The room, bed, comfort and cleanliness all exceeded our expectations. The hosts were brilliant and very helpful. We were walking the Lady Anne Way over 8 nights and this was the best accommodation we had - a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

All very efficient, quite, clean, accessible and safe for children. Great breakfast, lots of choices for dinner and interesting offer of local products in the yurt at our arrival. I loved the use of sustainable brands for coffee, washing soap, toilet paper :)
The children loved the experience to feed the chickens and the piglets!

Lovely village, good facilities for day to day needs in local shop, hotel restaurants, coffee shop/bakery etc. Good bus service to other interesting local places to visit e.g. Hawes. Parking is obviously under pressure, we were out of main season so had no problem but can imagine that may be different at peak times.
Locals were all pleasant and helpful, it is just a lovely location to spend time - particularly if you are a James Heriot fan.

A relatively small village but in a good location for the places we planed to visit - Hawes, Ravenseat, Leyburn and Middleham.
It has 3 village pubs serving meals, and all in a short walking distance. We had evenings meals in two of them and both were very good.
The small village shop closed at 5:30pm, and the nearest was approx 6 miles away

We stayed at The White Rose which was a good base for walking. There is a bus service from Askrigg if you prefer to leave the car. There aren't many places to eat only one tea shop. There is also a craft shop and a post office/newsagent/shop.The Kings Arms across the road from The White Rose was used as a location for All Creatures Great and Small it serves a good choice of drinks and excellent food.It is near to Hawes and Aysgarth Falls. There is a short walk in Askrigg Whitfield Gill Force just 5 - 10 minutes away by foot.
We enjoyed a walk to Bainbridge then onwards to Semer Water.
There aren't any downsides (well maybe the weather !)

Askrigg is a beautiful, quiet village with some lovely walks for all abilities.
Nearby Mill Gill Force (waterfall) in full flow was a climb but a treat well worth seeing !
For the less nimble there are level walks to Bainbridge along the old railway, or a circular route from Askrigg to the river and down to Worton, returning across fields.

Interesting walks from the property to waterfalls and the river as a figure if eight. From Spring onwards you can probably cross the stepping stones to further enhance the walk. There is a White Rose hotel with excellent, value for money food. There are two other pubs in the village serving food and drink and a local shop and community centre with snooker tables and a beautiful church which you can enter between 8am and 6pm or go gravestone reading for a touch of history.
Ruth’s and Stu’s cottage ‘The Roost’ is welcoming, cosy and you want for nothing! Askrigg and the cottage are the perfect starting point to explore the Dales (and even the Lake District, if you don’t mind the drive)! Inside the cottage, the living room was comfy, the bathroom quite spacious with a bath and a separate Mira shower, which was amazing, and the bed in the main bedroom was also very comfortable! The kitchen is small, but perfectly equipped! They really have thought of everything! We will definitely be back!
Friendly, welcoming and helpful
The small double room perfect for a couple of nights, has everything you need- comfortable, clean, toiletries and tea/coffee - loved the extra touch of daily fresh milk flask and complimentary breakfast croissant and bar for our first morning.
Lovely village location with deli for breakfast /lunch and the local pubs were great for dinner and a drink.
Askrigg is a great location for walks, cycles and visiting local towns Hawes and Leyburn
The room was delightful - spacious, nicely furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We chose the option of a private sitting room for a very modest additional amount, and this provided a large TV, sofa and armchair, table and chairs, and kitchenette with fridge and microwave. The owners were friendly and welcoming, and the breakfasts were superb. Fantastic value. The location is great for touring the dales and there are many good walks from Askrigg.
The suite we stayed in was The Tricky Woo Suite which was decorated beautifully. It was cleaned to a high standard and had all kitchen equipment/towels etc we required. It is situated across from a lovely bakery and pub which does amazing meals. There is also two other pubs that serve food. Everyone was very friendly. Views were stunning! It was lovely we could take our French bulldog too! Communication with owners of property is excellent!
Skeldale house was a perfect little bolt hole. So many great things to do nearby, beautiful village location with a great pub and an excellent bakery just opposite. The property itself is great, like a high quality hotel but self catered. Everything was perfect. The bath tub in Tricky Woo was particularly wonderful.
Superb location, very quiet and rural just as we wanted but a 10 minute car ride to the nearest town, Hawes. The owner was extremely helpful with information beforehand. The cottage was very well equipped with good instructions for everything and there was plenty of local information available.
Lovely home ..bedroom was spacious.....Everything spotlessly clean! Great breakfast! Great hosts! Great location!
Thank you Barry and Ann.
Loved our short walks ( after our long walks! )through the beautiful meadows along the river of Askrigg on an evening.
Staff were welcoming and really friendly. Was in a great location.
Parts of the hotel were a little outdated, however current owners are making upgrades as they have just taken over. They were extremely friendly. Food was great and they couldn’t do enough.
- great location (less than 5 min walk from a number of pubs/shops in Askrigg)
- lots of facilities in the property
- attentive hosts
- very quiet
- great wood burning stove
- excellent access to the Dales
A nice Breakfast basket was provided for us to eat and cook. Location good, handy for Askrigg pubs and shops, with plenty of lovely local walks from the property. A very nice host.
The staff and the hotel were really lovely and we ate at the restaurant and really enjoyed our meal. Loved the games room and the bar as well. Breakfast was also exceptional.
A nice clean, quiet cottage with good facilities in the lovely village of Askrigg. Lots of great walks from the door and some very nice pubs in the village.
