The Seagate, hotel in Appledore

The Seagate is a 17th-century hotel situated in the village of Appledore, overlooking the Torridge estuary.

The property is in a fabulous location right on the quay and you can get the ferry across to Instow daily. We were lucky to always find a parking space in the car park. We had a lovely big family room with a large king size bed and wonderful views. The bathroom was big and very well decorated. Nice little touches including biscuits, milk and tap water complimentary with a selection of items to buy too. The decor of the pub was lovely and there was good outside space at the front, side and rear (perfect for sitting in the sun). The food was a little hit and miss but my husband enjoyed the full Devon breakfast that he had every morning. The breakfast options were good with a fresh selection provided each morning in the bar.

Croyde Bay Hotel or Self Catering, hotel in Appledore

Offering an indoor pool, Croyde Bay Resort is located behind the Sand Dunes on Croyde Beach. Free WiFi access is available.

We just came back from a weekend spent there and I must say everything was amazing. We stayed into a cottage and it was very spacious, with 2 showers. It was just opposite their playground and mini golf. Our girl enjoyed that very much and we did, too. Also, the pool was really nice, the water was warm, they had a jacuzzi and 2 saunas. So had plenty of relaxation as well. We would definitely go back.

The Imperial Hotel, hotel in Appledore

The 4-star Imperial Hotel is located in the centre of Barnstaple, overlooking the River Taw.

We stayed with family before a reunion in Ilfracombe. We were confident having stayed at the Imperial in the past that it would meet our needs. It didn't disappoint. We were upgraded and all our rooms were comfortable.

Very attractive, quaint seaside location. Typical characterful former fishing village with narrow lanes and gorgeous views across to Instow. Many pubs and restaurants serving local caught fish dishes. Parking might be a problem during busy periods of the year though.

The main promenade area is nice enough, couple of good restaurants, The Yard for one, but Appledore is a bit run-down in places. A bit further along is Westward Ho, a fairly low-key, functional place. We drove an hour to Woolacombe and ilfracombe instead. We should have stayed over that way.

Lovely little town. Good walks along the foreshore. Great views across the river. Some nice pubs, especially The Champ. We brought our lab puppy and he had a great time too. Plenty to do and see locally. Recommend a trip to Clovelly and to Instow beach.

A lovely Devon coastal village with a well-stocked shop, a great selection of restaurants and pubs and some lovely walks (although some of the hills are quite steep if you are not used to hills). It is a very friendly place to stay too and is handy for the beautiful beaches of the North Devon coast. We thoroughly enjoyed The Seagate (dog-friendly) for great food at a good price and the friendliness of The Beaver Inn (which also does great food but we did not eat there as the number of tables available for people with dogs is limited and it is a very popular pub with visitors and locals alike). We will definitely return!

The setting for this place is gorgeous, right on the waterfront, with a nice spot to sit out the front and indoor space that makes the most of the view. All the staff were incredibly helpful and polite. We stayed in the family room and found its quirky but ample layout rather delightful. We ate breakfast and dinner, both outstanding, with also a very good bar list including cocktails and a good rum selection. Exceptional without being fussy. Appledore is a lovely place for a potter too.

The house was in a great location for visiting places in North Devon. Appledore was about 5 mins away by car, such a lovely place. We loved the space of the house and also the good views of the estuary. The house was comfortable and quiet and parking was easy which was a bonus! All in all, we had a really lovely break!

Location good even though on more of an industrial site type of location, lovely views from balcony's over the sea, great place to base yourself from to explore the area, a little of a walk into Appledore but not a problem for the visit, all in all a nice place to stay for a weekend.

A lovely hotel having a very welcoming atmosphere. General decoration and lighting throughout the hotel, and adornment of tables - both internally and externally, was excellent at all times. The hotel, our bedroom and ensuite was a very comfortable temperature.
