If you want a more peaceful location then Blackwaterfoot is the place last time I was in Whiting Bay, but had visited Blackaterfoot on the bus, its got a few shops, and a golf course with a decent restaurant and walks along the coast can go to the King's Caves where legend says Robert the Bruce hid. The hotel was adequate lovely lounge so somewhere to sit after dinner instead of the usual room !!! You can often see seals. The only place to eat is the hotel, so pre-booking is recommended if you want to go somewhere else.

The views in and around Blackwaterfoot are truly stunning. Shiskine golf and tennis club are a short walk from the village center. The golf course is only 12 holes but I think golfers of all handicaps would enjoy the challenge

Would recommend that you book evening meals prior to arriving as there are limited venues and they get booked up very quickly. We ate at the kinloch hotel, shiskin golf club (Friday and Saturday only)and the lighthouse restaurant in pirmill, about 20 mins away. All very nice. Some lovely walks from blackwaterfoot but the coastal path can be very rocky, would recommend good boots. Easy access to the rest of the island from here and only 15/20 minutes from the ferry terminal

Quiet location and stunning views. We walked to the Blackwaterfoot Lodge each evening for our meal. There were a few small shops in Blackwaterfoot, butchers, harbour shop, grocers as well as three places to eat.

Blackwaterfoot is a beautiful place. The centre of the village has some lovely little shops to buy provisions for a day,s walking. And the Kinloch hotel offers excellent meals in the evening. The coastline is stunning and at places like nearby "corriecavie" you can see seals and many seabirds. Also the tour of nearby Bellevue farm is well worth a visit. For peace and quiet September is a good time to go and the weather can be pretty good too.If you don't have a car with some forward planning it is easily reached by public transport.
