looking forward to staying in one of the quiet cottages in a garden setting as shown in the pictures of my booking. However I was put in a tiny room in the main hotel with a view of a busy road. It was smelly with cooking smells so I had to open the outside doors with the sound of traffic all night. The music from the restaurant downstairs came through the floor. They did turn the volume down when I asked. The advertised pictures are very misleading. There should be an option to guarantee a cottage when booking. I paid an inflated weekend price for a very mediocre room that was noisy. The rest of the hotel is very nice. I was able to store my bike in a shed.

We are not big city people and loved the peacefulness of servon. There is not supermarket in Servon and one small restaurant. However, it is really easy to get to bigger towns where you can shop for groceries, or to visit historical sites and the ocean. Within an hour or less we were at Mt St Michel, St Malo and Granville. The countryside is beautiful and coast is only about 20 minutes. We watched as men gathered oysters from the sea and then ate them fresh at a roadside stand on our way to St. Malo. We ate amazing crepes and seafood in Granville as well.
