Converted from an 18th-century farmstead, Battlesteads is a stylish country inn with en suite rooms and an 80-seat restaurant. It is set in beautiful countryside close to the Roman Wall

It gave us a restful break away from the busy motorways etc - appreciated the fact that it was dog friendly too.

The George Hotel could be great but it lacks the final polish. It is in a very picturesque position and more should be made of it. The cuisine should be reviewed as at present it is not acceptable. Service is good but the hotel lacks the personal feeling. If it makes the effort and up's it's approach to customer satisfaction it will be a great hotel and a great venue for functions like weddings etc

The trip was planned to view Roman architecture in Chollerford and the surrounding area, should have allocated an extra day. So much to see. Very helpful staff at the English Heritage sites. Great area to visit.

Beautiful surroundings and a good location for visiting loads of local attractions. Sitting in the garden with a glass of wine and soaking up the view was brilliant. The hotel staff were great and the whole place had a busy, buzzy feel. The only downside is the hotel needs redecorating.

It was a good place to stay for travelling around to visit different places, we have never been to Northumberland before but found it very interesting & we were very lucky with the weather which made it very pleasant for outside tours ECT.
The staff were friendly and helpful, but lacking in service skills - I must admit we found this amusing and not a detractor. We understand that it is difficult right now to get the right staff and training. The location is good just outside of Hexham and for our journey to Scotland, this was perfect. The free car park is sufficient and there is easy access to the hotel rooms from the car park. The setting on the riverside is beautiful and this is the best point for this hotel.
This hotel was a good location for a wedding we were attending nearby. The staff were very friendly, the pool was nice and virtually empty so we were able to have a nice relaxing swim. The gym equipment looked pretty good but didn’t use it. Breakfast was good - what you’d expect from a buffet style option. Hot plates being regularly refilled so items were fresh and hot. Beautiful views across a peaceful river and picturesque old bridge
We walked to Chollerford as part of our Hadrian's Wall hike. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and exactly what we needed after a long day of walking. Our room and bathroom were very modern and the views were fantastic. The pool onsite was very helpful for aching legs. We got the half board and thus worked out to be one of the cheaper places we stayed at along the wall, as we did not have to pay additional for dinner.
Room was fine. Staff were very good. The garden next to the river was beautiful. Covid precautions were well observed. We used the George as our base to visit several of the major attractions associated with Hadrian's wall and forts and the location for that was ideal.
It was obvious that the hotel is making efforts to upgrade after being closed for a substantial period due to Covid - we wish them well!
We stayed here for 1 night whilst completing the Hadrians Wall walk so the swimming pool was a welcome extra. The rooms were good despite being a little tired. The view from room overelooking the gardens and the river were lovely.
The location was great and there is a beautiful garden available at the hotel. The staff were all very friendly and the restaurant was really good - very happy with the breakfast and dinner both.
The hotel is in a lovely setting, the staff are very friendly and the bedrooms and public rooms are well appointed. The staff even surprised me with a specially decorated table for my birthday!
Beautiful position on the banks of the North Tyne River. Lovely gardens and ample parking. The hotel's greatest asset was the staff, especially the very helpful gentleman on reception.
Nice stay however barking dogs in hotel rooms from 5.45 in the morning is not appreciated suggest have customers with dogs in half of hotel other that don’t won’t be woken
We liked the premises however dogs were welcome but all over the hotel barking from 05.45 Saturday morning not on.
Ideal location staff shortages
Would stay again
